Thought his contract was up in the summer? Which means we are paying for a player who won't be available to us until his contract runs out. I might have my players mixed up. But if correct how the fuck can that seem sensible to folk? Maybe its sensible because the manager is planning for the future not just the present. Maybecpaying a fee for someone now who will bring value to our squad long term is worth it rather than join probably a dozen other clubs scrambling for him in the summer. Maybe we've avoided the criticism of him joining someone else on a free in the summer and moans of why didnt coates get his wedge out earlier. If he has signed for us. Well done everyone at stoke for making sure we backed the manager and got the man he wanted.

Got a good feeling about this signing. Now a left back and striker we’re in business

He’s a free agent in the summer? but clubs have bid in Jan, he won't be available in the summer the club can't win with some fans can they, it's not your money they're spending I just wanted to know why we are paying a fee for a player who’s out of contract in June and isn’t going to play for us until next season anyway. It’s been clarified that it’s a compensation fee so fair enough.

Sounds like a sensible deal to loan him back, realistically he's not going to make the difference for us this season, and as others have suggested - is he really going to break into the team at Bournemouth and cement a first team place? in terms of time on the pitch you'd assume he'd be better off either here or QPR but Bournemouth can surely offer a bigger wage than we can. I hope we sign him, but I'd prefer Pickering this window as we need a LB more than we need another winger. Maybe we are signing Pickering too

If part of the deal was agreeing to the loan back then fine. He'll be nowhere near fit for quite a while. I assume we have some clause which protects us if he gets injured playing for Charlton or his hamstring explodes again? Good planning by us and maybe the way the deal has been structured it doesn't affect our FFP restrictions this season.

Its good to me that we are thinking future, short term signings have been a disaster for this club.

By the way..... these deals are seemingly going through alot smoother than in previous years. Is that down to the effort of Alex Aldridge?

Comes across as a smart move in terms of FFP I think. Secure his services now whilst injured, then loan him back which negates any FFP breaches in the hope of getting some of the bigger earners off our books in this and the next window.

I get that. Shaqs deal included a release clause to get him here but it wasn't exactly sensible. Sensible would be having him available in the last 6 to 8 weeks for real push if we were in any kind of position. Didn't realise his age, but can see it won't effect us too much financially now. Good signing, the new recruitment seems on the ball.

O’Neill must have a raging hard on for him, he went in for him in the summer and got knocked back.think with rangers and Celtic getting offers in forced out hand a bit.. isn’t O’Neil shit hot with all the financial stuff?? Aren’t sure if the wage caps come into play for new contracts next season??? Where we pay no more than £18m wages but can top that up with bonuses e.g. promotion /win bonuses!!! Clear as mud 😂. Yeah this Aldridge guy looks like he can certainly pick a decent player. Thank god 👏

I think his role is to analyse and suggest new players. I think his main role is joining the dots, having conversations with agents to get the wheels turning. Tbf with this and the Matondo deal it seems to have gone through rather smoothly.

As I said we are miles off the play offs 6 weeks ago and look at how that’s turned out We are not miles off the play offs Two points, subjective as to whether that's 'miles off' Benji says it is, everyone else says it isn't. Benji is like the ships captain off Blackadder

We simply have to add an impact striker this window. Gregory even if he comes back will be a good way off full fitness and Fletcher can't be relied on to last the whole second half of the season. Rabbi may well inject some pace and skill, but we need a mobile presence up top.

Can’t imagine we’re thrilled about the loan back but not much we can do if that is the sweetener needed to get the deal through ahead of a Celtic/Rangers pre-contract. Sounds like a good long term signing either way.

Maybe we are following the Chelsea business plan. Buy young players and loan them out until we need them, hoping we can get a good loan fee. Maybe we are buying this guy and getting a technical loan fee back from Charlton! Or maybe we buy him now and then sell him to the new Scottish Champions in the Summer for a huge profit.

Sounds like a good long term signing either way. Gives him time to recover from injury, and then get match fit, while they pay his wages, don't think it's a drama at all.
