After reading into it a bit more are we the club that has bought the player and loaned him back. I guess if it is us he is one for next season not this as he is coming back from injury and we have enough players we are trying to get back up to speed.

Don't see much reason to sign him then if he won't play any part. Stupid idea!

londonnewsonline.co.uk/alfie-doughty-will-be-loaned-back-to-charlton-athletic-with-stoke-bournemouth-and-qpr-all-agreeing-to-terms/“Part of the deal is that Alfie will be coming back on loan,” said Addicks manager Lee Bowyer. “Alfie himself has said he has started the season with us and he’d like to finish it. He wants to be part of trying to help us finish as high as possible, which is good. “I imagine he will get fit and then whichever club gets him will send him back on loan to us until the end of the season. Then he’ll go back to wherever he goes. “Whenever he comes back training he will have been out a while. He has got to try and get up to match speed. If we have him for the last couple of months then that will be a bonus but with these injuries you have to be careful, because things can happen between now and then. It is difficult to predict. “The good thing is he wants to come back and help for the rest of the season. All the clubs have agreed to that. It is part of the deal.”

Might not be a bad idea.
Could take him a while to get back up to speed given his injury.
Get him fit and firing for next season.
Still think he’ll end up at Bournemouth mind.

Don't see much reason to sign him then if he won't play any part. Stupid idea! Seems logical to me. We want a fast left sided forward. Doughty is injured and unlikely to contribute much until March but is a very promising young player. We have signed Matondo for this season and then would have Doughty next season. Well organised planning of the type we have been sadly lacking

Sounds like a sensible deal to loan him back, realistically he's not going to make the difference for us this season, and as others have suggested - is he really going to break into the team at Bournemouth and cement a first team place? in terms of time on the pitch you'd assume he'd be better off either here or QPR but Bournemouth can surely offer a bigger wage than we can.
I hope we sign him, but I'd prefer Pickering this window as we need a LB more than we need another winger.

Sensible decision as its going to be weeks before he's ready to play and then a few weeks to get back up to speed.
I'd rather him get fully fit there and play a few games where he's comfortable and knows the system so he can get back to the player he was more quickly.

Reckon it’s Bournemouth..they won’t need him this season and he will be excited for the Premier League next season.

It was obvious he was joining when you've got MON talking about him so publicly.

McClean replacement moving forward maybe?. Still was hoping for options this window to make an impact at the top end of the pitch?. Much prefer these type of signings, than splashing cash on mercenaries.

Thought his contract was up in the summer?
Which means we are paying for a player who won't be available to us until his contract runs out.
I might have my players mixed up.
But if correct how the fuck can that seem sensible to folk?

No mention in that report of him staying at Charlton until the end of the season?

No mention in that report of him staying at Charlton until the end of the season? If you look further up the thread it says that Bowyer says it’s part of the deal that he’s loaned back to them.

Because we'd not be able to sign him else. He’s a free agent in the summer? Only to clubs not in England.

Because we'd not be able to sign him else. He’s a free agent in the summer? He's under 23 though, isn't he? So they'd still be entitled to compensation. Celtic or Rangers could get him for that low £350-400k figure - but English teams would probably have to pay more.

Because we'd not be able to sign him else. But it's far from sensible Free transfers aren't actually free besides he is under 24 so we'd have to pay compo anyway and he'd be looking for a bigger signing on fee and wages plus no transfer fee and the world by then hopefully back to normal would increase the competition for him.

Because we'd not be able to sign him else. He’s a free agent in the summer? but clubs have bid in Jan, he won't be available in the summer the club can't win with some fans can they, it's not your money they're spending

Because we'd not be able to sign him else. But it's far from sensible Its sensible, if its the only we can get him. It makes perfect sense. Any club who signs him now would have to pay a fee, so the free at the end of contract element is totally irrelevant as it would never happen anyway.
