Yes - that’s the man I was thinking off: Ryno Thanks for the correction. He was a bloody good bowler. That’s 3 now for extra tuition😉 Yes indeed. I’ve already booked in for extra tuition.

Hmmm starting to get a little concerning. Could do with another wicket ASAP!

I think it's safe to say Burns will be coming in for Sibley in India.......

I think it's safe to say Burns will be coming in for Sibley in India....... Sibley looks like he has the right attitude for an opener but not the technique - leastways in the subcontinent. Crawley, on the other hand, looks like he has the right technique but not the attitude - again thinking about playing in Asia. Maybe Burns might improve things, but he had a wretched summer and his technique also doesn’t inspire much confidence. Lots of pressure on the Yorkies. Edit - well that went well... one Yorkie ran the other one out, then nearly ran himself out next ball.

Embarrassing this, zero composure. Don't they know we've got another day of cricket? Brain dead stuff.

We’ve been here before with England - a collective brainstorm.
Calm down boys.

Think we'll just fall over the line on this one, all as a result of not putting the game to bed with our first innings, that's the lesson to learn, you need bigger scores than 400 in Asia.

But... isn’t this what makes test cricket such a brilliant sport.
Sri Lanka down and out, but have fought their way back into the game. England on easy street now feeling the pressure.

Well, that was exciting!
We are still in the box seat and should win it from here but should doesn’t, of course, mean will.
Of course, a win in the first test of a series is something we’ve struggled with in recent times. Not to be sniffed at if it happens.
Lots to take from today...
Good... England’s spinners, Buttler’s keeping including taking a stumping (his first ever in test cricket which is astonishing), Sri Lanka showing great resilience in their batting and quality in their spinners particularly the leftie.
Not so good... England’s openers specifically and approach to batting generally - when will we learn to play the situation. Rotating the strike was not needed at the start of our second innings particularly if there was any risk
Very good... test cricket. What a brilliant game.

Sure was. RWB’s memory is playing slight tricks. We did post 500+, actually declaring after big knocks from Collingwood and Pietersen, then bowled Australia out also for 500+ gaining a first innings lead of 40 give or take. The problem was our second innings when we got skittles for just over 100. Warne did bowl well, but only took 4 wickets. It was a catastrophic, crushing defeat. Yep just looked up the scorecard 😂 That was a horrifying series. Such a build up. I'll never forgive the scandalous selection of Giles over Monty who went on to take a 5 for in the next test at Perth. Warne and McGrath just got better in their late thirties and I seem to remember Stuart Clark having one of the most bizarre careers ever. Played about 6 series, took a shed load of wickets and then retired! What a series I picked for my first overseas tour, went to the warm up games, all tests except Adelaide couldn't get tickets, hotels were crazy expensive and I didn't like churches that much..... Losing Trescothick after sydney warm up game was a blow they never really recovered from, not picking Monty was criminal as was picking Jones over Read, probably the unluckiest cricketer of my memory they picked him for the last test and he took 10 catches. Still had a cracking time for 10+ weeks mind

Well done England.
An excellent victory.
The only question, to my mind, ahead of the next test at the same venue Friday is of selection.
It probably makes sense not to pick Wood for two successive tests with such little time between them regardless of any circumstances but even more so in this situation. 3 seam bowlers proved to be one too many as suggested at the start of this test.
So the question is who should replace Wood - three options... a spinner, another seamer or a batsman.
The first would make most sense - either Mo if fit or one of the reserves if not, the second would be a nonsense the third would be reasonable noting the length of the tail and the need to score big runs in the first innings (maybe bring in Pope to augment the close catching capability).
The only other thing might be to bring in Anderson for Broad. We won’t see both in the same team over these winter tests so getting them used to rotating as the lead quick / #11 batting spot would be sensible.

I think Wood will be replaced by an extra batsman. It would have been ideal to bring Moeen back in for his bowling but pretty sure he’s been ruled out for the rest of the series. Can’t see England bringing in any of the reserve spinners. Pope isn’t in the squad so it can only be Foakes. I imagine Anderson definitely comes in for Broad.

I said when the squad was selected there were far too many quick bowlers... Anderson, Broad, Curran, Stone, Woakes and Wood and just 3 spinners. I thought initially only in terms of those (too few) spinners, but looking again we are also light in specialist batsmen... Bairstow, Crawley, Lawrence, Root and Sibley. That initial squad selection looks ever more strange.

Great win... Should be another away series victory.
Feel a bit for Sri Lanka. Hope they don't end up becoming the next West Indies and end up having two decades of struggle.
I guess it was always going to be a massive blow losing the likes of Jayawardena, Sangakkara, Jayasuriya, Dilshan, Murali... It was tragic they never won a World Cup with that side in 2011 because they may never have a team that comes close to that again.
Hopefully they can find their feet and rebuild. When I was out there watching the series in 2018, the SL supporters were incredibly downbeat about everything and it was hard to watch. They were dreadful.

That initial squad selection looks ever more strange. Yes agree with that. There are some playing Big Bash so guess that makes them unavailable for selection, Livingstone, Malan, Roy and Vince. Stokes being rested of course and Pope rehabilitating. We aren’t exactly stacked with decent spinners so that’s another problem. On reflection from the last match, the positives were an impressive debut from Lawrence, a steady return for Bairstow and the double hundred for Root. Buttler’s glove work wasn’t too shabby either. Concerns would be we are still struggling for openers. Sibley hasn’t convinced me he’s the answer, neither has Burns and I’d like to see Crawley back at three. The spinners were a little disappointing but seemed to get some rhythm towards the back end of their innings, maybe just rustiness? Can’t really gauge the quicks over there, they just need to hold an end up really which Wood, in the main, failed to do.

Just watching the Oz v India highlights... Stadium really empty. What's the capacity they were allowed for this, anyone know? Maybe it's just because it's a Monday!

Unbelievable finish in Australia!
India need 55 runs. Australia need 5 wickets. 11 overs left on day 5. Potential bad light/rain on its way.
Test cricket is fantastic!

Bloody hell... they’ve only gone and done it.
What a great thing to watch over breakfast.
Mind you, some serious coronavirus social distancing violations going on after that last ball went for 4. I guess we’ll let them off just this once.
