I spoke to funeral director (Salt, Newcastle) If someone is close to the family they can get a log in for the online stream. If someone posts that on here, as many people as poss would be able to view/participate?

It isn't Rigger AKA the legend that is Mick Wright on the photo, but does look a little like he did back in the 70's. Agreed. I was at school with him and he would have been only 16 at the time. That chap looks older. Very nice bloke, altho at school the nickname was Riggot. Maybe he drank at the Rigger (formerly the Bandstand) opposite Tiffany's, and the name evolved...!

Didn't know Tony personally but one memory sticks in my mind. Must have been early/mid seventies. I was sat with a couple of mates in the seats in the old Park Lane End at Spurs keeping ourselves quiet! When a shout of GREEEEEEEEENHOFF went out and there was Tony on the terracing below in the middle of a very large empty circle! Also who could forget his antics on that great night in Amsterdam? Ha Ha ..... RIP Stokie If that was the game when we won 2-0 I remember it well. I also recall that when we got off the coaches Tony kicked open the door of The Cockerel and shouted ‘The Stokie boys are in town’. Happy Days! R.I.P.

Excellent thanks! I went there from time to time, partly because it was just a few minutes' walk from my front door. Used to have a good video juke-box. *Next time you speak to him, please pass on regards from Max. ( * Note for young people. A video juke-box was cutting edge technology in the early 80s. First one I saw/heard was in the Wheatsheaf in Stoke town centre. I thought I had been kidnapped by aliens and transported to the future. Always associated in my mind with Dexy's "Come on Eileen").

RIP Tony
Well known and loved by all Stokies (and probably by supporters from other clubs if you know what I mean),
I have a question, did Tony ever ride a motorbike? I have vivid memories of an away match at Norwich in the seventies, we all congregated outside this pub close to the ground, All of a sudden we heard the sound of a motorbike getting closer, to the roar of the stokies present this guy obviously well known appeared in view, yes he had ridden all the way from Stoke to Norwich on a motorbike, I could be wrong but in my head I have Tony Gray pictured on this bike, can anyone on here confirm please.

Not like today, when it's 10 a penny...! If he cannot recall, I can message you. How about a post-match pint in the Rigger when the dust settles - let's say before 2025? And thanks!

yes LongtonStokie Tony had a BSA C15 250cc. in those days he wore a fringed leather jacket "donated" by a Burnley fan at Turf Moor. He was at that time a "Rocker" so was Anne.

On a slightly separate, but related, theme... Another school-friend of mine, at an away game in the 70s (Wolves 74-75 I think) was "persuaded" on the trail back to the station, by Mickey Moonshine Hughes to swap his smart new leather jacket for his (Mickey's) ancient sheepskin. On the plus side, my school-friend dined out on the tale for years afterwards.

Fun days

Just watched the service. Must say the "Go on Stoke" chanting at the end of the "We'll be with you" version was just right.

Fun days Not sure it was the same game, but a bunch of us went on the Special to Sheff Utd in the 74-75 season. Of course we had a fantastic team back then and so did they. All of us would have run a mile at the first sniff of naughtiness, but one of the faces mentioned on this link spotted us on the train and wandered over for a chat. Let's call him Tarquin. Us: "Are you going in their end, Tarquin"? Tarquin: "Hmmm....might pop in". At about 3.05 there was a disturbance in the home end, and sure enough a band of about 30 renegades was escorted round the perimeter to the away end - including Tarquin.

Absolute Golden era for away games, I remember specials to many places including the one spoken of above. These characters were a special part of those trips and I for one am very grateful for their timely arrival at some locations!
