I appreciate I'm in a minority but I think Souttar's form has dipped, not alarmingly, but significantly, since he returned to the team following isolation period. He's still playing OK but he set such high standards for himself initially and I don't think he's quite in the form he was earlier in the season. He's a bit less composed, his distribution has gone a bit AWOL and he's appeared a little sloppy in aspects of his defending that weren't visible at all before. He's a young lad. Dips are in form are to be expected. Hopefully this little break in the hectic schedule will enable him to recover a little, mentally if not physically. Tend to agree - he's obviously still learning but there are a few things he needs to work on - a couple of times now he's completely missed crosses coming in at his feet and, with the size of him, he needs to be more of a threat up front. He's done really well though considering how he'd been written off by some.

Think inconsistency among the younger players is always something that managers have to take into account. He is still at a good level, and if he doesn't dip any lower, then I think the manager will accept this and hope his form will jump up to his previous levels. As you say the break will hopefully be of benefit.

It's a dip in form v his previous very high standards where he was exceptionally good.

The defence set up has been changed several times so quite a bit of adjustment as different players and formations have been utilised
We should be highlighting the positive impact that he has made, mistakes happen, some are more costly than others
He's only 22, this is his first season as a regular starter in the Championship

After 16 games for us thats a reasonable valuation not that I would have any interest in selling him for that fee but at a similar age and experience and with arguably a better pedigree Ryan cost £1m, the challenge for Stoke will be to keep Harry for that long or at least until any transfer fee makes a decent dent in our ffp problems. Are you talking about the same Ryan that signed over 10 years ago when players used to be sold for peanuts and a bag of salt and vinegar crisps? Better to compare with someone like Rodon that just went to Spurs from Swansea. He went for £12m i think.. Rodon had played 50 odd championship games plus a handful of caps for Wales so not at the same stage in his career, the little I have seen of Rodon, Souttar looks better on the ball and if he starts to add some goals I see no reason in another season or so we shouldn't be looking at a similar fee I don't see a current valuation of £2m as being massively wrong but equally we have no interest in currently selling him.

Almost every issue on Saturday came from the wide areas or central midfield.

Souttar is an intelligent player and has a delightful body shimmy that buys him time and allows him to pass it out wide or in front. He's had to adapt to playing in a back three and flat back four, but I'd hope next season will see him alongside Collins with a new right back next to him and perhaps Pickering on the left hand side. Being so tall and leggy he needs to avoid being exposed to too much space without Collins or a full back to cover, but in the air and as a relatively calm figure in defence he's a breath of fresh air. A pity he's not two inches shorter

Can't be arsed to read the thread but he's a very good defender and is usually very good at distributing the ball.
He's young so will make mistakes, that's par for the course.
But he's got all the ability to go to the top.

Get it done, especially for that sell-on clause.

Good to hear MON is planning to build a promotion-chasing defence around Collins and Souttar and that anybody who comes asking about either needs to splash a very big wod of cash (as it should be).

If he can be a bit more ruthless in the oppositions area when we're taking corners or free-kicks he'd be the full package!!! 🤔
For a bloke his size, you'd think he'd have two or three goals to his name by now!!!

Agreed, he doesn't seem to attack the ball enough from set pieces. He needs to work on that.

Great work by the club and every bit as important as new transfer dealings which by their nature get much more recognition. (never knew if they had got the right brother at the time of the initial move but subsequent development has clearly shown that the scouts knew what they were doing).

Probably helped by shifting some deadwood out on loan to release some funds.

So that's Bursik and Sorensen till 2023, Doughty, Collins and Campbell till 2024 and Souttar till 2025. Lets get Powell extended till 2024 and all of a sudden we've got the spine of the team sorted for the 2022/23 season and beyond when we have 20 players out of contract......
