Slow day on the cake today so I’m looking for some inspiration. My daughter is 14 going on 30 and I really struggle for days out. I don’t see her that often, probably every two or three weeks and would like to go somewhere we can both enjoy. She’s a typical modern day teen in that she spends most of her time on social media and doesn’t get interested in anything which is really frustrating. Any advice welcome, within say an hours drive. Cheers

Manley Mere lake in Cheshire, some water based activities, near Frodsham, my 13yo has been there
Also Delamere Forest near Northwich, lovely forest and has tree climbing centre and segway hire. Not been to this one but done ta similar forestry England place in Worcs and was great

Chill Factor in Manchester is always an underrated 'attraction'
Easy to get to, option of food or a quick flit over to the Trafford Centre and is an active day out away from screens.
Also acquires a skill and opens up a different type of holiday in the future.
*This will be a great thread BTW.

Good tip, I drove past this in Feb and thought should take kids there and then events conspired to make me completely forget it. We just did a couple of days at Thorpe Park (hotel on site is NOT worth staying at btw) but clearly more than an hour. Ideal for 9 and 13yo. But all I’ll say for Merlin that run it is they may say they re limiting tickets sold for virus reasons , but in practice are they hell

One of those places I’ve been past loads of times, made a mental note, then forgotten🤦🏻♂️ Defo worth a look. Went the indoor Sky dive place next door a few years back which was good but a bit pricey

Just cake her in slap (and tell her to put some taller shoes on if required) and go the pub all day.
That's what I used to do until those killjoys at social services got involved.

Tried that but she doesn’t look old enough to get served so ends up carrying me home via the kebab house. She doesn’t appreciate doing a fireman’s carry on a 40 year old 16 stone badger. And neither does her mother!

Shitty old day though I heard an interesting tale about that place a few months back. It used to be called Dearnford? and one of the neighbours was continuously complaining and he eventually went as far as taking a patent out on the name, hence they've called it Alderford now.

Not super cheap but for something different that you'll always remember, is an Indian canoe trip down the river Severn from Bridgenorth to Arley. 10 miles may sound a bit daunting but you're paddling downstream so it's very little effort and safe as houses. You go out on your own boat in a group, with a leader to follow but you can pretty much do your own thing as long as you stay in eye contact. There's a pub stop of about an hour on the way down and what I think makes this activity so special is that you have the option to return to Bridegnorth by Steam train, quite an experience if you've not done the Severn Valley Railway before. Canoe UK

Not been to this one but done ta similar forestry England place in Worcs and was great (This is for Badge and Tel + respective daughters ) How much does she know about the history of the area re. the actual Potteries, Badge? You don't need to go far for a trip to Middleport Pottery and when you do, you should definitely, definitely do a factory tour, which you would have to book in advance. I did this about three or four years ago, and the whole thing was a delight. With all the trials and tribulations of the last 6 months they might not have resumed factory tours yet, so if they're still on hold bear it in mind for the future. An added bonus is that their café also does an excellent BLT. There's also World of Wedgwood at Barlaston - I've never visited it, but it will be on a much bigger scale and you have their wonderful museum to take in if you want to.

Cheers Murph I can categorically say that my daughter has zero interest in these things. We have been to Wedgwood and The potteries museum and while she “didn’t mind it” she’d rather do something more adrenaline rushing I think. Had she spent more time within my set she would be far more educated, as it is she’s stuck with her mother at the other end of the city😏.

This is probably more suited to younger children, but when I was still a Chief Gruppenführer in the Cubs I hired a coach and took them for a day out at Chester Zoo - it was the best day out ever!

Blackpool Zoo is outstanding these days. Taken my 4 year old twice in the last year witg a 3rd trip planned for the illuminations. Compact, bonus dinosaur section, easy to access and loads of animals (by which I mean everything you could want besides a Rhino)

I believe you can still lock them in the shed?? Can’t do that I’d have to empty it first and there’s nothing that irritates me more than going to the shed to “find” something

My kids went there just a couple of weeks ago (when it was boiling hot) and absolutely loved it.
They had one of those inflatable obtacle courses on the lake, plus it seemed to be a place that loads of other kids their ages hang out too. Looked pretty damn good to be fair
