We’ve had a left back situation since as long as I can remember. Peters was as close as we’ve come to sorting it, but even then he wasn’t ideal. It probably comes down to the fact that flexible LBs who are great defenders and super fast and accurate wingers who overlap with ease are as a rare as hen’s teeth. The few really decent ones who are relatively immune to criticism in one of those two key areas of the role, are snapped up by the top clubs. Clubs like Stoke, whether EPL or Championship, will always struggle to get a really good LB.

No! We should also have a back up left back in case Fox breaks his leg in the first game of the season, or laater for that matter. Or if Fox turns out to be a Ward...

Tymon can reproduce that any time you want, but you're forgetting one thing: he didn't have to do any defending in that game, which might just give some a distorted view of just how good he is - or not, as it were.

If he makes it in the championship it won't be as a left back.

Dickinson Pieters Tymon That Greek fella who was on loan Crazy really. Griffin started out at left-back (1996-98) then mostly played right back when he came back. I'd still rate him as the best young player we've seen come through the youth system in the last 25 years. I was always happy with Higginbotham at left-back. Very similar to Lee Sandford in the way he could cover inside and give us a bit of extra height.

Didn’t really have the legs for Premier League though.
