If you go into admin is an automatic deduction. No there can be extenuating circumstances to avoid a points deduction. But surely not here where a person buys the Company and within a few weeks or so, apparently, refuses to put money in to keep things going and applies for administration. Same thing happened at Pompey didn't it ?

But surely not here where a person buys the Company and within a few weeks or so, apparently, refuses to put money in to keep things going and applies for administration. The takeover was approved on the promise monies were paid from what I read in the Wigan site and they weren't as Wigan have avoided admin previously on the basis of this takeover/investment deal going through. Seems they've been on the brink for months “There are two objectives - firstly to make sure we get to the end of the season, otherwise the club is finished, then to find a buyer,” he said. Krasner said he was “optimistic” the situation would be resolved and said the coronavirus pandemic had had a “significant impact on the recent fortunes of the club”, but Stanley hinted at other problems. “I don’t think it’s played a massive part in terms of the way the club’s been run because the club’s been run very well,” he said. “The funding that was due to come in from the owners didn’t come in. I’ve had no contact with the owners and I don’t know why the funding didn’t come in. It might be coronavirus related, I just don’t know.”

The EFL have made such a pigs ear of the investigation into the new owners, allowing them to buy the club, that it wouldn't surprise me if they found 'Extenuating circumstances' to allow them not to deduct the penalty points.

They haven't though. They bought the club with a deadline of a 6 million pound investment.

Well there’s the appeal route. So it’s not a foregone conclusion They’ll bring C19 into it to garner empathy/sympathy and watch this space, can’t see them getting the deduction

As soon as owners start having to secure their personal wealth against clubs this problem goes away. They have to prove the money is there. Same as say buying a house. Is the new investors that have screwed them over I agree, that should be a step that is done. It’s one thing to see that the funds exist in a bank account that’s been acquired through a loan backed against the club. It’s another to see that the individual has actual wealth. Take Bury for example, I’m sure their fans would be happier knowing that the idiot that ruined them had lost his home and other assets after his gamble. I’m bored of people with money leaving HMRC out of pocket. I can take players earning millions, I’m ok with high ticket prices but millionaire businesspeople walking away from large gambles while they live the high life taking funding from our public services is bang wrong.

For sure. Can criticise player's huge salaries but they pay enormous taxes as well...well most do At least there are stricter steps in place. Never forget Sam Hammam signing players at Cardiff on huge salaries and gambling on promotion and the Langston loan and then being bailed out to pay their salaries. Wasn't so long ago some Birmingham fans were boasting on line about being the new Man City when Carson Yeung came in.

I don't think the EFL will deduct them points out of sheer embarrassment. Actually think it could work the other way. Not deducting the points is an admission of their own incompetence and opens up a massive can of worms for them.

System does seem massively flawed.
EFL passes fair and proper persons test, without probably conducting a wholesome fair and proper persons test only to then deduct Wigan points when the inevitable happens.
It’s truly bonkers.

I don't see this points deduction happening in a million years. It has to Gods. There are a lot of teams in this league that will be rightly furious that A. The EFL did not proceed with their own official rules B. The fact the administration could’ve saved them (us included) Not deducting the points would be the EFL admitting they are a massive bunch of idiots. Does it suck for Wigan? Sure. Otherwise we may as well just say the rules are there to be broken.

First of all good luck to Wigan and I hope they don’t fold. It should be good news personally for stoke but I’m worried it gives all the bottom teams a shot in the arm and it will improve their desire match day. Little worrying as our players seem to be on a social distancing beach already

Wasn't it Leeds and Leicester who pretty much took the piss with administration though and used it more as a means of just getting rid of debt rather because it was entirely necessary? I imagine that more than anything would stand out as a reason to keep the points deduction in place because otherwise it could be a free for all using administration to get debts down. If push came to shove and the owner cited coronavirus as a convenient excuse as to why they weren't able to provide the funding then it'd be for everyone.

If Stoke stayed up at the expense of Wigan with a points deduction and our players were smug about it like it was some sort of achievement I think I'd be sick in my mouth a bit.
