I’m no fan of Starmer but I would trust anything Claudia Webbe says with a pinch of salt as she has an axe to grind having been expelled from the Labour party. “She was suspended from the party whip in September 2020 after being charged with harassment of a woman who was having an affair with Webbe's then-partner.[2] Webbe was later expelled from the Labour Party on 3 November 2021 after being convicted in October 2021. Her appeal was partially dismissed on 26 May 2022, though her sentence was reduced to eighty hours of community service, and compensation to the victim reduced from £1,000 to £50.[3] As Webbe's reduced sentence was not custodial, it did not trigger a constituency recall petition under the Recall of MPs Act 2015.”

The decision has ignited a row within government over Ms Gray, whose report while a senior civil servant into parties in Downing Street during the pandemic contributed to the downfall of Boris Johnson.
She then went on to work as a Labour Party adviser. Her Conservative predecessor Liam, now Lord, Booth Smith, who did the job under Rishi Sunak, was paid at the upper end of the highest pay band for special advisers, between £140,000 and £145,000 a year, external. The boost in Ms Gray’s pay comes after the prime minister signed off a rebanding of the salaries for special advisers shortly after taking office. The government says the rebanding was done by officials, not by Ms Gray herself, and her salary is not at the top of the new highest band for special advisers. News of Ms Gray’s pay rise, briefed to the BBC by a number of Whitehall sources, is the latest in a line of leaks about her which paint a picture of fractious relationships at the very top of government, just months into Labour’s tenure. “It speaks to the dysfunctional way No10 is being run - no political judgement, an increasingly grand Sue who considers herself to be the Deputy Prime Minister, hence the salary and no other voice for the Prime Minister to hear as everything gets run through Sue,” one insider told the BBC. Labour, quickly trying to out tory the tories Sue Gray made no contribution to Johnson's downfall.... he managed to do that all by himself In 2021 when the Express tried to do a hatchet job on Gray (prior to her releasing her Report on No 10 Covid Party's) using her salary as part of its weaponry, had this to say However, her (Sue Gray) previous role as the Department of Finance Permanent Secretary in Northern Ireland was advertised with a salary of between £160,563 and £188,272 when she left the post in 2021.www.express.co.uk/news/politics/1556202/sue-gray-salary-how-much-evgI'm not aware of many people who take take on a more responsible Employment Position and expect to be paid less than they were paid 3 years previously in a less Senior position In any case there are 4 Salary Bands for Special Advisors who are appointed Temporary Civil Servants and her salary falls within the top Band Total non story To some she’s the Labour equivalent of Cummins. Sorry, where is the corruption? That’s just saying someone made a political donation. That isn’t evidence of corruption.

Johnson’s entire reason for being PM was Brexit, something Cummings orchestrated. Johnson’s only policy was Cummings’. Johnson owed his entire reason for being PM to Cummings. The same certainly cannot be said of Gray and Starmer. Gray did not orchestrate settling pay disputes, clamping down on rioters, clamping down on rogue landlords, creating a state owned green energy company, means testing winter fuel allowance, whatever is in the budget. Show me evidence that she spent the last few years of her career before getting her current job orchestrating at least some of the above and predict what else is to come based on what she was doing then. If you can do that, then she is comparative to Cummings.

Receiving a political donation isn’t cronyism or corruption though. It is how political parties have always been run. I am no fan of the system as you know. But a donation isn’t the same as corruption. The alternative is the tax payer paying all costs of a political party. That means us funding Britain First as much as any other party. That system is fraught with problems. How do you make it fair? What’s stopping anyone setting up their own party to get free money from the tax payer?

Has he given Arsenal or Taylor Swift a favour in return? If not, it is irrelevant. At Christmas and on birthdays, do you hand every gift back because it is cronyism or corruption and lacks integrity? Should the King return all gifts presented to him? Starmer needs to be giving the people making donations or giving him free stuff something in return for it to be dodgy. If he is doing that they are buying influence and that is absolutely wrong. Like covid fast track lanes for PPE suppliers all linked to the tory ministers. MPs with second jobs are a much bigger problem. Because that is not something they need to be transparent about in the same way as receiving a gift or a political donation.

Some very stupid political decisions by Starmer and Labour. If you are asking for sacrifices from the public, make sure you are running a tight ship at your end. Early days obviously but this sort of thing eventually sticks in the mind with the public and the huge majority is built on very flimsy foundations.

Early days obviously but this sort of thing eventually sticks in the mind with the public and the huge majority is built on very flimsy foundations. This is the key point. He hasn’t broken any rules by accepting gifts if he is declaring them properly, or by whoever it was who decided to give people in Sue Gray’s band a pay rise. But it looks bad when you are stopping a pensioner on £15k from getting winter fuel allowance. Labour are terrible at PR.

He’s received 2.5 times more gifts and freebies than ANY other MP since 2019.
For those defending him saying he’s done nothing wrong you’re absolutely right, and as long as hand on heart you’d say the same about Boris Johnson then there’s nothing to see here….

He was invited to appear on the Pyramid stage by the Eavis family, an appearance for which he didn't charge a fee and he was given two guest list passes for his family to watch him. He even declared the value of those two guest list passes.

Sue Gray, 'I earn more than the PM'. As a point of information- There are 3,000 civil servants earning more than £100,000 pa, and Over 100,000 earning over £50,000 pa. So civil servants earning more than MPs or Ministers is quite normal.
