For 6 months I've been posting about the purge of the left in labour by starmer. What do Labours voters think of the last couple of days? essexstokey @wannabe oggy Not a trick question or passive aggression. Genuinely interested to get your views.
You are either a pragmatist, an idealist or an abstentionist I'm the former, if anyone is the middle option they will be eternally disappointed and if the latter they have forfeited the right to comment The options presented are poor as only Starmer or Sunak will be the next PM I don't select the issues people will make their choice on, that's the Great British Public. The Top Four issues are: NHS, Cost of Living, Managing the Economy, and Immigration Hands down Labour have the better policies on those issues, in my opinion. Public Services, Crime & Law and Order, Social Care, Housing and Poverty/Inequality come next. It's the mood of the Country right now and Politicians if they want to be elected react to that, its the Overton Window People know the last 14 years have been a Shit Show from Austerity to Brexit to Covid to Ukraine and now Gaza. People are fearful for their families future and rightly so. Starmer is not liked but has the advantage of not being Sunak. People can entertain Social and Humanitarian issues Nationally and Internationally when they feel more secure, its not that they don't have empathy its simply they have more immediate issues Green Issues hardly get a mention and Brexit is the word that barely speaks its name. Gaza unless people are uninformed know US holds the only solution and any UK gestures, although the morally correct thing to do would be tokenism and open up the whole Labour Anti-semitism row. And who is this Great Champion of the Left, George Galloway? He's as big a Grifter as Farage but just approaches from a different angle. We are where we are

and i think that that is the reason why people should'nt vote labour because conversely the muslim community is correspondingly huge and will / does have huge sway over labour policy making .
on a completely different note ... i mentioned at work the other day that i never notice pakistani people or black african types begging ? albanian types are noticed flogging the big issue but its mainly whites sitting with the begging bowls outside shops . Why ?
could it be they are better informed re benefits , better family support or are they higher up the drug supply chain ie suppliers rather than users so don't need to beg ?
Can I just get this right ... You are suggesting the reason that we very rarely see black African or Pakistani beggars on the streets, is because they are either better than white people at obtaining State benefits or because black African and Pakistani people don't actually need to beg at all because they are drug dealers? If that IS what you're suggesting, then blimey Phil ... Yep, I had to read it several times as well......

Hence why big business is comfortable with the incoming government I guess. Don't get me wrong, if you have a house, good job etc you don't want everything chucked up in the air on a 'shit or bust' economic strategy (whether its a right or left wing version of it) and some pragmatism is required but this purging of dissenting voices doesn't sit well with me.

We are where we are
That's a very good post wannabee and a lot of my friends who I speak with, have exactly the same opinion but I don't agree with it. Essentially, anybody to get the Tories out. Now you might (maybe even correctly) call this viewpoint nothing more than idealistic but I can't vote for a party, who kicks out a poltician for liking a tweet that suggests that there is an Israel Lobby influencing our politics, whilst on the very same day, they also parachute in a self proclaimed Israel lobbyist into one of their safest seats. This (well to me anyway) is sinister shit and I'm genuinely concerned at how much influence a foreign nation is now appearing to have (and being allowed to have) on the party. Shaheen was one of only six Labour MP's to increase the Labour vote at the last election. She is massively popular in her constituency and by any metric, she would be a huge asset for Labour at the next election but something rather sinister has trumped all of that and it absolutely scares the shit out of me. How can absolute titans of the Labour Party like Diane Abbot be treated with such utter contempt, whilst people like Natalie Elphicke are welcomed in with open arms? It absolutely stinks. I want to at least be able to trust the new guys a little bit more than I trusted the old guys running the show and if I'm honest, I'm not sure that I wouldn't rather that the Tories remained in power. I really can't vote for something that I know is fundamentally rotten at it's core, where could I possibly expect it to ultimately lead to?

Without going down Conspiracy rabbit holes, it's bizarre how Israel seems to get such unequivocal support from our government regardless of its make up. The Jewish population of the UK is tiny so why does it appear to hold such sway over decision making.
and i think that that is the reason why people should'nt vote labour because conversely the muslim community is correspondingly huge and will / does have huge sway over labour policy making .
on a completely different note ... i mentioned at work the other day that i never notice pakistani people or black african types begging ? albanian types are noticed flogging the big issue but its mainly whites sitting with the begging bowls outside shops . Why ?

Your first paragraph is entirely incorrect Your second and third the most breathtaking piece of racial profiling I've seen for quite some time I feel sorry for your work colleagues

but , i don't see pakistani or afro beggars on the streets and there must be a reason .especially since there are a significant number of these ethnic minorities in the country ?
if it is solely due to family support , then there is obviously something wrong with uk white culture and nobody is addressing it ?

I live in Woodford Green and have had to put up with IDS for the last 27 years. Shaheen came within 1300 votes of ousting him in 2019. Can you imagine how I feel Tangentially I felt she came across very poorly on Newsnight, she was obviously in shock and should never have taken the interview. She was too defensive of her "like" and invoking her baby was pathetic. I'm fast approaching 70 and I no longer feel I can change the world as I may have 50 years ago. My post is a reflection of that. I may be surprised or appalled at what Labour do in the next 5 years. It won't prevent me from supporting on Financial Policies as you and I have discussed nor will it stop me from heckling on other Policies like Gaza which i have criticised. This parachuting in of unsavoury characters is no different than occurred under Blair, on the whole that Administration made some improvements with one ginormous Fuck Up. It's like the original bag of Revels, you never knew what you were going to get until you bit in.

It's became a dictatorship and an incredibly dangerous one too. A common attack line you will now here from Starmer supporters is they'll look for examples where this occurred during Corbyns time and attempt to draw parallels. One example which regularly comes up is Walton which is a safe seat. The MP stood down to attempt to become Mayor. The Walton senior executive team was suspended by Labour at the time due to concerns about internal disputes and intimidation, and the need to ensure a fair process. The NEC at that time interviewed each of the candidates in a fair process which Dan Carden one. The loser, Joe Anderson, then tried to claim and imply that it was an unfair process. Joe Anderson was then arrested 3 years later for bribery and intimidation and the investigation is still ongoing. I may be bias but that sounds reasonable when you read the details and facts. What are the reasons for Islington, Durham, Brighton, Hackney and many other constituencies not being allowed to select candidates under Starmers leadership? He doesn't like who they pick.

How can 120 companies sign a letter backing Labours plans for the economy when Labour haven't actually said what their errr.. plans are ? They’ve been on the news mate: BBC, ITV, Sky, GBNews, the radio, internet. It’s been pretty difficult to miss to be fair. If you’ve missed them, or any of the other parties’ plans, I recommend you use a variety of sources to check them out before you vote. There’s an election July 4th.
