Starmer really is useless isn't he. The Tories have been an absolute disaster but a Labour govt under Starmer will just be more of the same if not even worse. Whenever I've seen him interviewed he always comes across as utterly spineless and clueless. I've watched a lot of his interviews and at the end of them I've still not got any idea what he's actually said. I'm no fan of Starmer but no one could be worse than these useless twats in charge at the moment......

He is going to have the opportunity to change the country's direction but he seems to have opted for a similar path to now but with a change of personnel. Top of his list should be the NHS which simply isn't fit for purpose in an era where our population is ageing - it needs a rethink about how to best deliver care. Only Labour has the good will to do anything about it but seemingly we have to limp on in managed decline.

Lying back tracking weasel
"I'm glad you played the whole clip.... because I didn't mean that"
BULLSHIT. He's had 6 months to correct the record and never once did. And now he's on national TV being questioned and he's pretending he didn't mean it. Bullshit.

We,the 99% and that is basically everyone on this board really dont have anyone at all to represent us.They are either left wing loonies right wing loonies or just loonies, and not in a nice way either. But people themselves are a reflection of governments .We have become a selfish nation where everyone looks after number one and the loser in that mentality is society itself. My father was a miner then Shelton Bar and then self employed, a staunch Labour man from a staunch Labour family. He has now become selfish, votes tory, and dislikes many foreigners which he never did before. He sees all the city collapsing around him but he thinks its all good because he has a few bob,and hes like the king of his tiny castle.Pathetic. Its actually a depressing time around the world at the moment. Still like to think of myself as a bit of an anarchist and the more the capitalist system devours itself the more anti government I become.

It's just as though he dives in with both feet, makes "definitive" vote catching policy "promises" and then when somebody points out it's not feasible, or questions him on the finer details, he's left totally floundering, and backtracks even quicker than when he first opened his mouth. He's so lightweight, totally lacking in any sort of conviction, and an utterly woeful untrustworthy politician (aren't they all though). To be like this even before the election is extremely worrying as to what will happen when he becomes P.M. It's a sad indictment of our political landscape when people will vote for Starmer in order to (rightly) boot the Tories out.

Despite disposing of this pathetic incumbent government you just can't see the celebration that immediately followed in 1997. He'll survive due to a massive majority, that's about it.

Think this would be a good outcome as could potentially mean labour needing to introduce PR for a coalition.
With that said... I think the tories and Labour would both choose a minority government over electoral reform.
One can hope.

Will they join Cameron Mk2? Will Tories and Labour just get it over with and build a coalition?

For those that think the GE outcome is in doubt these are the latest odds from Paddy Power, lump on you'll make a fortune.
UK - Next General Election
Next Government
Labour Majority. 1/12
Labour Minority. 10/1
Lab/LD Coalition. 20/1
Conservatives Minority. 20/1
Conservatives Majority. 25/1
Lab/SNP Coalition. 40/1

The Blackpool bye election result was the only positive thing about the recent results. That saw a 26% swing towards Labour, and Starmer would need that to form a majority government. I can see a situation arising where the Lib-Dems would need to go into coalition with them. That would be no bad thing. They're centre ground, would pull Starmer away from his right wing policies, and add some common sense to Labour's mad rush to the right. Also, even though it would be controversial, because he's doing such a good job, I'd keep Cameron on as Foreign Secretary.

The Tories would be absolutely delighted if this is the final result but I think this prediction is false. There were no elections in Scotland this week and I think Labour will make significant gains up there due to the SNP imploding. Also people don't always vote the same way in Local Elections compared to General Elections.

Problem with Labour is I don't think they'll support independance which alienates alot of voters. And I'm not sure if they have the pull for the Unionist vote. I think Alba could have a lot of influence on the result being another pro independance party and they could split the snp vote maybe allowing way for labour or Tory. Scottish people need to remember they have free water, public railways, free prescriptions, free university, lower taxes for lower earners, lower council tax, better nhs performance (still bad) and much more. The SNP have served them well. Not too sure what the other parties can offer to entice voters. Will be an interesting battleground anyway.

Sad state of affairs is that Captain Wishy Washy will win not because of his policies, or his appeal to the electorate, but because it is very much an anti Tory election. And rank and file Tories wont necessarily vote for Labour, but will stay away. Couple that with a diluted Tory vote due to reform and there is only one outcome. HUGE...And I mean fookin mahooooosive Labour majority, and history has told us a huge majority is never a good thing.

It would take the biggest swing of all time for Labour to win any majority, let alone a massive one. I predict a small majority which would be a monumental win for Labour given where we were the days after the 2019 election. Completely unforeseeable. Everyone was saying a a decade of Johnson government! Labour and Starmer may not be super popular, but they are obviously doing something right. They won’t win a majority if they only get the same voters as at the last election.
