Anyone know what normally happens to players fines - it seems a bit weird that they are just kept by the club and therefore they benefit to £50k as a result of players indiscipline. Maybe JM requested it go to DLT? Why would he want it to go to Dave Lee Travis? He deserves it. Imaging being the hairy cornflake himself and having to self isolate. The poor bugger

James McClean is one of the most generous footballers around in terms of his charitable donations and work in the community. But he made an ill judged joke on Instagram so I’m going to ignore all the good stuff and just lambast the bloke...... He deserves lambasting forn that stupid Instagram post. Having said that fair play to him for doing what he has done he. Like someone else has already stated, it makes you wonder what the fucking hell his problem is sometimes. Just like you & me, he is HUMAN.

I am appalled by James McClean. Yes great he makes a donation along with Joe, but he must think about what he is doing posting something so inane. No doubt he will get even more stick from opposition supporters from now on. Very sad and his behaviour will not help his children in the future. I think we've entered a world where sticks and stones will break my bones but words will really hurt me. Such a shame we're so affected by what people say and do. Get some resilience people and ignore the written words that affect you so much, and teach your children the same. Would reduce so much perceived pain in the world.

Whilst I've made my feelings clear on another thread regarding one of our players, I'll say hats off to the pair of them, let's hope many others with a few quid lying around follow suit. Indeed Stafford. Not so much hating the system but helping it to survive this crisis. And it needs help, not just in North Staffs but all over the country. I saw an interview with the CEO of a children's hospice in the NW explaining that the NHS provides only 17% of their income, with the rest coming from private fundraising which is dropping off a cliff with the cancellation of marathons, fund raising events etc. They provide such an important service that much more should come from the NHS, but that's perhaps a debate for another day.

My grandad ended up in the Katherine house hospice in Stafford. I can't say enough good things about the work they do there and of course other hospices up and down the country. It's a very worrying time for those who run these houses, I hope they get all the help they can, they do an incredible job.

It was an attempt at a satirical self-parody, but it wasn't very funny IMHO, was an uncomfortable image with the children there, and was certainly ill-judged, because I suspect many people looking at it didn't realise his intention, and many who did chose not to recognise it, because it's good ammunition for their dislike of him because of his views about Ireland. He does do a great deal of good ( on the field as well as off in my opinion) but is a good example of the truth that people who are intelligent and generous can also at times seriously lack judgement. Of course, that's true in life generally, not just football.

Malcolm,
I said I was appalled by the post and think it is in very taste. I applaud all footballers who do a lot of work in the community. For example all Stevenage players are delivering food to elderly people that are unable to get out. Very commendable and their chairman was saying, forget our position in the EFL.
I could not see satirical self-parody, I was thinking of doing this in front of children. I also stated in my previous post that it will give ammunition (no pun) to opposition supporters for the rest of his career in all probability.

I know that and you know that but the usual are straight on it. You're right, what a precious bunch of people He was a dick, pure and simple and that's why the club fined him and why he paid that fine. We'll done to him for the charitable contribution though. One thing that does concern me though, how many balaclavas does he own? I've never owned one and I'm over 50. Not the sort of attire you usually find in a sock drawer. I used have one when we had proper winters but with all the issues in this sad world they wouldn't even let you in a shop if you had one on.

Then the penny dropped that it's using the home education stuff for an attempt at a satirical take on the (untrue) accusations that he supports violence. But as I said, I can well imagine that many may not see that, and it really isn't very funny. None of us were there and so don't know, but I assume that he just popped the hood on for the photo. The kids are quite young and probably didn't know or care what it was all about. It's more the promulgation on social media of a picture of children looking at a bloke in hood which I found uncomfortable. I agree with your last sentence, which is partly why I said it showed very poor judgement. I think I'll offer my services as his PR manager

One thing I do know though, is that you cannot go around regularly disrespecting the hand that feeds you and not expect a negative reaction, especially on a subject that is still a very raw and touchy one in this country. The very Republican army that he obviously follows, killed a lot of people in this country so when he constantly rams this down people's throats there is always going to be a reaction. He has his own reasons for his beliefs and that is perfectly up to him and I think I stand for most rational folk of this country when I say, I don't care one bit about these beliefs, but he cannot keep taking the piss on such an emotive subject and expect to get away with it. He deserves every bit of stick he gets and he must enjoy it all otherwise he wouldn't keep doing it, and that's the worst thing about this all for me, because he knows exactly what he is doing, and all the time he just drags our Football Clubs name along with it. The quicker he leaves our club the better, because no matter how much good work he does in the community he ruins it all everytime he acts like a bellend either on social media or each year when he turns Rememberance Sunday into a circus centred around him.

Part of the problem with all this is that the history of the Irish problem is complex and nuanced. You say the "very republican army which he obviously follows killed a lot of people" but it's not as simple as that. Far from it. There has been the official IRA, the provisional IRA, now the new IRA and various other branches, with very, very different approaches to violence. In this country, for understandable reasons, most people associate the IRA with the provisional IRA but even they abandoned violence as part of the Good Friday agreement, and we had the extraordinary achievement of Ian Paisley and Martin McGuiness working together as First Minister and deputy and even known as the chuckle brothers. And of course the British Army killed innocent citizens in McLean's home City on bloody Sunday, which no doubt influences his approach to wearing a poppy, but I don't think it's accurate to say that he turns remembrance Sunday into a circus centred around him. I'm not aware of anything he's done like that. I do remember when we played at the City Ground in November 18 he linked arms with the rest of the team during the minute silence. I can't believe he enjoys all this, but, without repeating in detail what I've said above, I do think he made a significant error of judgement with this post. Like the large majority of Stoke fans, I've never met him, let alone discussed the Irish issue with him (something I'd actually like to do, to understand his position better, but of course it won't ever happen) but I agree with you to this extent that I suspect that he doesn't understand what an emotive subject this can be for many people on this side of the water as well, and how easily actions can be misunderstood and misinterpreted.

How about the time he purposely ran out of the tunnel during the last post/minutes silence whilst every other player from both teams were either on the pitch or observing by the dug out? That was a pre determined action, done for one reason and one reason only mate, it had to be.

Well done to both of them. Allen gets way too much stick on here. Such a great pro. Absolutely I don't get the attitude towards him. Had a tough time when we went down as did so many and sometimes lost his head a bit and chased too many lost causes but under MON was looking the player he was in patches. Anyway as many have said well done to both but as we've seen some don't engage their brains and use the thread to knock one or both but you get that kind everywhere.
