What changes have been made to the vetting of potential signings after so many poor signings? MON: One of the people I brought to the club, Andy Cousins, ,worked on recruitment for me with at Northern Ireland but also had a dual role with Manchester City.
So he brought a lot of knowledge, but in this transfer window we were operating within the knowledge we had and we knew we wouldn’t be spending £3m or whatever it might be.
Our league position damaged us in persuading a Liverpool or Man City in giving us one of their younger players and we did make a pith for that scenario.
Going forward, between now and the summer, we need to build a department which is robust and identifies the right talent.
The main thing is, we have learned from situations in the past and use that to build the right structures going forward to minimise the risk, because there is a risk with every player you sign, and hopefully we’ll get ,more right than we get wrong.
Any intention to name a new club president? TS: No.
Should ladies' fixtures be clearer on the club website? TS: Yes. The under-18s are in a cup final and so are the women’s, so good progress from them.
Tony, why no coaches for fans going to Man City tomorrow? TS: I didn’t know there weren’t any coaches.
If there had been a demand then there would have been.

Tony, who is accountable for the left-back situation over the last two or three years?TS: What’s the situation? He really is a twattish piece of work isn't he. I'm surprised that MON is staying for the whole meeting. Surely there must be some international business that needs attending to by now.

No plans for a new club president
I believe this comes from Peter Coates, he's a bit weird when it comes to the old players

Who is accountable for Wimmer, Imbula and Berahino?JC: Clearly, we’ve acknowledged that some signings haven’t been the best and I can feel the pain of that from a fan perspective and the fact that since 2006 we’ve put in £224m into the club I think. You don’t want to recruit badly and we absolutely acknowledge we’ve got to get better at it and we will. 16m per season. Pretty expensive season ticket.

I don't like how he's stepped in and fielded at least two questions that were quite obviously directed at TS. I mean, I respect him for trying to present a united front and having his CEO's back or whatever, but "What changes have been made to the vetting of potential signings after so many poor signings?" is clearly directed at Scholes and Junior.

www.stokesentinel.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/stoke-forum-oneill-coates-scholes-3931090Do we need a director of football?JC: Recruitment hasn’t been quite as good as we’d have liked and we are working with Michael to come up with the right structure and team to get it right. Bear with us on that one. Why did a director get a pay increase of £155,000?JC: That’s not true. Accounts can say many things and Tony (Scholes) did not get such a pay increase. What I can tell you is that Tony has been working with us for a long time and a lot of those years were some of the best in the club’s history. We’ve had two bad years and I share responsibility. We find Tony a good guy to work with, we think he’s good at his job and all I can tell you about renumeration, whatever Tony is paid it doesn’t stop us investing in the team or management team. Are you confident we won't face a points deduction next season?JC: Yes. Michael, why is there such a gap between Premier League and Championship referees?MON: I’m not sure that would be the opinion in the Premier League given the problems of VAR. Personally, I don’t think the referees have been that bad, certainly better for me than international games because in those they don’t tend to understand me! You get one warning in the Championship and based on that Paul Cook should be in jail by now! Other than the decision that went against us at Luton, overall they haven’t been that bad.

Some of the answers to these questions are pure car crash, and I'm not talking about any that MON has answered.
It's quite clear, from two of these events now, that there is no clear direction from either of these idiots in charge. It's clear yet again that everything is hanging on the manager with respect to recruitment, with the manager tonight virtually begging for help.
It's now crystal clear how and why we've ended up in this mess and doubly clear to me how we get out of it.
I've never been less confident in where this club is heading. They have not got a single clue.

Michael, what's your preference, homegrown or overseas players? MON: The most exotic player I have with Northern Ireland is Connor Washington from Peterborough!
It’s about getting the balance right.
You’ll have seen players playing for Stoke City in the Premier League who’s struggled in the Championship, so a PL player isn’t going to necessarily excel in the Championship.
Whilst I wouldn’t say we would be predominantly British going forward, that will be a driver, for example there’s good value in Scotland because their wages are cheap.
If you bring overseas players into your club you want to see it as a real opportunity and not looking for the exit door after six months.

With regard to Delilah’s there may well be improvements.
Has he never heard of sunny days? Jesus.

John, what are the benefits of making the CEO a member of the board? JC: I don’t see that as particularly unusual.
It’s a private company with very hands-on owners and the system works in our eyes.
Results haven’t been what we wanted, but I don’t think it makes much difference to that whether the CEO is or is not a director.
Tony, any plans for a fan park or improvements to Delilah's? TS: No to the fan park because of the weather, so no plans.
With regard to Delilah’s there may well be improvements.
Any plans for a Stoke City hall of fame? TS: Not at this moment, no.

Michael, what do you think about the song about you drinking Guinness and whisky? MON (laughing): I’d hoped they would be singing about my tactical genius or motivational skills.
They are stereotyping Irishmen there!
I’ve never drank whisky in my life and only drink Guinness in Belfast.
I’d much rather they sing about the team, to be honest, but it seems to have caught on, and hopefully it will die out!
I have noticed that the song tends to die out when we are behind - maybe that’s the secret - I didn’t hear it at Derby for instance.
Your best team, Michael? MON: I knew it after about three or four weeks in the building.
Consistency of selection, system and on the training pitch is what we’ve tried to do.
Tony, is Benik Afobe a done deal to Bristol City? TS: No it isn’t.
Benik is back in training and the loan to Bristol is still in place.
The loan expires at the end of June and as things stand he returns to us.

So the system works does it, John?
You're talking bollocks and talking in riddles. It doesn't work and hasn't worked else we wouldn't have gone from 9th in the PL to bottom end of the Championship, and in your own words, spent 224M in the process.
I'd be embarrassed to admit I'd spent that much to fail and even more embarrassed to admit that I thought 'The System' worked.
Jesus Christ please let this be the last of these events.
No wonder he doesn't want a non executive director on board. It's obvious he wouldn't want to hear the truth and wouldn't listen to it anyway.

Michael, Tom Edwards isn't getting the same game time as previous, what's going on with him? MON: He’s very much a part of the squad and training with the squad.
Against Reading, I felt his confidence looked short and he looked anxious.
He seemed to suffer a bit and he’s young and sometimes you have to take young players out of that situation.]
Also we spent quite a bit of money on Tommy Smith, but Tom is very much in the plans, but he’s going to have to do more to push his way into the team.
He’s got the potential, but the onus is on Tom to fulfil that potential.
John, was the appointment of Paul Lambert about funds? JC: It wasn’t about funds.
I hold my hands up when things go wrong, but it’s never been because of a lack of ambition.
