We've had a 'mare handling this virus, be in no doubt about that. I suppose when the dust settles there will be an enquiry 5 years in the making by which time everything and everyone will have moved on. They'll get away with it in my opinion if they manage to keep the economy afloat. The public still seem to be giving them the benefit of the doubt. There's also the possibility of further waves not effecting the country as badly if more of our susceptible have been exposed this time around.

With my amateur quack hat on I reckon you are right about the susceptible. Even without anything like herd immunity it's hard not to believe some folks are just more susceptible than others. And yes they'll get away with it. People on the whole back their leaders at times of war and they will for the most part just want to move on when this shit show reaches its merciful denoument.

I find the graph in that article most disturbing. A growth in deaths in Japan and a very conveniently dodgy plateau in China.

Stay at home? Or should that be stay alert? Stay bent over and get fucked from behind I think is the message from the government if you're being made redundant and can't access the furlough scheme. There is no need for companies to make people redundant at this moment in time due to the Furlough scheme. Job losses, however, are inevitable. We have nearly 1000 production staff on a turnover of 150m. If turnover falls to 90m, we won't need nearly 1000 production staff and redundancies will be inevitable. Furlough scheme helps to keep people in jobs for longer and if they are made redundant now, that is the fault of the business in question rather than the Government.

That's exactly the worry isn't it and what will be the consequences? I get the economy needs to get going but it seems they're trying to do it a hell of a pace, without much consideration for how one action could influence another. It feels like the government have given up on the virus. If I didn't know better I would say there is no way to control or stop the virus going by the reactions of the UK and US the past few weeks. That was my whole point yesterday. Slowly get out there, quite a lot may get it, most will either show no or little symptoms, unfortunately some will die. The other option is stay in lockdown indefinitely and bankrupt the country and cause deaths in other ways. Didn't someone say on that cruise ship that they found traces on surfaces weeks after? If that's the case, seriously, other than sticking to the basic guidelines of washing hands and 2 metres and face masks when needed then what chance have you got of not getting it at some point and hopefully you don't suffer. I think that is what its come down to in a lot of countries in Europe now.

Testing
We need to get this really firing don't we?
Still only testing 60k actual people per day and that counts these rather flaky tests in the post.
We must believe there is now very little Covid in our towns and cities or we would not be sending people back to work.
So this is the moment to get on the front foot and hunt down the fucker.
But beyond the regional hospital admissions numbers we don't seem to have much of a clue where it really remains.
But we need to be hunting it down at town, street and even home level.
But how do we do that with so little data?
Some will say this blasted App on the Isle of Wight but somehow you just know it won't work!

Nicola Sturgeon has insisted that "all appropriate steps were taken" over a coronavirus outbreak at a Nike conference in Edinburgh in February. At least 25 people linked to the event on 26 and 27 February are thought to have contracted the virus. But the public was not told despite health authorities knowing about the outbreak within days.Link.

I think that is what its come down to in a lot of countries in Europe now. You’re right mate. All governments are now faced with either letting people take some risks and get on with something normal. Or carry on a strict lockdown for 6 months after which the economy would be wrecked and god knows how many would be unemployed. It’s a sad choice but pretty much inevitable

Isn't the fact that people are going back to work (rightly or wrongly - I'm not getting distracted by thar debate) at least a place to start. Employers need to appoint a tester (which could be subsidised by the state) to test employees on a regular basis. Not only should that re-assure workers - it also provides data and allows follow up (can then test members of household or other contacts of positives). Employers then have to upload all results weekly. It's not perfect and it doesn't capture everyone but at least its a start of collating a wider database systematically.

I saw on tv last night that we're probably one of the few European country to record the death figures as accurately as possible. I wonder how many countries world wide can actually say the same?

The only policy that has been proven to have any effect is in the world is 'TEST, TRACE, ISOLATE' . Common Sense says you follow the only policies that have worked for others. We still have not implemented this policy even yet and are relaxing the lockdown. Still no Testing in some major cities (Sheffield for example where there are 2 hospitals employing 17,000 people, no testing, hospitals in Derbyshire with zero masks...so much for Protect the NHS!) Public Health experts/workers are still waiting for a commitment from the Government for scaling up targeted testing after 2 months. Still not happening. It's not simply testing either, the point of testing is it needs to be accompanied by a programme of proper analysis and a tracing policy for it to be worthwhile or remotely effective. There is still no evidence that this is happening. It doesn't even look like its on the table anymore.

John caudwell has just been on GMB and said exactly the same as me yesterday. In a nutshell, protect the vulnerable and let the virus spread around the country in a controlled way if possible, based on hopefully the fact that once you've had it you are immune. And that the cost of what's happened and if it stayed like that would cause more deaths and problems than the virus spreading and getting immune.
I'd like to know in say 2 or 5 years say, how many people in this country will have had the virus. Massive percentage if you ask me.

Do you want to tell me a country that doesn't? Again can you explain the russia figures? If its universally agreed that Official Enquiries (in any country) are ineffective and corrupted by establishment then why would anyone propose the idea that we wait for an official enquiry before exercising judgement? That doesn't make any sense?

That doesn't make any sense? I haven't proposed an enquiry? I couldn't give a flying about an enquiry as like people have said every country will cover stuff up. For a massive cost of an enquiry why have one? Lessons learned yes, a full enquiry other than the right people knowing now or will do when it's over for me is enough.

I wonder how many countries world wide can actually say the same? You have a lot of faith in what you see on TV. In other countries they see facts on TV too. Different facts, but seeing something on TV is not necessarily a basis for informed opinion anywhere in the world. I'm not saying it was wrong either, I just wonder on what basis you have to so much faith on what information we are fed?
