They certainly don't need to be pushing stuff through my door. Literally nothing stopping them though as they'll see it as essential. Totally agree with you though. You can argue staying open can be seen as essential to them but posting leaflets through peoples doors whilst the world is going into isolation is just downright irresponsible and should be treated the same as these dickheads coughing in peoples faces and licking cleaning products in the shops.

The guidance is clear. STAY AT HOME. Sorry to shout. Keep repeating it march, it doesn’t change the ambiguity..... Get this for ambiguity. My mum had the text message yesterday to say she is in the most vulnerable group. 'Stay indoors for 12 weeks and you can have one window open' First question, can I go out into the garden for fresh air as none of my neighbours are near me? Second question, can I put my bin out for collection if there is nobody around? and so on, and so on.

I see a local and well known debt collection agency is still open. Imagine how morally compromised you’ve got to be to keep that operating with what’s going on at the minute. Essential indeed, eh. Unreal. Scum of the earth, just like the t.v license men they only prey on the vulnerable. I haven't had a t.v license for years and sent the last one packing, they have not knocked on since Don’t people use debt collectors when other people (businesses) refuse to pay them? Quite an essential business service tbf.

I agree. But this is where the weak talk comes into it. I think it's a situation created by poor communication and a general lack of bollocks in government. I'd be fuming too if they were leafleting around me. But they're trying to keep their business afloat so I can see why someone may feel the need to do it.

My eldest grandchild is in Cardiff studying for her Masters. She also works at Tesco's part time to subsidise her finances. She's now struggling to get there and it will take an hour and a half to walk if there's no public transport. She says she may have to use Uber but no doubt they'll up their charges, making it uneconomical to go to work. (She doesn't drive and she hasn't got a bike.) Other grandchild news. My youngest is a top class juniors Long-jumper, having been S-o-T and Staffs Schools champion for the last three years and also winning the 10 Counties Mason's Trophy at Birmingham. He represented Staffs in year 1 Under-17's at the Nationals last year and did well. He also made the UK Under-17's finals representing S-o-T Athletic Club last season. This year he's moved up to Year 2 and was hoping to maybe get a podium place in both those events. That's all gone now. He'll have to try and pick up next season when he competes in the Under-20's. He's also a good rugby player and had got a scholarship lined up with Wigan Warriors for next season, but for that he'd have to progress through the academy this summer. That's gone too now. So, in the greater scheme of things, providing he's healthy, it doesn't matter, but these are the day to day things that will affect him and many more youngsters like him, and they can never be undone. Anyway, keep safe guys. OS. I’m sure if she put out a call out on social media someone would loan her a bike for a few weeks fella, beats being stung by Uber charges and safer anyway from a social distancing perspective.... Good idea

We have just had a bloke walking up our street posting advertising leaflets for takeaways, utter madness!! I know a couple of people, my dad for instance who is rural and struggling with health issues for who take aways have been a lifesaver if has no help available. Some are delivering to rural areas for free, non contact etc If no one there he can't cook and the delivery people been great to him. He found one via a flyer so they are essential to some

But that isn't the point though is it. You're just being contrary. For a change. A stranger who may be infected with Coronavirus is walking from door to door pushing glossy leaflets which may be infected with the disease through letterboxes which then spreads the disease to every householder he visits. Yes you are correct he does have every right to do it but it doesn't make it RIGHT. In the present circumstances it is morally indefensible and I'd ram it right down his fucking throat. It is though because the government messaging is so bloody ambiguous and open to all sorts of interpretation. It shouldn't be. I absolutely agree with everything you've wrote but they should be legally not allowed to do it but that just isn't the case as far as I can see. But the point I was trying to make was we shouldn't have to legislate for things like that. It is our moral obligation to behave responsibly both as individuals and businesses. The Government have provided a financial backstop for both business and individuals. The irony is a takeaway food place is currently on the exempted list so they don't have to close. They also very definitely don't have to deliver leaflets which probably have a limited marketing effect anyway. It is just an example of the thoughtless, selfish, I'm alright jack, fuck the rest of you attitude that pervades our society.

To be fair to takeaway services.....several outlets in my local town are operating takeaway services and delivery services, specifically for those who cannot get out/the vulnerable/the elderly who do not people to help them out, purely so these people can get a hot meal inside them. Fair enough, most tend not to be the big fast food franchises and are local business trying to help out, but it is a service that is needed by some people. Not all of us are able to get out to a shop for food and/or are able to get much food even if we can get out due to the panic buying pricks.
The service continuing is actually quite important in some small towns and villages etc. for this purpose.
However, the leafleting to promote isn't necessary in any way shape or form. Our town has set up a facebook page so locals can offer their services to help elderly/vulnerable people (collect shopping, prescriptions etc.) and so these places can advertise their services and menus online, and then we as locals can inform any elderly we know about it (if they're are not on social media themselves). People going door to door to promote anything at the moment is just bloody ridiculous.

I'd call that genuine concerns. Me too. But then I think worrying about your job, family etc (like most people are) are genuine concerns too. The government have a hand to play in all of that. I did say in an earlier post that they need to get the support packages/systems in place asap. I don't think that they can do that overnight......and unfortunately one big spanner in the works....some people/organisations will see the support packages as a great opportunity to make loads of money ( how can you check if a claim is genuine in this situation)....so they do have to be careful how the system is put into place. I don't think that the government are going to come out of this blameless, but they can't magically answer all problems. In my opinion.

No I'm sorry Bayern it shouldn't take the Goverment to make a human being realise posting something through a strangers door at this time is down right stupidity. Like I said, staying open foe business because the goverment haven't told you to close is 1 thing, thinking it's alright to post menu's to houses is just a completly new level of stupidity. Human beings need to take an element of responsibility in all this, the goverment can't do it all on their own.

Bit bizarre what does/doesn't fit into the "exempted list" though e.g. have just seen a post on the local fb group (i referred to in my last post) listing the stalls that will remain open in our local market. Butchers (fine), baker (fine), green grocer (fine), stall that only sells homemade fudge (seriously?????? Homemade fudge is now a fucking essential food item???)

Underneath all our clever posturing and nit picking semantics we all know what the right things to do are whether the Government tells us to do it or not.

Just looking at the death stats & I'm expecting another jump today. We had 3 days in the teens/twenties before it jumped into the thirties/forties for 3 days, then we've just had our third day around the fifty mark so we're more than likely due another jump? In the bizarre world we're living in now if we get 'only' 50-odd deaths today we surely have to class that as a 'good' day?

To rectify this I needed to click a link and re enter my bank details. Of course I did. The email was from a Belgian broadband provider. Clearly Phishing. Just give a heads up to all your elderly and vulnerable family and friends that these unscrupulous bastards will intensify their efforts during a time of stress and distraction to rip the arse out of every crisis.

There's also a MSN and appleID password confirmation one going around - I assume once they have these they can sign you up to 'in purchase' apps and then charge a shed load to your account. I always worry about my parents falling for these - especially the TV and apple ones - they are quite convincing, not that my dad has the faintest idea of what appleID is anyway...
