Felonious has provided a link above, but Sports Direct has now been ordered to close.
Why aren't computer and electrical shops exempt? I would have thought all electrical items, including phones and laptops should be a top priority now we're all relying on them for communication. Phones etc still break and need repairing/replacing asap. Seems common sense to me.

There's many, many diy jobs that are a piece of piss with the help of a YouTube search, no special skills required for 95% of them. You're over estimating the intelligence of most on here. Haha, I doubt on here is much different from the general public mate. I reckon most people could do a lot more than they first thought, two problems usually in my opinion - fear of fucking it up and a lack of tools It's usually cheaper to buy the tools than it is to pay somebody to do the job and if it's fucked anyway it doesn't matter much what you do to it

Because that is what the prime minister instructed you to do. If an unscrupulous, selfish boss demands you break that instruction then report them to the police who have the powers to force them to close and stay at home. It really isn’t difficult. You obviously don't live or work in the real world. It is very difficult. Not everyone works in the retail or service sector. People in engineering and manufacturing and construction. Report your boss to the police?? Yeh... right. Of course it is difficult. Perhaps it is actually impossible for someone else to make blanket unchallengeable decisions for others that makes clear all circumstances.....knowing what you know...what advice would you give? Likewise....is a prearranged MOT test essential?....what if the vehicle belongs to a key worker, What if a dangerous car causes a fatal accident? What if the virus is somehow passed on through joint use of the steering wheel ( which could have been cleaned)? I don't think that the government CAN make each individual decision for us and it is easy to say that the guidance isn't clear....perhaps it's as clear as it can be ...until ( if we do) we get to the stage of martial law....and then many will not be happy for other reasons.

Guys I keep saying the following hope that it might help you with planning ahead. We have to follow how other countries are doing things as in general it will all be the same. 3 weeks ago Italy was in the same spot. Lockdown announced and I was lamenting the contradiction: stay at home. But go to work. It became clear the following day that was the generic approach. Businesses across the country in all sectors will have been contacted and today the majority will work on organising how to continue business the best way in time for the eventual full lockdown. Working from home or percentage payment, whatever it takes, but it will take a few days. It was never going to be Monday work as normal, announcement Monday night and then Tuesday don't go in. No businesses can't work that way. By Thursday the situation will be very different to right now so just follow the instructions as best you can. One thing which will become very obvious is in a week's time, many people's opinion will be changed by the amount of infected and deaths and this goes for employers as well. Some sectors are still expected to work in Italy and are even striking today for it. No one wants to work in this situation whilst still at risk. The voice of reason and common sense from what appears to be a Hell on Earth. There are a few on here need to read that and then have a bit of a look at themselves.

To defend those still operating, I guess it is difficult/impossible to initiate a shutdown overnight. Most of our staff are working from home but there are 3 or 4 in the office and a couple in the warehouse. When they turned up this morning the container they were expecting arrived, so the transport side of that are still working for now. If we hadn’t turned up we’re talking potentially thousands in terms of cost. Then we have had some customers saying they are closing at the end of play today and others, some in food production, still operating as usual and expecting to be serviced if required. I guess there will be a message going to head office telling them what’s going on and they’ll make a decision from there.
The problem as far as I can tell is that if they apply the 80% furloughing of staff, you can’t work during that period, unless I have that wrong? Either way, it was as clear as mud last night.

So frustrating. Shut the tube down, and utilise black cab drivers to fetch and carry NHS workers to and from their place of work. Never cope with the volume in a million years. There must be just as many supermarket workers needing to get to work too and those that supply the supermarkets and the NHS. They should have left the tube timetable and stations as was I think. My eldest grandchild is in Cardiff studying for her Masters. She also works at Tesco's part time to subsidise her finances. She's now struggling to get there and it will take an hour and a half to walk if there's no public transport. She says she may have to use Uber but no doubt they'll up their charges, making it uneconomical to go to work. (She doesn't drive and she hasn't got a bike.) Other grandchild news. My youngest is a top class juniors Long-jumper, having been S-o-T and Staffs Schools champion for the last three years and also winning the 10 Counties Mason's Trophy at Birmingham. He represented Staffs in year 1 Under-17's at the Nationals last year and did well. He also made the UK Under-17's finals representing S-o-T Athletic Club last season. This year he's moved up to Year 2 and was hoping to maybe get a podium place in both those events. That's all gone now. He'll have to try and pick up next season when he competes in the Under-20's. He's also a good rugby player and had got a scholarship lined up with Wigan Warriors for next season, but for that he'd have to progress through the academy this summer. That's gone too now. So, in the greater scheme of things, providing he's healthy, it doesn't matter, but these are the day to day things that will affect him and many more youngsters like him, and they can never be undone. Anyway, keep safe guys. OS.

Whilst nobody wants the stress of loosing their job I would think that if an employer is being unreasonable in the difficult times they would not have a leg to stand on in a unfair dismissal claim. ?
I heard this morning that the vast majority of Sports Direct employees are on Zero Hrs contracts to further complicate the debate. Don’t know if this is true.

I don't do DIY so I'm struggling to think of a necessity apart from light bulbs. Presumably virtually every tradesman has an account with B&Q and the likes therefore there must be every sort of part for the electricians, plumbers, etc. There will be many members of the general public able to do some of these jobs. There's many, many diy jobs that are a piece of piss with the help of a YouTube search, no special skills required for 95% of them. There are many, many men out there who haven't got a clue about DIY, I see one of them every day in the mirror

It won't come with like the rest of our laws with learned volumes of test cases written by lawyers who can't even agree on the interpretation of legislation from the 1700's. So all you can do is dish it out and then dance around on your feet to try to handle any issues at the margins. Even then it will need a healthy slice of good faith to go with it.

But that isn't the point though is it. You're just being contrary. For a change. A stranger who may be infected with Coronavirus is walking from door to door pushing glossy leaflets which may be infected with the disease through letterboxes which then spreads the disease to every householder he visits. Yes you are correct he does have every right to do it but it doesn't make it RIGHT. In the present circumstances it is morally indefensible and I'd ram it right down his fucking throat.

The usual suspects aren’t in that situation, so it’s easy for them to just keep parroting the line “stay at home” Because that is what the prime minister instructed you to do. If an unscrupulous, selfish boss demands you break that instruction then report them to the police who have the powers to force them to close and stay at home. It really isn’t difficult. It isn’t difficult for you as you’re clearly not in that situation. If you think it isn’t difficult for someone self employed to decide between leaving the house and working or putting food on the table, or someone being told to still go to work even if their “key worker” status is debatable you’re being naive......
