Our company supplies b&q and wickes and they're open because it's essential for those who need a new cooker/plumbing supplies etc... So we stay open cause they do. Is b&q definatly open? Yes with very good social distancing practices in place.

Yes with very good social distancing practices in place. So if I wanted to do some DIY to help with boredom I could go up there and be able to purchase anything?

Yes with very good social distancing practices in place. Plumcenter/Wolsley have closed for an undecided amount of time. Only supplier we use and have accounts with. Strange they decided close but the kingfisher group are keeping theres open

For all those saying it's common sense, a quick yes/no answer. If a person has a shift starting at Sports Direct at 09:00, is it common sense to stay at home and resign from their job? As stated above by a sensible poster the decision was made, announced and then has to be digested, and implemented by the various companies, organisation, etc at the highest level of their organisations and then communicated down to employees and the general public. I believe that Sports Direct have clarified their position overnight. People are being asked impossible questions in a situation which is absolutely akin to the fog of war. There are no quick yes/no answers in a unprecedented crisis like this which no government has ever faced before and which must be horrendous to manage on every level with snipers around every corner. There's no quick answer true, meaning it's not just "common sense". It's complicated.

It's frightening isn't it.... we've gone from What's in a word to What's in a tweet. Intelligence and common sense can sometimes be uneasy bedfellows. For all those saying it's common sense, a quick yes/no answer. If a person has a shift starting at Sports Direct at 09:00, is it common sense to stay at home and resign from their job? Stay at home.

The usual suspects aren’t in that situation, so it’s easy for them to just keep parroting the line “stay at home” Because that is what the prime minister instructed you to do. If an unscrupulous, selfish boss demands you break that instruction then report them to the police who have the powers to force them to close and stay at home. It really isn’t difficult.

Some friends of mine who live in Lincolnshire have rented a cottage just outside Aberdeen to be near their daughter and grandchildren. Forty Eight hours after arriving and settling in they have been kicked out and told to leave Scotland and go home. I can see some logic in this , BUT THESE REALLY ARE STRANGE TIMES. Kicked out by the owners? I think we'll see more of this, the good citizens of Devon and Cornwall are already in revolt about townies moving in great numbers to their second homes potentially bringing with them a deadly contagion and taking 'their' hospital beds. I mean why wouldn't you go there if you could and why wouldn't you object if you lived there? Nothing but trouble ahead as far as the eye can see. I think the good citizens of Devon and Cornwall are absolutely right on this one with their message of stay away and don't put us or our services at risk. The message is the same as the one mentioned by a Scottish minister about idiots self isolating in the Highlands and the Welsh tourism minster saying as much as we love tourists now is not the time to come to wales. These people need to use local shops at a minimum and the likelihood is they will be spreading the virus.

You don't know each persons individual situation so you can't say that. It is difficult for people. The government portal hasn't been set up yet so people want the reassurance they are going to be paid. Plus, you don't know the individual bosses that people have to work for, so again, you can't say it isn't difficult. Just because your not in the situation, doesn't make the decision easy for the people who are.

I really don’t get that. Govt need to rethink DIY centres. I don't do DIY so I'm struggling to think of a necessity apart from light bulbs. Presumably virtually every tradesman has an account with B&Q and the likes therefore there must be every sort of part for the electricians, plumbers, etc. There will be many members of the general public able to do some of these jobs.

Guys I keep saying the following hope that it might help you with planning ahead. We have to follow how other countries are doing things as in general it will all be the same.
3 weeks ago Italy was in the same spot. Lockdown announced and I was lamenting the contradiction: stay at home. But go to work.
It became clear the following day that was the generic approach. Businesses across the country in all sectors will have been contacted and today the majority will work on organising how to continue business the best way in time for the eventual full lockdown.
Working from home or percentage payment, whatever it takes, but it will take a few days. It was never going to be Monday work as normal, announcement Monday night and then Tuesday don't go in. No businesses can't work that way. By Thursday the situation will be very different to right now so just follow the instructions as best you can.
One thing which will become very obvious is in a week's time, many people's opinion will be changed by the amount of infected and deaths and this goes for employers as well.
Some sectors are still expected to work in Italy and are even striking today for it. No one wants to work in this situation whilst still at risk.

You obviously don't live or work in the real world. It is very difficult. Not everyone works in the retail or service sector. People in engineering and manufacturing and construction. Report your boss to the police?? Yeh... right.

Careful your in a high pressure danger zone and talking sense puts you in the firing line on here lol. Stay safe mate hope you and your family still ok. As far as I’m aware me and my son are back I work next week, my oldest daughter starts in the path lab next Monday her masters in microbiology has been put on hold for now. My youngest daughter has been in work this morning to lock up and shut down she’s now back at home for three weeks, she’s been told for the next three weeks she’s on 100% wage guarantee, so with living at home she’s ok for money. The wife’s working from home next week as she’s off this week as well. And my youngest lad is now off his immunosuppressants and is quarantined for 12 weeks, wife went mad yesterday as I tried nail him in his room and said I’d pass his food under the door for twelve weeks.

That's good to know. I was proper fretting about them closing down. I can get that critical Badminton Racket now.
Thank fuck for that.

Thank fuck for that. The last thing you'll find at Sports Direct is a badminton racket, or anything much to do with sport. Just piles of festering old tat for hanging around on street corners in, which we can't do anyway:-)
