Been reading this thread all week
I run my own business and was a bit shocked at the Boris statement about work. I’ve decided to tell all my workers not to go work tomorrow and I will pay them for three weeks. This will be hard but hopefully will stop the virus spreading. If a small company like mine can do it Mike Ashley you are a disgrace to the human race.

Are you taking the piss ?? You are obviously in a position where you can dish out this advice without recourse. Not really I had planned to be visiting my 90 year old mother in staffordshire this week I will stay in london now.

The official advice is travel to work if you cannot work at home, the word essential does not exist in the official documentation. So everyone who can’t work at home according to official advice still has to go in if they aren’t on shutdown. It’s in black and white. Contrary to the key worker exception mentioned in the now deleted tweet. The very fact they had to delete a tweet is an indication the information was incorrect or unclear. These are unprecedented times and modelling is never perfect so I have sympathies with that side but this is a simple comms fuck up. Simple as that. Hasn't Boris made clear that he has the finest brains at his disposal when it comes to planning and logistics? Our military personnel. I wouldn't deny that but when you have a total idiot in charge - it nullifies all else.

I don’t think he contradicted anything. There was one message - stay at home. There are massive contradictions March. Government tweet an hour ago: The only reason you may leave your home is to go to work (if you're a key worker) Government tweet now: The only reason you may leave your home is to go to work (but work from home if possible) They are ENTIRELY different instructions. It’s so arbitrary and subjective as to be useless. Where is the objective guidance? It’d be funny if it wasn’t so serious

Bad communication.
However I still think the definitive action will be in place.
I've seen several articles already outlining which types of businesses would remain open.
Supermarkets, pharmacies, pet shops, banks, post offices.
Later this week more and more will lose for sure.

Bollocks. You obviously live a straightforward life. The normal joe doesn't know what to do regards work. Not really unless your going to work saves someones life or helps someone else saves someones life you should stay at home and your work should be making this decision for you tomorrow. Thank you for the last sentence. But they will not.

No intention of closing down building sites. If you’re on one and your employer wants you in, you’re going in. Completely at odds with the deleted tweet. Conflicting bollocks. was just about to share this....talk about confusing!!

Well if you have a legal department they should be advising your company of the potential liability if they stay open and someone dies because of that.

Italy's coronavirus deaths, elderly at high risk
In its most complete analysis of the outbreak yet published, the national health institute (ISS) said the average age of those who died was 78.5 years, with the youngest victim aged 31 and the oldest 103. The median age was 80.

Tubes will be packed again tomorrow. My only conclusion can be that Johnson and Cummimgs think they will lose votes in key places if they appear more authoritarian and want enough wriggle room for white van man to spread it like wildfire.

Well if you have a legal department they should be advising your company of the potential liability if they stay open and someone dies because of that. Why do you think the official government advice has changed from staying at home unless you're a key worker, to continue to go to work if you can't work from home? That is a ginormous change in advice.

It’s all over the place mate, Jendrick saying the complete opposite now and that building sites are fine as long as you follow Distancing guideline! I’d laugh, but it’s deadly serious.

Right guys, everyone to bed. We've work in the morning*.
*Unless you work in a non-essential section **Businesses themselves are fine to define what is essential and what is not ***If you work for Mike Ashley, you'd better be in tomorrow even if you're dead. Tracksuit bottoms aren't going to sell themselves.

No way can you stay 2 metres apart on a building site
I could lose my business but prefer that than know I’d possibly lost a good worker and friend through making them go work

I just wonder what the viewing level was for that "announcement". I reckon that it would beat the Queen's speech hands down. It must have been on a par with the "We are now at war with Germany" speech. We all waited in anticipation, with bated breath, ready to gasp at the news. Maybe a few tears might be shed, but bravely brushed aside with the thoughts of what might be ahead ....
What did we get? I haven't a clue, what did we get?
Ok "Stay at home". Well not far behind "wash you're hands and sing Happy Birthday".
I cannot somehow see our Boris coming out of this covered in glory.

Would love for MilanStokie to give us his thoughts on this. The situation he is in is harrowing from his posts on here but they have given an unbelievable first hand account of life in Italy and his comments on this would be hugely appreciated! 🙏 Tbh mate it's not too dissimilar to how lockdown started in italy. Although Conte is far superior communicator. I am predicting that tomorrow the majority of companies across the UK will have a different directive than what came across tonight. Action will be taken and the decision taken out of most employers hands. Working from home or percentage pay to stay at home or whatever alternative is available. The worse the death toll gets (and I'm sorry but it will get massive in about 5 days) the decree will change on a daily basis until the military are fully deployed like they are here and in Spain. I don't get why UK can't just go full throttle lockdown now and it all has to be gradual, but I guess every country has done it the same way. Just needs some patience and see how it develops tomorrow and throughout the week. The message is clear though, stay at home... Excellent mate thank you for commenting. Fingers crossed still for yourself and family out there and all of your community 🤞 Please keep up the posts, I can understand it may be difficult at times but it gives us all a clear understanding of what to expect.

He could argue he's a supplier of sports equipment which is essential to the health and well being of the nation Sports have been banned haven’t they? Essentially anyway. Running shoes, treadmills, home gym equipment, outdoor activity sets, trampolines, bicycles, scooters, skateboards etc. etc.

I'm still no clear what the end game is?
I appreciate ministers are banned from even whispering the words 'herd immunity' but attempting to flatten the peak of the initial curve of the virus so it does not crash the NHS is simply playing for time.
