So can you just go out for a spin in the car or on a motor cycle providing you don’t stop anywhere?...

I have been totally supportive of our Govt so far. I awaited in anticipation at 8:30pm tonight. I expected some crystal clear directives of what was expected, and what was going to happen.
Instead? What a total fucking arse they have made of it all. We will need another Churchillian broadcast tomorrow, just to clear up the ambiguities from the one tonight.
What a fuck up.

Watch it again he literally says You must stay at home..... What people want if for him to identify which businesses are allowed to stay open and which are not. They want the decision to be made by the Government to prevent ambiguity. As I have said before you can have businesses that arent essential but might be something essential in limited circumstances. Its on us all ask yourself is me going to work going to save someones life or help someone else save someones life if its a No, Stay at Home.

Spot on. Just said the same to my kids. It's the boss who decides. If not.. you are in breach of your employment contract. I'm tried my best to explain this to people. Unless there is a gov law then that's the way it is. So just to confirm, businesses are allowed to define themselves essential or not? I wouldn't bother mate. I asked three fucking times if i was allowed to go to the Offie. No reply.

But if the businesses themselves are deciding, it's not upto you the worker to decide. If your boss deems his company to be essential, then you are expected in. For example, Sports Direct have said they will be open tomorrow. They don't fall into any of the categories above, but their workers will be expected in. I thought i heard clothing, retail and electrical were told to close? If SportDirect feel they are essential then Ashley is a bigger cock than i gave him credit for. If i worked at the store i'd be staying home tomorrow regardless of what he says. If he sacked me, I'd be seeing him in Court. You'd probably lose if you went to court. Ashley is following government instructions - he's not actually doing anything wrong in the eyes of the law.

The word "essential" has taken on a life of it's own. Boris said "necessary" as regards work. Until the Gov. places law directives onto businesses then this could be very liberal and open to abuse. I feel sorry for the employers and the employees. Christ knows where this is going.

Despite breaking advice to stay at home, my wife just ran to the post box to post a birthday card. She ran back. Fortunately she managed to escape the attention of the eight police officers that are on duty in the city of Coventry tonight.
Phew. Exciting isn't it?

Well as far as I can see, I should be able to go to the Co Op tomorrow and buy some essentials. Bread, Milk, Butter .... if I hide the whisky under the loaf, I should be ok when stopped and questioned by the police. If you find any of those items let me know and il swap ya for a 4 pack of bog roll

From what i heard it included retail. I would love to hear that fat fuck's argument on why selling trainers is essential EDIT - HotterPotter's post seems to have a list and it includes retail. Should be closed as of tonight.

Until the Gov. places law directives onto businesses then this could be very liberal and open to abuse. I feel sorry for the employers and the employees. Christ knows where this is going. "2. CLOSING NON-ESSENTIAL SHOPS AND PUBLIC SPACES Last week, the Government ordered certain businesses - including pubs, cinemas and theatres - to close. The Government is now extending this requirement to a further set of businesses and other venues, including: ● all non-essential retail stores - this will include clothing and electronics stores; hair, beauty and nail salons; and outdoor and indoor markets, excluding food markets." Doesn't that mean they have to close by law? I was talking about construction, manufacturing, engineering and the like.

I must have seen this coming managing to get 4 weeks off work this morning because my job is most definitely not essential so I'd be in total limbo now. It's a complete mess.

He did not say that at all. He literally talked about ventilators, other health services being overwhelmed best way to avoid spreading it. "From this evening I must give the british people a very simple instruction, You must stay at home." I dont know just reading between the lines there but I think that means stay at home. The work stuff contradicted it all.

Would love for MilanStokie to give us his thoughts on this. The situation he is in is harrowing from his posts on here but they have given an unbelievable first hand account of life in Italy and his comments on this would be hugely appreciated! 🙏 Tbh mate it's not too dissimilar to how lockdown started in italy. Although Conte is far superior communicator. I am predicting that tomorrow the majority of companies across the UK will have a different directive than what came across tonight. Action will be taken and the decision taken out of most employers hands. Working from home or percentage pay to stay at home or whatever alternative is available. The worse the death toll gets (and I'm sorry but it will get massive in about 5 days) the decree will change on a daily basis until the military are fully deployed like they are here and in Spain. I don't get why UK can't just go full throttle lockdown now and it all has to be gradual, but I guess every country has done it the same way. Just needs some patience and see how it develops tomorrow and throughout the week. The message is clear though, stay at home...

Fair post, but on the point on being essential. If it proves to be true that businesses are to decide themselves if they are classed as "essential" - then it gets bloody confusing doesn't it? For me its about common sense: - are you a health worker? - are you in the police force? - are you manufacturing much needed medical supplies to combat this chaos? - are you working in a supermarket/pharmacy? All of the above are essential. But he said go to work if you can’t do it from him. It wasn’t about essential work. Or key work.

Morrison’s guaranteeing next day delivery of essentials if you order before 3pm but you only get a choice of meat vs vegetarian. This will be the norm by the end of the week. Can you point us in the right direction March? Just signed up to Morrisons, punched in my address, clicked delivery slot and the website said none available. BTW, this isn't for me, but is for two separate old and vulnerable people. Cheers. Seen it on Twitter a couple of times tonight but not tried it myself. Sounds like a cracking idea if it works. They are going to be using external delivery companies and I don’t think you can choose the exact time for delivery. Every parcel will be enough to feed two people for a week.
