Take construction workers.
We have around 20-30 people moving in this Friday.
They could be homeless if they don’t move in if they’ve given notice on their rental home.
Is this essential?
I’d say people being homeless probably is.

Agreed but what did Boris just tell a bricky to do ... should he turn up at the site tomorrow or not? Stay at home unless you are working on a hospital or something like that for safety I'd say. That's pretty definitive. Why didn't he say that in the first place and save all the confusion for the last hour?

I work in isolation but can't work from home.
To be fair have hardly seen a soul on the way here tonight , just 2 ambulances parked up with lights flashing and is a 35 mile journey.

To be honest mate if they can’t only Denise and the family have themselves to blame for that given the money they’ve got. I’ve geniunely sat at home in my underpants and taken live 999 calls so if somebody can do that but somebody can’t run a betting operation in 2020 remotely then something’s gone wrong. Loads of people don't have computers at home mate, there's no way you can expect Denise to make sure that they have, just in case something like this might happen. That’s the thing though they don’t need a computer at home. The worlds largest betting company could have and probably should have issued all employees with laptops. To be honest if I was in charge of bet 365s IT my business continuity manager would swinging from the nearest tree for not suggesting it (assuming they hadn’t)

For example, you've got somebody who works in customer service and a customer phones up bet365 from Mumbai complaining about an issue with their bet. How do you route that call to the customer services rep, and provide the rep with access to the account of the person? All calls have to be recorded, all live chat has to be recorded. If an issue needs to be escalated to a supervisor, then that it isn't possible. The level of software that bet365 use is absolutely massive. And that's before you realise that many of their employees don't even have a computer at home. Just out of interest anybody any idea what on earth anyone would be betting on at the moment?

The exact line is: “travelling to and from work, but only when this is absolutely necessary and cannot be done from home” No mention of essential work, or otherwise. Is it necessary to support your family?

Why didn't he say that in the first place and save all the confusion for the last hour? So that confirms my initial questions. The only people to travel to work are key workers. He didn't really say that in his address though, and left it wide open.

Its not possible to give a 100% definitive answer tbough is it, like someone says below builders not essential but if they are finishing off a house for someone to move into next week if they dont then that person or family could be homeless.

Because of the vagueness of it all employers of none essential staff who've turned up to work when the employer knows they can't practice safe distancing etc in the work environment are going to have to make some tough decisions tomorrow. The government however should be the ones making this decision. They need to be dig deep and cover the wages of literally all none essentials to stay at home. The essential workers should also be imbursed as why should they miss out. It's the only way to truly lockdown the country best we can. Imight be being a bit thick here but hasn't he already announced measures to help businesses and employers if they have to shut down. Apart from the poor old self employed.

So that settles it then I guess? Well, I shall be dropping some emails to my new work place tomorrow to see what the crack is. Whether they will take me on now or set me as furloughed till a time I can properly starts remains to be seen. What a situation we all find ourselves in.

This is an absolute clusterfuck of comms.
The twitter saying key workers only, The PM saying only if you can’t work from home and the online publication not clarifying and repeating the PM’s words.
If you want a Churchill comparison it’s like him saying “we will never not not surrender.”

Yeah, not really definitive. I’m working from home in isolation anyway but we have containers due for the next five working days, including tomorrow. Do people go in and see if the drivers arrive with the containers or what? Understand it’s hard to be company specific in all aspects but should we be there or not?

The myanmar national league and table tennis, I'd say if people were that desperate they'd have an online account and no need to phone a bet in. On line casinos (along with porn hub) are seeing record traffic as more and more people 'work' from home. It's not making up for the shortfall in sports betting but its something. Denise will still get her dividend
