Well out in the car in Kidsgrove this morning I spotted two young ladies waving vigorously at the car about 50 yards in front of me. As i got within 10 yards of them I noticed they were wearing Christmas jumpers as I smiled at them we both exchanged a wave. Shit times but there are some people making a real effort to put some happiness out there, 10 out of 10 to them From tomorrows Sentinel Two women from Kidsgrove have spoke of their horror at being kidnapped on Christmas Day and held in captivity until they managed to escape yesterday. One of the women went on to say, "what made it worse was we ran across a field to flag down motorists, but the daft cunts just kept peeping at us"

Anyone else dreading this address to the nation tonight?
If it's lockdown then be prepared to see a scrum to end all scrums at supermarkets, petrol stations and so forth.
I'm personally dreading it.

Has anyone seen data for the rate of infection in Liverpool?
There's some belief that one of the factors that accelerated the problem in Bergamo was when 40,000 people travelled to Milan to watch their side play Valencia in the Champions League. That was on 19th Feb, and Liverpool played in front of a packed house as late as 11th March.

I hope the 'big news' tonight from Johnson also includes help for the self-employed. Not only have they got the virus to worry about, many of them are on their arses financially. Bloody scandalous!

OS. My wife has lost 2/3 of her income today and now has only 1 client left. One, seemingly can't pay her for March work and instead of paying the £600 owed, has offered her £200 in full and final settlement.

OS. I read today that help is on it's way - they are just firming up the details ..... They are not going to ignore our "nation of shopkeepers" - let's face it, it is far easier to sort out plans that involve people under PAYE. Those people have employers - so pass the help down to the employers, who then distribute to the employees. (Shut the fuck up momo).
Having said that - over many years the self employed do get the "sticky end" of the stick when being unable to work through ill health. As do home owners (with a mortgage) in comparison to people who rent.
I anticipate satisfaction for SE folks is on the way. At least I friggin hope so - I am one of them.

I do think that there has been less of the nastiness on this thread than other more overtly political ones, ( really) a credit to us Stokies. That's how it should be if we have differing opinions. I think most of us realise the possible gravity of the situation , at heart ( as someone else has said) the virus does not have a political slant , we are all in it together and the success of any strategy depends upon everyone working together.

I know self employed folk are not all the same, but the plumber that does my house(He’s also Stoke(it seems we are ghettoising)) turns over £1m a year. He’s not bleating away. He’s currently hold up in his holiday home at Ile de Rey or what the £@#& it’s called.

Shouldn't be that much harder to work something out, you do your returns, they know how much you earn....or at least they know how much you tell them you earn

For every one of "those" types, there are many thousands of other tradesmen and SE people (many professional types - they foresee business drying up in the next two weeks or so. Not all of them are handsomely rich! Many of them do indeed feel a duty of care to those that they employ.) that really cannot see how they are going to provide for their families.

I despair with some people
Some people have been posting this clip and, no word of a lie, have had people actually retweeting a brawl between Stone Cold Steve Austin and Booker T in a supermarket on WWF Raw as a real fight in ASDA. It's arguably one of the funniest moments in WWF history. "Price check on jackass".
