Only 154 new cases in the UK today - is that correct? That seems way too low. I'm fairly sure one area of the UK (maybe Scotland?) releases numbers earlier than the rest, and that is sometimes added to the UK before the other numbers are released. I've made the same mistake as you a couple of times.

Update in Italy: 602 dead today. It is perhaps dropping so hopefully starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel! I'm a little bit hesitant to start celebrating just yet, as I told myself that I'd want a week of the numbers either levelling out or dropping before I get carried away - however, excellent news none-the-less. Hope it is doing good for your mental health as well. Much like yourself towards the end of last week everything felt really grim to me. Looking slightly better at the moment.

This virus is like a runaway train heading straight for us. We need to get everyone off the tracks quickly even by force if necessary. Simply put. Ignore at your peril.

What are the associated costs of the highest grade PPE and what is the legislation surrounding our need for it? I keep reading that people are slating the government for a lack of PPE, across all form of media, but it gets me wondering that how viable is it for a government of a country like ours to stockpile the highest grade PPE just incase we suffer wide scale destruction of a pandemic to the like that we've never seen before in our lifetime? The fact we can't get hold of them at the rate we need them now, even though we're prepared to pay, smacks of a bigger issue to me. One thing that needs to come out of this is the abandonment of the ridiculous notion that this country is a service providing country only, and not a manufacturing country. Something that was sadly set in stone many, many years ago. One problem that isn't being mentioned anywhere is that PPE has a USEBY date, so stockpiling for the incase scenario is neither practical or cost effective. That is not an excuse for not ramping up stockpiles in the last couple of months when the picture was becoming clear that we were heading for a shit show

Your kind of point was earlier made in the HoC. Don't know who raised it, but the response was a rather sarcastic "i will send you a poster" Who said "I'll send you a poster" Henry? Caroline Lucas made the point. Not very good at linky things but this was her reply on twitter

New York update - leaving the house to step inside a grocery store is fairly terrifying, we have very tight aisles, tough to stay 6ft away from other shoppers but thankfully not many people out. Deliveries still fine - all left one floor down for me to pick up. I can hear the neighbors arguing non-stop, lovely.
And daily disbelief when I turn on SKY News and there is still no mandated self-isolate in the UK - unf*ing real. Stay safe everyone.

We've gone into this crisis with every public service on its knees and a social safety net with nothing but holes in it. Anyone who says this isnt political clearly hasnt spent the last ten years trying to counter the lies and obfuscation that helped make us so vulnerable. I don't really blame Jonhson and Cummings for their human deficiencies now so much as I blame their ideology for the mess the country in when trying to tackle it. Bayern and sheikh want to rip your clothes off Dont come to me with your fantasies. I defended Johnson and Cummings in my post. They are limited humans constrained by an ideology so unfit for this situation its excruciating to watch.

You'd have to have been living under a rock to not find out all the advice that's been given. It's already all out there on the news, internet, radio it's literally the only story out there and everyone knows what they should and should not be doing. Unfortunately for us the problem is were a nation of selfish shit bags who always think we know better than the advice given and just carry on regardless. The problem is not getting the message out there as it's already rammed down our throats the problem is how to get the selfish wankers to follow simple instructions. The advice is all over the place. Rog made this post earlier. Funny how those saying the information is not clear are absolutely clear what advice is being ignored. We've all heard it a thousand times. Wash your hands regularly for at least 20 seconds with soap and water. Don't touch your face. Avoid unnecessary travel. If you can work from home do so. If you're not on the 'essential workers' list keep your kids out of school. If you have any of the COVID19 symptoms particularly a consistent dry cough and/or high temperature however mild you should self isolate for 7 days alone or 14 days as a family/housemates. Over 70's and those on the vulnerable list are to stay in and should be shielded from others. If family members/neighbours can provide supplies and medicines then great. If not there are designated slots from certain stores to shop at certain times. This is not perfect. PHE have identified 1.5m people who will receive a letter this week telling them why and how they should self isolate for 12 weeks. Their medicines and packages of essential food will be delivered coordinated by PHE, supermarkets and delivery services, possibly including the military. We can go out but must keep 2 metres/6ft from anyone if you're living alone. If you're a couple or a family you can be together but keep 2 metres/6ft from anybody not in your family group. if you do have symptoms view 111.NHS.uk for advice. If you deteriorate called 111. Don't panic buy. I've watched every press briefing but I haven't seen the over 70's being told to stay in. There's nothing on the government website saying that the over 70's should stay in. There's nothing on the government website about keeping 2 metres from anyone when you're outside either. www.gov.uk/government/publications/covid-19-guidance-on-social-distancing-and-for-vulnerable-people/guidance-on-social-distancing-for-everyone-in-the-uk-and-protecting-older-people-and-vulnerable-adultsI'm confused and I'm actively seeking advice! There really does need to be accurate public information being broadcast from every quarter. The advice form the Government has been fluctuating and that is in reflected in the response. I.e people not taking it seriously. Yes, it has needed to change but a week ago they were saying it was ok if everybody got it, or at least that was how it was being interpreted. I still don't think people are taking it seriously but words like 'we advise'..... are just not working. I think people think the Government are going to say something different tomorrow so lets just carry on. We have dragged our heels and been too casual, because of the fear of the impact on businesses when Italy showed the way this was going to go. The directives on schools was ambiguous, drawn out and confusing. Now we are in Panic mode. Italy figures will give some hope but we are way off their response. We are still letting people in the country without checks and nurses are dying from lack of protection.

Well out in the car in Kidsgrove this morning I spotted two young ladies waving vigorously at the car about 50 yards in front of me. As i got within 10 yards of them I noticed they were wearing Christmas jumpers as I smiled at them we both exchanged a wave. Shit times but there are some people making a real effort to put some happiness out there, 10 out of 10 to them
