Is 150,000 posts too much of a target? No idea how many I’m on now, I can’t see it. Feels like a lot more

Are garden centres and post offices open? If so why? I'd like to go to both but that would be irresponsible wouldn't it....so therefore won't....I'd like the Oatcake opinion on that.....but if it is irresponsible....why are they open? Post offices provide a fair amount of banking and financial services and the local one I use is also a food store. They are important to a lot of elderly people since the banks have closed down en masse. What gets me though Cedric , there's no simple answer...some people agree with total isolation, want the government to tell us what to do, criticise the government for not locking everything down , but are justifying risk taking in some circumstances. We are either isolating or not.

The intensity of this situation is building. You can even sense it happening on this MB. Our resident trolls continue "business as usual", but even ignoring them, the size of this mess is finally striking home for a few more each day. I mean no disrespect to the newcomers that have finally seen the size of the mess that we are in - the important thing is that you have eventually seen it.
Condescending post? Well yes it is.

This thread is surreal.. Non-essential workers are going in tomorrow??? Family get togethers for Mothers Day?? WTF ?? Everyone one of those putting my family more at risk.
Some of you long time posters will remember when I went through Katrina in 2005.. I never thought I would go through something like that again but here it is and its wayyyyy worse.. its like I can see the flood that will KILL 1,000s headed to my home town and there is nothing I can do about it.
A huge thank you to those who self isolating and the brave people on the front line - heroes in our lifetime.

So Bayern , it's your view that we should not be visiting them.....irrespective of government advice( I'm just trying to get clarification) Until they are forced to close then you choose to go.. against the advice of most people. As long as you're aware that going could lead to you be infected or worse yet, passing it onto someone else and ultimately being responsible for their death. Up to you if you want to take the risk and if that's something you potentially want on your conscience. Exactly. So whilst it's an individual decision presumably the most responsible of us will abide by the rules whilst others won't. Either we are isolating or not. And if we include the crowds at shops , in reality we are not isolating. Should ALL shopping be online?

That’s why this is political. I’m lucky I can work from home but even that was delayed a week too late for my liking but I was told I had to go in, no excuses. The government have been a shambles.

The only solution is probably going to be total lock down Tarquin with the army on the streets but the moaners will still moan after all it's the inalienable right of every man....and woman

It's not so much the closing down of businesses that is the problem, so long as every conceivable precaution is taken to stop the spread of the virus, it's these fucking idiots who have descended on Snowdon this weekend, in their fucking thousands, putting the health and lives of the local population at risk. Being part of a managerial team working for Tesco in the area, I put myself at risk everyday I go to work. It's been absolute bedlam this past few weeks. I'm not going to go on about panic buying, cos that topics been done to death. It's just the sheer fucking ignorance and selfishNess of people, who think they have the right to do whatever they want, even though their mindless fucking actions put the health and wellbeing of the whole country at risk. Time for Boris to grow a pair and put ban on all recreational travel, including holidays, throughout the whole country.

Post offices provide an essential service don’t they? Garden centres are a bit dull 😁 Not necessarily, Are post offices really needed. Why?....handling over parcels...although I'm trying to get a present to a ( Muslim) friend's unusual wedding. Gardening can be very therapeutic and it is something that you can do while confined....growing veg may be a good thing...Dig for victory.🙃 I believe many old people still draw their pension from the Post Office.

General question (and no not for a friend!)
If people have to isolate and are advised to use friends/family to get shopping in, how are they paying for the stuff? We all have a few quid in the house but when that runs out? Give a friend your card? Let them pay then do a bank transfer? How does this work in practice?

There are always people who have a problem with the responsibility bit.
Some can be infected and aware of it, and still say "they have a choice, there is always a choice, they shouldn't be in the same shop, the same bus or in the same elevator - now when I'm a bit dizzy and sneeze right at them. It's their own fault!"
I've actually heard this. Several times. Unfortunately.

www.buzzfeed.com/alexwickham/boris-johnson-coronavirus-lockdown-cabinet-mutinyBoris Johnson faces a "full scale mutiny" from his cabinet and senior aides if he does not enforce a lockdown of London including restrictions on non-essential travel. Cabinet ministers and aides want the prime minister to bring in French or Italian-style lockdown measures in the next 24 hours — requiring people to demonstrate that they have a good reason to leave their homes — after seeing data that showed the UK is on a trajectory towards as many deaths per day as Italy is currently experiencing.

That’s fine but people still have to go to work to logistically get that stuff to you. Lockdown isn’t an option for most.
