Just seen a breakdown of today’s figures. We are at exactly the same point that Italy were two weeks ago. If anything we are accelerating slightly faster. Now everyone is used to restrictions, we need to tighten it up further. No shops open other than approved food shops and pharmacies. Complete restriction on non-essential travel with permits required. Assigned food shop to every household and no shopping elsewhere. It is also time that MoD were more involved with medical support and transportation. The figures are horrible but I do think that for the next week this will be London Centric, Wolverhampton and Liverpool will also become problematic, shutting down all non essential retail outlets and services is fine but most of the manufacturers left in this country are essential to supply chains, it's very intricate for example you may think that making a box isn't important but without the box the foodstuffs can't be put on the shelf or even transported, without the paper, ink or the adhesive the box can't be made, without the tape it can't be sealed and without a pallet it can't be moved. Every industry you would consider to be essential relies on several other industries behind it to make it work. Once it all stops it will be difficult to restart in a uniform manner. We need to push the going to work ethic as far as we can as long as we can make it safe. You can't bring a cow or a potato field to Asda and serve it to the public. If we are going to feed the nation risks will have to be taken.

Imperial College medics suggesting London now needs to be isolated from the rest of the country plus restricted movement between regions other than London. Seems sensible to me. That was sensible a week ago. They're on about containment but people still moving around the country

If we are going to feed the nation risks will have to be taken. I’m only talking non essential shops. We don’t need B&Q, Dorothy Perkins, Debenhams, etc. As you say manufacturing business is trickier. It will take someone much cleverer than me to sort that out. I do feel that we need to do more and more to keep folk apart.

Can’t see this happening. Boris needs to start turning the taps off there, the underground can’t be helping and I know it moves the key workers about but if the numbers are spiralling. I went for a run this morning and saw a handful of 70 plus people on the tram up here in Manchester, the mad bastards.

Just seen data that the Citymapper app has collected showing 31% of Londoners are still moving around. It is 8% or less in other major cities across Europe.
London needs shutting down quickly otherwise it is going to get horrific.

Still think the living wage would've been better! I know what you mean mate but the fact is that people tend to live to the maximum of their means regardless of their income. A family Losing their £200,000 home is every bit as sad as family losing their £90,000 home. The government clearly want everyone on a reasonable income to be able to keep their heads above water and to have a job to go back to if at all possible. I have been amazed but happy with the governments response to be honest. I guess when this is all over we will all have to pay more tax but the effort right now to save jobs, homes and lives is worth it. IMO it also helps to prevent against looting and other major civil disruption which would leave us in a apocalyptic like situation. Good points, but as Old Clem alluded to, it feels like the rich protecting the rich, and the less well off will probably suffer more with higher tax post-corona. Maybe mortgage + living wage would have been a good compromise. Bailing everything out all the time just encourages us to continue as we are, over consumption using up resources, constantly aiming to increase profits, unsustainably grow the economy etc.

1 week ago the average age of deaths in Italy was 89. Yesterday it was 80 Today it is 78. People need to stop thinking it is ONLY the old and vulnerable.

Is that it ok I bow to your superior intelligence, I will have to accept your version that some Chinese bloke fancied an illegal bat for his tea from an illegal "fish market" has led to a virus threatening the lives of billons of people all over the planet, of course the Chinese communist government who lied, oppressed and arrested their own scientific experts then covered up this" virus" allowed their infected people to travel all over the World infecting others are in no way involved in this pandemic at all, actually thinking about your version..... no fcuk that none of it makes sense at all, if it walks like a duck quacks like a duck it's most likely a ........ fecking duck .....duck, don't confuse" intelligence" for common sense son.

Why so many dead in Italy? Aging populous? Contact from the youth? Is this facing us in a week or two? Truly sad and terrifying. God rest those souls. Read back the last few pages if you didn't already. I don't think Italy is an anomaly. Spain look to be accelerating faster and I fear they may overtake Italy. UK looks to have very similar numbers to Italy but with a 14 day gap. However Italy has been on lockdown now for 12 days, schools closed over a month ago and UK are still sitting on their arses. It could get very messy, particularly around London.

Are the airports still open in UK? Yes mate they are. for now All airports are closed in Egypt nearly 1 week ago. Although people tend to go out 24/24 here, everything close now at 6 PM. I am expecting the military to control after 1-2 days and prevent everyone from going out of their home. We had only 10 deaths till now, if the virus spread in Egypt it will kill much more than Italy and entire Europe so they are taking early steps to prevent this from happening, the only thing that we rely on is strong herd immunity of the people here, but who knows ! i wish if we dont test it.

Me too but they are sending aid here there and everywhere which feels a strange thing to do if they’re struggling. I can’t work out how they’re dealing with the risk of a second spike, they’re apparently opening things back up which could take them back to square one.

They are over celebrating which makes me worry about how true what they say, it looks like they want to send a fake message, I am not sure. I have been there once, and i believe the gov. there can change any facts and no one can talk. Another worrying thing is that, in Hong Kong they discovered a 2nd case of Corona in pet dog in human to animal transmission.

I'm saying that microbiologists and virologists know more about a fucking virus than you or me tbh. The scientists who sequenced the virus and the ones that wrote the correspondence above are independent, nothing to do with China. 'It walks like a duck...' - it would literally show on its genomic makeup if it's been tampered with or edited by human gene-editing mechanisms. Don't confuse arrogance with wisdom son.

My bio friends tell me it checks out and I believe them. It's not impossible that there was a Chinese lab that was mushing together a load of random animals, but it seems way more likely it was from animals and people mixing too closely. Just like SARS, MERS, swine flu, bird flu...
