I honestly feel worried for the US population mate, a seriously divided nation, different states doing different things, a healthcare system that doesn't work and a fraud of a president. Then mix panic buying with gun ownership ! I really wouldn't want to live there. You can slag the Tory's off on the NHS if you want and you may have a point but they are 1 healthcare system and from what I can see right now they have dedicated staff who are working together and preparing to go to war on a large scale, it won't matter if you are unemployed or on a hundred grand year the same criteria will apply to both. It will never be for sale because it is priceless! Good post. We have a lot to be thankful for in this country with our NHS. A socialist entity that has the people at it's heartbeat. Let us pray to whichever god you believe in that they can keep the lid on this... Being a divided country where each state is taking its decision is a valid concern, but US has the best healthcare system in the world, however, when outbreaks go wild no healthcare system can contain it.

I know what you mean mate but the fact is that people tend to live to the maximum of their means regardless of their income. A family Losing their £200,000 home is every bit as sad as family losing their £90,000 home. The government clearly want everyone on a reasonable income to be able to keep their heads above water and to have a job to go back to if at all possible. I have been amazed but happy with the governments response to be honest. I guess when this is all over we will all have to pay more tax but the effort right now to save jobs, homes and lives is worth it. IMO it also helps to prevent against looting and other major civil disruption which would leave us in a apocalyptic like situation. Mortgage holiday. Then everyone on a living wage? The rich wouldn't vote for that either. Do you really think this is about votes? Either way hopefully everyones bills get paid and hopefully have a job to go back to. The end result is the same. The world will be a completely different place in 5 Years time, I doubt Johnson will run again let alone get elected. He has always been a big a Churchill fan and this is his war, look what happened to Churchill in the election after the war.

If you think a Healthcare system that has purposefully made millions of people addicted to opioids is the worlds best then good luck to you! I agree that there isn't a healthcare system in the world who is prepared for this.

We do this together or we will fail!

The stats that we are given really don't make a great deal of sense, do they? Germany, what is going on there? Italy is a modern European country (India and Africa lag behind somewhat, on all counts). Different methods of reporting surely must explain some of the anomalies.
It looks like the death rate is about 1% if your hospitals are all ok (S Korea is now at 1.2%, looks like it might go a little higher), but as soon as you get overwhelmed it's more like 4%. Massive, horrible difference in how bad this gets depending on how many have it in the same place at the same time. Just a bit of "an aside" - how are things going on your side of the pond with good old Captain Trump at the helm?
You seem to have a great deal to say about how our Govt are managing things.

Just seen a breakdown of today’s figures.
We are at exactly the same point that Italy were two weeks ago.
If anything we are accelerating slightly faster.
Now everyone is used to restrictions, we need to tighten it up further. No shops open other than approved food shops and pharmacies. Complete restriction on non-essential travel with permits required. Assigned food shop to every household and no shopping elsewhere.
It is also time that MoD were more involved with medical support and transportation.

The lid is already off thanks to a communist entity that has repression and deception as it's heartbeat, the rest of the World is now trying to limit the effects of their incompetence and down right disregard for humanity, where are the ER protestations about the real threat to human extinction ?

Intruding into the discussion.. Regarding your comment. A few weeks ago a work colleague of mine suggested that Italy have got more cases because if their cultural practice of kiss kiss and hug. I laughed it off a couple of weeks ago. Now..I'm wondering.

I'm beyond pissed off at how Trump's handled things so far. Lying for weeks to prop up the stock market so that his allies could make out nicely, while hamstringing the response. I can't tell whether the whole fuckup is intentional or incompetence. Lots and lots more people are going to die now, and my girlfriend's hospital just got their first confirmed case so it's possible she's needlessly going to go through hell in the coming months. Enough to make you right pissed off it is

I think maybe people should avoid social media. A lovely morning today, went for a walk along the canal network, acknowledged a few others from a safe distance. Got home, washed the car and did a few jobs in the garden. Did a Face Time thingy with family. Cooked tea and watched a couple of things on Netflix with a beer before logging onto the oatcake and reading the Coronavirus thread, fuck me I'm going back to Netflix. Fear breeds panic and social media just breeds fear. Everyone should know by now how to reduce the risks of Coronavirus, without the ignorant input of bar room experts. See you all when things are back to normal.

It's got the best healthcare system in the world if you are earning 40k USD upwards. lol I'm on more than that and my health insurance gurgles ballsack. I have to pay the first $1500 of healthcare each year before it even kicks in, and that's after my employer is already paying something like $5-6k/year and my taxes go to Medicare and Medicaid. I've seen nothing that shows the healthcare is even better quality than my NHS experiences, although so far I've only had a sprained ankle and a few concussions. The only difference is that you have to be really on your guard to pay attention and turn down most of the things they try and do, since you'll get a massive bill for them. I have a couple of mates I played footy with who've ve had major health problems because they couldn't afford to go see a doctor before things got bad, too. If you're very rich or very lucky with insurance I'd totally believe you can get the best care in the US. It's not for people like me and my mates though.

Similar spread rate and fatality rate to Spanish flu, which probably evolved naturally from farms in Kansas. The genetic analysis shows it's very similar to bat and pangolin coronaviruses, and this sort of evolution happens all the time.

I can't agree with most of that. How many pandemics have there been that affected our country? Spanish Flu? Are we actually allowed to still call it "Spanish Flu"? Apparently Chinese Corona is a bit off colour.
I probably agree that this whole business could well be being "played down" to avoid panic. I mean spreading panic to the whole nation - not just the bog roll hoarders.

The Spanish flu originated somewhere in northern China in late 1917 and swiftly moved to western Europe with the introduction of 140,000 Chinese labourers

The pneumonia death last week of China’s real epidemic hero, the ophthalmologist Li Wenliang, has revealed the ugliest side of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and its terrible effort to rewrite the history of a seemingly out-of-control epidemic. Li treated patients in December in Wuhan, where the outbreak originated, who looked like SARS cases, he told colleagues on Dec. 30 via a doctors’ social media chatroom. Days later, for the so-called crime of rumormongering, Li and seven other physicians were brought before China’s security police and compelled to sign a document admitting to “spreading lies.” For days, Wuhan authorities sought to stifle Li’s voice, but even after he caught the virus while treating his patients and was confined to an intensive care unit bed, he continued to sound epidemic alarms on the BBC World Service. On Feb. 6, the once-robust 34-year-old physician died. Li’s death opened the gates of political rage across China, sparking an unprecedented outpouring of grief and outrage, denouncing the government cover-up.
