Brexit? Sorry, couldn't resist. But to respond to the histrionics of these images, vaccinations help people avoid being infected in the first place by reducing illness and transmission. And even if people who have been vaccinated can still transmit the virus, the effects of the illness are lessened so the impacts on the NHS and society in general are also reduced. We're not far off 10% of the population vaccinated, stop the overreacting! It's a pandemic. Hundreds of thousands of people die in pandemics and society is always affected. It's tragic for the individuals and their families and devastating for the world economy and society in general. Do some research into previous pandemics! Why people think we should be able to sail through this one without the same impacts is just odd. Even odder is pretending it's all not real just because for some reason you can't accept that sometimes something as small as a microbe can still wreak havoc in a species as supposedly advanced and intelligent as our own!

It's. A. Pandemic. There's always death, there's always collateral damage. Obviously you're not happy with the extent of the collateral damage. However, you were quite happy to crow about ignoring the government's rules over Christmas, and now you're bleating about collateral damage. Go figure!

It's bizarre how the "new" Guardian reading white, middle class, snobby illiberal left seem to be absolutely lapping up the totalitarian measures, big tech censorship, seizing civil liberties and obliterating an economy that will absolutely hit the most vulnerable in society over the wealthy and the big corporates.
But as we've learnt in recent times - the new left is at one with big corporates, working from home on big salaries, sat on their high horse, sipping their soy latte and supporting the cancelling of anything that dares questions the logic of covid lockdowns - they now refer to the masses as "gammon".
It's just yet another staggering example of this sinister movement holding the working class masses with the utmost contempt while they side with everything the old left used to despise.
These are fucking weird times.

This, incidentally, was the precise rearguard action tried by Neville Chamberlain

These are fucking weird times. It’s a consequence of applying normal political rules in abnormal times. Meaning, the opposition adopt a position they see as scoring most points of the Government. So, an attack along the lines of not being hard enough on lockdown makes perfect sense. There was a possibility of a different approach, which Starmer took for about 48 hours last Autumn when he started to challenge the Government on providing the evidence to support the actions they were taking. But he abandoned that quite promptly in favour of trying to score political points. So, what we have are Governments across the UK making massive decisions without having to provide justification and opposition complaining that everything is too little, too late. The consequence is we are being failed by our politicians of all colours.

Starmer's position is cringe worthy - "Let's encourage Boris to go even more totalitarian on already totalitarian measures, while racking up even more debt with even more hand outs". Yeah because that's gonna win over small business owners and the most vulnerable in society.

And here's the usual other approach - when your own preferred government is shown to be incompetent, be sure to bring in either an imaginary government of the other type doing just as badly (or more likely worse!) or hint that it's really the Opposition's fault for being complicit or just not a very good Opposition (despite being delighted with an 80 seat majority just 12 months ago)

Starmer is the son of a nurse and a toolmaker (there's an opportunity...!) who passed his 11+ and went to a grammar school, then Leeds University. Sounds pretty normal to me, and not quite in the silver-spoon privileged upbringing you're envisaging, or is it a case of he's a politician so by default you think that's the case?

We should be receiving more good news in the next couple of weeks when the results of the Novavax vaccine trials are known.
There's currently 15,000 people in phase 3 trials in the UK and over 25% of them are over 65 and a lot clinically vulnerable.
And more good news is that it's manufactured in Stockton on Tees primarily for UK use and we've got an order in for 60 million doses.

Come on though mate let's not pretend Starmer is remotely connected to the real world. He's about as close to the working man in Rotherham as Hugh Grant. How do you know?! He grew up in an obviously working class family with a parent who was ill for most of her life. I doubt whether it was the upbringing of cushy, money-laden comfort and security you'd love to imagine in order to lump him in with every other silver-spoon toff. Clearly, he moves in different circles now owing to his job, but I'd have more confidence in him giving much of a shit about ordinary folk than Bluffer, Rees-Mogg and half of the Cabinet, whose privileged upbringings are there for all to see!
