What are they expecting from people exactly? There's very little we can do and bar an East German Stasi-like authority it's going to be extremely difficult to get complete compliance. 1/3rd of current Covid deaths are in care homes and a quarter of infections are occurring in hospital settings. There's not a lot the general population can do about that, so what makes Independent Sage think that their definition of lockdown is going to make any impact? I don't see any other option Dave. Failure to lock down properly early on and the disastrous failure of track and trace is why we are here now.

So we are in Tier 4....i feel for all the small business owners I really do....but what is the difference to the majority of us ? Still can't do anything that remotely resembles fun. But the frustrating thing to me is that it won't work....we've been in and out of lockdowns and numerous tiers but the the virus seems as common as ever. It won't work and it can't work. People need to go out and buy food, essential workers need to keep the country running and the NHS just can't stop operating (and it's crystal clear that many infections are occurring in hospital settings). And as I previously pointed out, 1/3rd of Covid deaths are currently occurring in care homes. How are lockdowns and stupid tier systems going to help these people?

Were pushing 1000 deaths a day. Hospitals are bursting at the seams and you think the safest thing to do is let people “get on with it”. I assume you mean open up everything, shops, pubs, nightclubs How many deaths a day do you think that would lead to within a few weeks ??? 2017 saw 64,000 people in this country die of flu, a number a lot higher than we currently sit on for Covid, hospitals, much like every year for Christ knows how long, were at absolute breaking point. Were you this bothered when that was happening? Or did you not take a blind bit of notice because all’s the media reported was patients in hospital corridors and then the reporting moved on to who’s grown the biggest Marrow in Suffolk. You’re only this alarmed because you’re being fed it every single day. According to Public Health England’s annual monitoring of influenza, just over 30,000 people died of influenza in the 2016-17 and 2017-18 flu seasons. Even adding in the rest of the U.K., that is way below excess deaths of close to 80,000 due to Covid and these excess deaths are counted against a base that includes flu deaths in previous years. Given we have 3 months to get to a year of Covid, it would seem Covid is maybe 6 times more deadly even after lockdowns and huge behavioural changes. That seems to be a reasonable base for acting and not hoping it will burn out as you think it would

For all the shit flying about regarding how inept we are at dealing with this it could be worse in Germany they are going nuts because they can't get the vaccine.

For a change he has a slight bit of a point. But its shown before you can’t really have areas that are close in different tiers. People exploit it. London sneezes, the rest of the U.K. goes into lockdown.

Said before it’s plani daft they aren’t using commercial and private options ( I know this was tongue in cheek ) but if speed is the priority NHS alone isn’t the answer .

They awarded the track and trace contracts to private companies at a cost of 100s of millions and its a complete farce and you want private firms giving covid jabs to people of this country? They can't get a bloody App right so I sure as hell wouldn't trust some private firm with hired help putting a needle in my arm!

Never thought I'd be praising Middle Eastern regimes for allowing greater freedoms than my own country.. What on earth is happening?
It's great here in Dubai. The authorities recognise the economy and peoples livelihoods are far more important than what is, comparative to those of years gone by, a mild flu. Its great to see. They are basically ignoring covid bollocks as they appreciate there are more important things in life. Economic hardship results in mass slaughter - only a genuine idiot could disagree.
The pubs are open till 4am and its pretty much life as normal.

Probably best to assume we will all be stuck in tier 4 till April if not later - hospital capacity will be the justification regardless of the fact it's near capacity and in 'crisis' most winters. A horrific few months ahead.

Yes, well done Stoke-on-Trent. You've gone from 4th in highest local authority cases to around 170th, so here's your reward. Get yourself out of the top 200 and we'll consider sticking you in Tier 5.

How many people do you think would have died of Covid if the government had done nothing? Personally I think it will have plateaued as it naturally burnt itself out. Instead, we now have a faster spreading new variant that was allowed to thrive by these very lockdowns people are clamouring for due to people not being allowed out to boost their immune systems and having to sanitise their hands constantly. But yeah let’s have another one, the other 27 this year have worked really well. Why do you think you know better than people who work in intensive care units? They are the ones dealing with the impact of people who ignore the rules and they are pleading with us to follow the rules.

Well apart from the fact that there isn't millions of Oxford vaccines sitting in hospitals around the country and the NHS could not vaccinate the entire front line staff by Monday, I agree with everything else in your retweet. You really need to engage your brain before retweeting the seemingly endless shit that you do.
