someone I know who works in icu said the exact opposite tbh my mrs was in A-E Boxing Day with her Mother and it aint busy I guess people who are actually going there are in a better position to comment than anybody. I did hear some nurses moaning about the standard of PPE though, apparently the visors were rubbing their eyebrows off😉 First world problems eh😀

How many people do you think would have died of Covid if the government had done nothing? Personally I think it will have plateaued as it naturally burnt itself out. Instead, we now have a faster spreading new variant that was allowed to thrive by these very lockdowns people are clamouring for due to people not being allowed out to boost their immune systems and having to sanitise their hands constantly. But yeah let’s have another one, the other 27 this year have worked really well. I think it would have naturally burnt itself out too, these numbers would give you 600k or so dead by the time we hit herd immunity. I think with newer evidence on asymptomatic infections it's a little lower if you slow things down so that hospitals don't get overwhelmed, but it's higher if you let too much happen all at once. So if we'd rushed it then 600k+ dead by the end. What do you think the fatality rate is? How many would have died by the time it burnt itself out and when would it have reached that point? Lockdowns clearly make the number of covid infections slow down, but obviously they have bad effects too. I don't think it's an easy decision.

Modern medicine's a wonder and it sucks donkey balls that so many patients are missing out right now.

Were pushing 1000 deaths a day. Hospitals are bursting at the seams and you think the safest thing to do is let people “get on with it”. I assume you mean open up everything, shops, pubs, nightclubs How many deaths a day do you think that would lead to within a few weeks ??? 2017 saw 64,000 people in this country die of flu, a number a lot higher than we currently sit on for Covid, hospitals, much like every year for Christ knows how long, were at absolute breaking point. Were you this bothered when that was happening? Or did you not take a blind bit of notice because all’s the media reported was patients in hospital corridors and then the reporting moved on to who’s grown the biggest Marrow in Suffolk. You’re only this alarmed because you’re being fed it every single day. There weren't 64,000 flu deaths in 2017. fullfact.org/online/october-2020-flu-covid-pandemic/

For a change he has a slight bit of a point. But its shown before you can’t really have areas that are close in different tiers. People exploit it.

Correct the bloke who made the inacurrate comments about the daily deaths then. I'm a contributor not a f*****g editor. Still - if I hadn't got in first I'm sure it was only a matter of time before you would have corrected the point about 'flu deaths though😉

What are they expecting from people exactly? There's very little we can do and bar an East German Stasi-like authority it's going to be extremely difficult to get complete compliance. 1/3rd of current Covid deaths are in care homes and a quarter of infections are occurring in hospital settings. There's not a lot the general population can do about that, so what makes Independent Sage think that their definition of lockdown is going to make any impact?

Incredibly this Track and Trace scandal is still going on since May. What a racket! People being employed who are not doing any work just so companies can claim hundreds and thousands of pounds of the Government I have just spoken to my Niece who has now been working as Track and Trace Handler for 3 weeks in Sheffield, is being paid £15 an hour and as not handled one call as she is still waiting for log-on details for the Company to get started. She has contacted them several times to be told "not to worry". She told me she applied for the job, it was a 12 minute online interview, was immediately offered the job without any references, and has so far received 3 weeks full salary, she has so far been in contact with a dozen others who are having similar experiences. Apparently the Companies hiring get 17% of the salary for each person they employ and can employ up to 18000 people. These are all private sector companies who have received Govt contracts for call centre work, and apparently get more money for the more people they employ. www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-53220180www.politicshome.com/news/article/serco-contract-tracing-concentrixwww.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8370899/Whistleblower-exposes-test-trace-shambles-Operators-no-idea-going-live.html

So we are in Tier 4....i feel for all the small business owners I really do....but what is the difference to the majority of us ? Still can't do anything that remotely resembles fun. But the frustrating thing to me is that it won't work....we've been in and out of lockdowns and numerous tiers but the the virus seems as common as ever.

None as far as I know and it came back after the summer before a new variant.
