Overall he was a good player for us. He was a bit shit in the relegation season yes but compared to what has come since he is far superior. Heaven knows why we let him go when we had the replacements lined up that we did. I liked Erik. But in a manner of speaking, he became our first Imbula. Once he signed his last contract - don't remember the exact length or the exact conditions, but it was a very good one - his form immediately nosedived. The odd good game aside, he cost us too many points. I don't think he did at all. His form dropped but then last season he was one of the better players for instance. He was still more than good enough and compared to a lot of them, his attitude was fine. Of course the real issue is what has come after but there's no doubt letting Pieters go was a real fuck up.

Chester is not a bad centre back, and with games under his belt and having settled in, will be a good signing. He came right into the side with matches coming thick and fast after not playing much at Villa, which was always going to prove a test. Maybe easing him in would have been better?
In January, however, we badly needed a left back, which could have meant Bruno switching back inside, where he is far more comfortable.
If the choice was a proper left back or Chester, I would personally have preferred a left back.

Yeah he was good enough for the Championship and not good enough for the Premiership. Or should I say not good enough in a struggling team. Because he has done reasonably well at Burnley, when played.

I think he looks uncomfortable on the left hand side of a 2. Might be better on the right of a 2.

I think he looks uncomfortable on the left hand side of a 2. Might be better on the right of a 2. Whereas Collins looks totally comfortable left or right, anywhere, except in O'Neill's thoughts.
