If it stays like it is even with everyone else winning , we are only 4 points off 16th place so not panic stations just yet.

The gap between West Brom at the top and Barnsley at the bottom was the same as between Liverpool and Manure in 5th. Explains why we haven't opened up a gap

Useful last minute winner for Wednesday against Charlton. The teams below have all won but most of the teams above us have lost including a few freefallers. A win against Luton on Saturday could make things look a lot better.
I think Wigan are getting out of it.

I'd say we'd had a good pair of results if it wasn't for the other teams around us getting improbable wins.

Other teams are spiralling down this league, introducing Hull and Boro... I mentioned on another thread yesterday that Hull & Boro are in freefall right now & this really isnt a good time for teams to be hitting poor form as they could proper get dragged into the relegation mix at a time the bottom 3 or 4 including ourselves for majority of the season are finding some form & grinding out all important victories! A points deduction for Blues, Derby & Sheff Weds before the seasons out would enlarge the pack in the fight for safety too!

It's crazy really but I think rather than us worrying about those below us, it's those above us who have been safe all season who should really be bricking it. We know we now have the players who can, most of the time, give anybody a game and we have plenty of winnable games remaining. There are teams above us in freefall who thought they were safe but have been dragged into this. Other than probably Barnsley, the relegated teams could be anybody from Sheffield Wednesday downwards. I think Hull could well be one of the other two and it could take a record points tally to survive. I really can't see Wednesday, Derby or Birmingham getting relegated on 51 points (which they only need two more wins for - assuming the latter two don't get points deductions). With a fit Rooney, Derby should be fine. Reading, with a win less, are slightly vulnerable, but unless they start shipping goals, they're almost safe too.We could still be relegated, but especially after the Cardiff performance (coming off the two losses), I think we're more likely to stay up than the teams around us. 7 points from the next 15 points available will be tough, but is very achievable and will see us almost there, needing 7 points from the last 7 games to total 51 points. I still feel there's a panic in the squad if we lose the next two, particularly with one being against Luton! I agree with your opening comments - there will be teams who thought they were safe, and since O'Neill came along, Stoke more than any team around the bottom are capable of beating anyone. Reading 0 - 3 Wigan. Oops.

Usually the same near the end of the Season. Teams near the bottom fight harder to survive. Teams mid table and safe aren't as bothered.

We aren’t pulling away, but other clubs are being sucked in. Hull City are looking particularly perilous at the moment.

30 from our last 20 (under MON) 17 from our last 10 BUT 7 from our last 5 (actually last 6)
Even if we only get 14 points from our last 11 surely that will do us? 52 points...

Wigan, Barnsley and Luton all have better form than us from the last 6 games. Time for a big result for us on Saturday but we aren't half missing McClean.

Same again today. At any other time, a home win, two away draws and two clean sheets in one week would be a good outcome.
