How can any player not keep themselves fit? It's a vast part of their job.
An appalling state of affairs.

Finally got to listen to that. Bloody hell that is damning. Help? Not available outside the UK. O'Neil says he returned from lockdown in a condition that meant, by Tom's own admission, that he wasn't available for selection. He went on to say younger players have seemingly struggled more than senior pro's to manage their levels during lockdown but that tom has now picked up a foot injury. He concluded by saying if you aren't fit enough to play you certainly won't be playing.

Given the whole Covid situation, people not working, being made redundant then you hear something like this from a person in a very privileged position in life is disgusting

www.stokesentinel.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/stoke-city-live-transfer-webchat-4456835Tom Edwards has turned down the opportunity of decent loan moves and made it clear to Michael O'Neill that he wants to really fight for his place as right-back. He was criticised for his fitness in the re-start but he's come back looking very lean and, seemingly, with a fresh determination. It looks like a kick up the backside might have done the trick. He's a talented lad and his crossing is excellent. It'll be interesting if he gets a chance as wing-back. There have been whispers about a new right-back too so it's imperative for Edwards and Tommy Smith to impress in pre-season.

I think somewhere, there’s a decent player, he’s still only young, and he still has a lot to learn, the problem here is, as soon as you give a young player,a lengthy contract,or any age player, their natural response is NOT to push themselves anymore, because they know that they are safe and comfortable, with a two three or sometimes four year contract, same thing happened to Moritz Bauer, and others, its the fcukwits in charge who are to blame, for giving these very average players, obscene contracts.

Fair play to the lad, he has something to offer for sure but he needs to sort his shit out. He was probably one of the best right backs in the league under Jones at the end of the first season he really came on, shake it went to his head.

The flip side to your reasoning is if they dish out to year contracts and player turns out to be a gem end of contract they can walk .

So we should of only offered Collins and Campbell a short contract?

There is a middle ground between one year and five years. In fact it used to be standard that players were given 2 year contracts to begin with and three if they were proven quality.

If he’s fit and he’s putting the work in he should be given an opportunity to prove himself. He can definitely do it.

We offered them long contracts to attract them to stay and protect our asset. Otherwise they’d have buggered off to someone who would offer them long contracts. That’s his point.

Encouraging news if true. It was probably harsh at the time but MO'N completely dropping him was probably the motivation he needed. It must've been pretty damning to see Collins starting at RB over you. I don't know what he did wrong, but him wanting to stay and fight for a place probably means he did do something wrong?
Second half of 2018-19 he showed his quality.
Fell off a bit last year but a large reason for that was due to Mad Nathan's shite system. McClean or Ward at LB doing nowt to stop deep crosses leaving an inexperienced 20y/o at RB out to dry.
