Because he’s a shit footballer , they already have 2 decent RB’s so he won’t be playing much there How do you know one of them right backs isn't coming in the opposite direction? Did cross my mind if there was maybe something going on like that, but seems unlikely Not sure the highly-rated American would get a work permit? www.transfermarkt.co.uk/mandela-egbo/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/258917The other one's English so wouldn't need one - but doesn't seem to have quite the CV to make it plausible - but who knows?

What about their other right back, Mandela Egbo? He's a London lad and has played for England through the youth groups, so presumably would be known to Andy Cousins.
Possibility?

Just read a few more comments and they don't seem massively high on Duncan as a whole, especially defensively. Egbo's certainly got an interesting CV for a young English player - but 23yo back-up at NY Red Bulls doesn't scream upgrade for a Champ club, does it? We're probably reading far too much into it!

Comes across well, sounds like he's either had a change in heart and realises he just wants to play football or he realises he needs to say that to get a chance with us again.

Look there's never been ANY doubt that Tom, who's supported Stoke all his life, wants to play here. He'd turn Arsenal down if they came for him. But he needs to work hard to get back into MON's good book.

Yes on radio stoke said he'd lost his confidence at stoke and went to fleetwood and started enjoying playing again and said he'd go anywhere to play football as that what he really enjoys and hopes to come back to stoke stronger and get back in the first team.
Sounded very determined to get back to full pomp.

You’d imagine he’ll be back in November ( if they don’t make the play offs ) have a break then be potentially ready for selection after the Christmas break Id imagine whilst O’Neill is manager at Stoke City his ready for selection won’t be here He needs to get over it.

Listening to him yesterday it seems something has gone on (he says it was lost confidence) but it seems to me he's had his epiphany and has seen the light! That was my interpretation as well. I hope we are right - I would be chuffed to bits if Edwards comes back and makes the grade at Stoke next January. It is quite clear that there have been "issues" in the past and that they were, at least in part, down to him. But I'm enough of a romantic to be delighted if he has learned by his experience because, when he was good in the first team, he looked to have great potential.

How long will he have left on his contract when he returns?

How long will he have left on his contract when he returns? I think its 2024. If he could settle down and play solidly for a year it would be a great boost. There is no doubt when he's 'on it' he can cross a good ball and he's got a good engine. Some of his defending in his last first team spell were below Championship standard but he's young enough to have one last go at it if returns fit and motivated. Id really like to see him fulfil his potential.

Makes sense if that was the only option. Fleetwood, post Barton, don't seem that interested in him, so they're messing about a bit really. Strange choice, you'd think there were other more local clubs available, but it is what it is. I'm not sure his career with Stoke is over, but I'm not sure it ever really began either. Either way it's the best for Stoke and the player right now.

At least we've got one out on loan who actually wants to come back.

I’m sure his £14,000 a week salary will comfort anything that happens between now and then 🙄 work that out !

I wish the lad well but I don't think this move will change anything. MLS to Premiership/Championship will be a massive gap to fill and I reckon if he does well and likes being in the USA then he may decide to stay there.
OS.

Mellor said: “MLS clubs are doing really well in the (North American) Champions League these days and taking on Mexican teams. The top teams – and New York Red Bulls should be up there this season – would give Premier League clubs a good go.

There was a player there , but it didn't happen
I am sure the main person to blame is himself
But he was a bit unlucky to come through when we were a struggling team , looking for an old fashioned Andy Wilkinson style right back
If he had come through a couple of years later , when everyone wanted wing backs it might have been different , maybe ?
In a solid team , playing wing backs , he might have impressed

I hope he does well. He’ll find NYC a lot different than S-O-T. He won’t have anywhere near the same pressure to perform and that might give him the break he needs to regain his confidence. The level is about the same as mid-table Championship, so he certainly has the ability to do well. Getting used to the change of life-style and the travel will be his biggest challenges. I planned to come over for one year. 40 years later, a wonderful wife, four kids and two grandchildren later, I am still here. So he might find it hard to go back. The longer you stay the harder it gets.

Based on what we've seen I'm not convinced he is good enough for the Championship at the moment, maybe he will be if he can keep his head down and get a consistent run of games, I doubt he could play higher than the Championship but he's still young. NYC is a great move for him, a chance for a new start and I hope he takes that chance and earns a permanent transfer. I would have liked him to be a success here but perhaps he will thrive in a new environment, he's had chances under quite a few managers here now and they've all decided he is not the answer but a change of scenery could do him the world of good.

He clearly won't be involved whilst o'Neill is here.
Out on loan for a league starting in April so he won't be in contention here next season either.
