A teacher would be sacked Not without due process. And considering itv were warned of this three years ago plus it’s all over the internet when he came out, Phillip Schofield has had enough due process considering the media and celebrity world he lives in

No Knowing and grooming are not the same thing If he was groomed it's a serious issue Grooming isn’t illegal as an adult though, unless the person can be referred to as vulnerable. (So says my 30 second google searching on the morning dog walk 😂) So, if he didn’t touch him when he was not an adult (he may well have, I don’t know), where is the offence? He didn’t take anything from him as a child. The suggestion is he groomed him as a child, age 11 That would be the, very serious, offence

Grooming requires the intent to sexually, financially or otherwise abuse a child according to the Met website. If there was no such acts before that child became an adult then how is it grooming? I’m not saying it’s not morally bankrupt if that is what did occur but how do you go about proving it if nothing happened until they were an adult? Of course, if something was revealed like sex-related texts etc, that seems like solid evidence. I don’t know the finer workings of this but if Schofield had sex with him the day after turning of age (not saying he did) I don’t see how that’s any better than doing it the day before (not saying he did that either). Personally, I think that the whole ordeal seems disgusting but I’m not sure if it’s illegal.

The blokes a tit. If he thinks his career is over, and I hope it is because I dis-like him big style and not for his recent coming out but from previous exploits on morning tv, then why did he consent to the cringeworthy interview last night. Eamon Holmes is right, he’s a total narcissist.

For the duration there is nothing at all sexual going on / no suggestions/ no hints( there may be but there certainly doesn't have to be at all)...just befriending, perhaps , gifts, taking an interest in someone....But if the relationship then turns sexual and the " groomer" had some power ( or age difference) over the groomed, then the lead -up behaviour can then ( retrospectively) be deemed " grooming! "...even if it wasn't sexual.....so I'd imagine Schofield could be accused of grooming the alleged victim simply by befriending him IF it then became sexual. But intent is a very difficult thing to prove. IMHO

As others have said, isn't the interest shown in the Schofield affair a shocking indictment of our media led/ celebrity society. There are no winners in the case, but in terms of importance in light of the many issues facing the UK/ the world it really is an absolute non event. Perhaps reflects alot about human nature though.

Everyone should just forget about Schofield and let the authorities take over.

I’ve just watched the interview, and I’m going on personal judgment but to me, he seemed genuine. If not, he’s an extremely good liar. Comes down to what’s viewed as grooming. If he didn’t make any sexual overtures to the lad before he became legal, then he’s technically done nothing wrong. He just made a move on someone who he also helped get into TV. It’s an unfortunate link, but doesn’t incriminate him without hard evidence. This other lad really needs to speak up and give his side of the story.

It’s up to him if he wants to keep himself out of the spotlight. And who could blame him? As soon as he says a word that’s it, social media, the News will ensure that he doesn’t get a moments peace. Schofield, whatever his state of mind really needs to sort himself out in his own mind and not go doing interviews, he’s making it worse for himself.

He’s clearly a broken man, but he was very candid and gave clear answers to almost every question put to him. In fact, he provided categorical denials of a lot of accusations levelled at him, so in that sense it’s good he is not shying away from anything. But this other lad needs to accept he is involved, and assuming nothing untoward happened, that giving his side of the story will actually do more to help this go away.

I have little or no interest in his current predicament and have no intention of watching this interview. But I have to ask did the interviewer ask him about the way he tried to incriminate those innocent men accused of forming a VIP paedo ring on live tv and in front of the then pm? If he wants to talk about being hounded by the media he needs to look in the mirror.

A teacher would be sacked As would a football coach That’s sort of interesting. So someone coaches an under 18s football team and then several years later has a relationship with an adult who was then a child would they be banned? Assuming there was no suggestion of impropriety whilst the subject was a minor. What if the relationship happens much later? Like coach a child as a 25 year old, meet them 20 years later as a 35 year old. Would that be considered bannable? Seems a tricky thing to legislate for.

There is very little homophobia when it comes to tv The exact opposite appears to be the case in the media world, particularly on the BBC. You only have to look at the percentages on who has been given their own show on radio 2 for a very clear example. So for him to use this argument is laughable.

Like coach a child as a 25 year old, meet them 20 years later as a 35 year old. Would that be considered bannable? Seems a tricky thing to legislate for. Using the football coach analogy, I think what people are trying to say is, the coach of the under 18’s football team has spotted a player too young to play in his team but has formed a friendship with him. When the player gets towards more of an acceptable age to be able to play for the coaches team he invites him to play for the team, not only that, he makes him captain and lets the player pick the team, giving him special treatment. Once he becomes the correct age to be able to play for the team and also be in a consenting relationship, they both enter into a relationship. I think people are using the argument that the lad had been groomed. Which like you say is difficult to legislate. Either way, as far as I’m aware, no police investigation has/is happening and you’d be a very brave person to come out and say all he’s said in the interview and in the press if there was more he was hiding or if he hasn’t been telling the truth. The media need to leave him be. They’ve had their bite at him. Like others have mentioned, this could end up being very similar to Caroline Flack. The media are hounding him at the moment. If he were to hurt himself or end his life then the very same shameful media would be running tributes and another ‘be kind’ campaign.
