I'm pretty sure he was bomb squaded for an off the pitch fallout. Something about a kerfew with his Mrs as I recall. Next thing he was shipped out on a loan. That was the first signs of poor judgment by a nutcase manager. To say it was about football was clearly BS. He might not of been a flying wingback but him and Arnie worked hard for each other and he was a solid full back. An easy first name on the sheet at the time. Same poor decision making with Bardsley when we had nothing better in reserve or to replace him with. I think it was to do with that "Real Housewives of Cheshire" garbage he started appearing in with his wife..........

Or was it because, as Crouchie said in his book, because he parked his car in Peter Coates parking place?

I thought he was potentially a world class fullback when he signed. Dutch international and had played for a top side. He quite possibly WAS but his standards dropped here, after a decent 2-3 years he campaigned for a long contract, got it, then immediately lost motivation. He must have regained it when he joined Burnley, but his last appearences here are best forgotten. The thing that is spoken about in a number of posts above, that he went across to our fans and applauded them I think is typical for him. He always did that, even when he played badly.

A good servant to the club overall but it was the right time for him to leave when he did. His performances during the relegation season were not great, indeed he did things off the pitch we'd absolutely slaughter certain other players for.

There weren't many left as he shook hands with all the players first but walked from about half way by the sentinel (whatever its now called) towards and along the main stand and clapped the remaining fans and got a louder clap back then our players did. He looked touched and "saluted" the boothen. I'm glad he showed his appreciation and received equal respect back. And rightly so too, he was a good servant for us, arguably underrated and maligned without some people realising how good he actually was.

I remember the shocking Wigan 0-3 defeat early in the first season back in the pub league. It was a national sports headline as we were still relevant.
Can’t remember exactly what happened but peters got pelters in front of the boothen /east stands. No hard feelings as he was overall a good servant but it did feel like his time here had been and gone.

It could/should have been 0-3 last night, so some things never change...

Neither ashamed nor proud to say that the Wigan 0:3 game was the only time I've ever left a match early. I was furious with what I was witnessing on the pitch and had my - at that time - ten year old kid with me so didn't want to lose my shit in front of him.

I remember that game well, think it was probably Nick Powell's finest performance at the Bet365, shame it was for the opposition !🤬
