That's shocking there are plenty of jobs out there I've seen them, one last thing do you work for a privately funded school ? Okay, that's fine then. You believe jobless people just don't want a job. I disagree. I do at the minute yes, I have worked in several state schools before and still do in the community now. I spent 12 years in the Civil Service Welfare to Work sector you haven't got a clue what you are on about, why did you chose to work in the private school system ? was it for monetary purposes by any chance, funded by rich parents who most likely you are politically opposed to ? how does that fit in with your Marxist views just curios.

You know what, that may well happen. And I've seen people, family and friends saying things like 'well if poor people want to afford food they should get off their arses and get a job' and things like that. I hope I go the way my grandfather has and remain a socialist. And to be perfectly honest, for all the 'arrogance' quips levied at left wingers who are young, there is an incredible level of arrogance in saying 'oh you're only left wing because you're young, you don't really know anything'. When realistically I have moved further and further left with every year since I turned 16. I've gone to a GP asking for mental health assistance and been told to either 'wait 6 months or you can get it private for £50 an hour', a figure I could nowhere near afford at the time, and still can't now. I've seen kids in a school I taught at come in without food and steal bread from the dining hall to take home because parents can't afford enough food. I've seen friends on zero-hours contracts turned down when they ask for extra hours because they can't afford rent. I've seen a friend in the NHS work minimum 14 hours a day 7 days a week for a month straight, sleeping in the car once because she was needed the next day at 5am when her last 14 hour shift finished at midnight. I've heard of her nurse friends having to use a food bank because they don't have enough left over after bills, rent, and car costs. I've seen exactly how useless 'trickle-down economics is' and read up on the research and reasoning behind both right and left wing policies, and I've found that my politics is that of the left. So don't reduce me to my age, because I have given great consideration to why I believe what I believe. Whether you agree with my side or not, I am no yuppie student simply longing for unicorns, puppies and rainbows because it sounds nice. That's shocking there are plenty of jobs out there I've seen them, one last thing do you work for a privately funded school ? His political life is to the left but his life is 100% capitalist and to the right brilliant stance 👍

Okay. I chose to because I wanted to learn to teach in a progressive-teaching based school, and because my mental health wouldn't withstand the stresses of teaching in a state school. My pay is very similar to that of a normal state school physics teacher, and I did not get the 28k bursary usually afforded to trainee physics teachers in their first year. It fits with my 'Marxist' views, because I still believe that eventually people will become upset with the conditions that companies and business apply to their working environment, leading to economies and governance based more around the provision of care, health and human welfare, rather than the exponential profit growth of current economics. I believe we should be transitioning away from growth based corporation economics towards an economy based on welfare and sustainability, as New Zealand have recently done. Marx has in fact been fairly closely aligned with what has actually happened too, as capitalism since he died in the western world has generally become more and more worker-centric, with introduction of such 'Marxist horrors' as universal healthcare, minimum wage, maximum working hours, paid breaks, holidays, weekends, and unions. In fact, I think the next huge push forward will hopefully be the introduction of a universal basic income, a traditionally right wing prospect which worked fantastically well under Reagan in the US trials. Incidentally it was only scrapped because as women in Seattle got money from UBI, they figured out they could have a real career, and divorce rates went up. The GOP felt this wasn't going to bode well with a still very christian nation, and got rid! Despite the fact results showed huge increases in productivity, wealth and welfare of almost all workers.

Live on the street and refuse any wages because I don't believe in unregulated capitalism? What a daft argument.

The real face of the caring left, bless now stop crying and take your Jeremy Corbin posters down from your bedroom wall you won't require those again. Any sympathy or respect I had for the left has gone after the last couple of days. Virtue signalling, hypocritical and nasty cunts, almost to a man. What exactly has 'the left' done in the last couple of days? I would say there was a lot more of that going on before the election than afterwards.

His political life is to the left but his life is 100% capitalist and to the right brilliant stance 👍 I know a few like that. I know it's as if they are embarrassed to love money or want something better by hard work it seems that it's more virtuous to be poor and on benefits. Some forget the welfare state is to help not a career.

Agree with pretty much every word of that. Interesting right at the end, that he suggests the size of Boris' majority is probably going to make BRINO more likely and the first people who are likely to find themselves under the wheels of the bus, will be the ERG.

In five years time you’ll be five years older and five years further along your journey from being on the left to being more to the right. The bit of experience that you will be missing at that time will be of having lived under a leftish government for a few years. Once you’ve endured and seen the results of that, your journey will speed up a little bit. I know you think it won’t but there’s many others on this board who have been the same idealistic left-leaning young person that you are now and whose views, some more than others, have drifted right as they piled the years on. You know what, that may well happen. And I've seen people, family and friends saying things like 'well if poor people want to afford food they should get off their arses and get a job' and things like that. I hope I go the way my grandfather has and remain a socialist. It’s difficult because it does need addressing ...but, in my 50+ years on this earth it has told me that the Labour Party will not deliver us this ....yeokel has probably seen what I’ve seen over the years both his and your views are right in a way........neither the tories or labour are the answer. Hopefully we won’t end up in the same state Greece is in now.

Do as I say, not as I do. At no point have I ever, ever, said that someone should not either send their kids to private school or work in one. I do not believe that the people in the system are the problem. What I do believe is that the state sector should be funded infinitely better than it is, and that a person's education should not be decided by how much money their parents happened to have. I hope they are abolished, and integrated into a properly-funded, hugely reformed state sector in the medium-to-long term.

Hopefully we won’t end up in the same state Greece is in now. I understand that completely, and in a different electoral system such as Proportional vote, I'd be more tempted by the Greens, but as it is, my only option with a chance of power, close to my beliefs, is Labour. I just despise the view that many have that I'm naive because I'm young and left wing. In the same way older people resent the 'you're an old, cynical racist tag' that older tory voters get. Both are untrue.

Today, he seems to have become persona non grata to the Green Brigade.

I have a hell of a lot of privilege, I accept that, but the way to change things is by campaigning to change the system. In the same way, someone who buys Nike shoes is not in favour of sweatshops or a hypocrite, despite the fact Nike has been hugely linked with the use of them. I do a hell of a lot to push the children at my school, who will no doubt end up in high positions, to try and understand the fact that they are incredibly lucky and most people will never have the opportunity they have. I hope it makes a difference. I am pontificating the virtue of a system. Not of the people within it.
