How many players can people list who have left Stoke City to go on and do better things at other clubs in the last 20 years. Not very many. Just to get the list started one of them played in the Champions League final last season - it doesn't get much "better things" than that. He ended up in the losing team, PSG, then joined the winners afterwards, Bayern Munich. Now, Pugsley, you were saying...? Huth, Shaq, Zonzi Pugsley has a point though we are somewhat of a footballing graveyard, the equivalent to Turkey.

I wouldn’t bother mate. This particular individual is strange to say the least. In a previous exchange, he tried to tell me Verlinden was on the verge on a call up the senior Belgian squad for the forthcoming Euros. He makes things up as he goes along. You have a way with words that makes you come out as a liar, you're very good at that. I'm not the only person on the Oatcake that has referred to Roberto Martinez' interview on Belgian TV that Thibaud Verlinden was being considered as a possible squad member for the upcoming euros. But in your very "strange" mind 'considered' instantly becomes 'on the verge". There is a difference but it's going to be impossible for you to grasp that. Meanwhile here's an article, linked to from the Oatcake, that might surprise some that claim otherwise Stoke management excited by Thibaud Verlinden potential. Having had the opportunity to speak to a couple of the Belgium youth coaches I can assure you that in their opinions Verlinden had been left behind by his peers, this was during a conversation about Nathan Collins displays for the Irish and what a great impression he had made on them. In the article it’s interesting that two people featured are part of a group who put their heads on the block by rewarding a youngster with a lucrative long term contract based on very little evidence. Remember this was the kid who had the elite of European football chasing him, would you choose Stoke over Madrid, Milan, Barcelona, Munich or even Manchester ? And then we have had the stories of millions of pounds bids from European clubs and then even today we have reports of clubs from Holland,Belgium, Germany etc queuing up to sign him, but he decides to prove himself by joining some third rate Dutch team. I honestly do hope that Verlinden can prove himself as a player and eventually find a club that matches his ego and that of his agent and advisors.

You certainly have to wonder if there again will be a young continental kid with huge talent who will join Stoke, which has proven a graveyard for a succession of talents. Calling Fortuna Sittard third rate is extremely disrespectful and equivalent to calling scfc a sunday league team.

I would have thought that, if you bring a player back after a long injury, hardly play him, and then decide to bring in a whole bunch of possible replacements for him all at once, it would be because you've decided he's crocked. That he's now unlikely to become the player he might have become. He's gone to a team that would have been relegated from the Dutch First Division if not for the pandemic. All a bit sad.

Stupid decision. Good luck to him, hopefully he'll get given a chance to prove himself.

Bad decision that. We will regret this one I think I see what you’re implying. Obviously a close friend of Tyrese. They might have developed into quite a duo if we’d played them together. Have to hope Tyrese isn’t thinking his pal’s had a raw deal.. He’s an absolute key man to Stoke at the moment and we need him to stay ambitious for Stoke as well as himself.

His dad actually seems impressed by the business Stoke have done and Nathan Collins is also a big friend of Campbell we are told. In football you must get used to your mates leaving. It happens all the time. You can't make decisions about your career based on what your mates do.

You can't just choose the bits that suit your agenda.

We received about 20million quid as our last payment. Where do you think that shortfall can be made up? Who else do you think we can sell?

Not Tyrese for ÂŁ8 million that would be lunacy. And your implication wasn't that we would have to sell him for financial reasons but that he would want a move because he thinks Verlinden got a raw deal.
We could sell Allen for ÂŁ6-8 million, Clucas, one of Collins or Souttar for at least ÂŁ6 million (from what I saw Connor Taylor is at least as good as them). Clark and NE won't be with us and nor will JOM probably, Vokes will be out of contract as will Shawcross and we don't have to sign Matondo. You don't sell a young striker worth ÂŁ30 million for ÂŁ8 million to fulfill FFP that is lunacy and the complete opposite of what FFP is supposed to achieve.

Clucas' contract ends next season, when clubs can get him for nothing. There isn't a single club that would pay for him on current form anyway. According to transfermarkt, Allen's value is ÂŁ2.8M. Collins' is ÂŁ2M, Souttar 3.5M. Campbell stands at 6M. So get real!

So MON has decided to persist with wide players who carry the ball until they encounter a defender, then pass the all backwards. It’s going to be a long season!

So where does that leave scfc in the big comparison? Are we Vanarama National League level? Well going by your opinions Stoke City is a very narrow minded, insular club who are in the habit of only hiring managers from the home nations apart from England. The club selfishly then hire teenagers with the world at their feet and then systematically break these child prodigies down and rob any semblance of talent from them. Have you ever asked yourself why a boy with the world at his feet joined such a club like Stoke to further his progression to undoubted football superstardom ? Why didn’t he pick Ajax, Liverpool, Barcelona, Juventus, Real Madrid, Chelsea, Man Utd/City, Bayern Munich ? he was obviously being tracked by these giants so why Stoke ? Why hasn’t one of these giants come a calling again and picked up another footballing god on the cheap like they did with Choupa Moating ? Could there be a simple answer right before our eyes, like he just wasn’t good enough for Stoke, just like he was never good enough for one of the European giants.

So how well honestly do you think they would do in the Championship? The Championship is a better standard than the bottom half of most of the European top divisions. That's the kind of anglo-arrogance that got us Brexit So you think a second division Dutch team could compete in the Championship the third best supported league in Europe? How many times do the likes of Ajax, Feyenoord and Eindhoven not qualify for Europe. How many Dutch teams can you name outside those or even in the second division? Had you heard of the team Verlinden's joined before yesterday. Go to Europe and they have heard of a lot of English Championship teams. Most countries outside England do not have the fan base or TV interest in teams outside the top teams so therefore the clubs do not have the riches that even championship teams have. It's not arrogance it's reality. I'm disappointed Verlinden didn't prove himself here but you cannot pretend he has gone to an equivalent Dutch team. And as a side note I am strongly pro European and have travelled extensively throughout Europe, speak French to a reasonable standard and enough German to get by. I make an effort in whichever country I am in to learn some of the language in restaurants and shops and with local people. I am offended by the description of me being Anglo arrogant and the Internet is not the place to trade insults with people you have never met or know nothing about. You can tell me you know more about Dutch football than I do and that I am wrong about the standard but I have the impression that just as Scottish second tier is not at the equivalent of the Championship nor is the rest of Europe. I will accept other people's opinions on this if they think otherwise because I will admit I know nothing about football in Europe outside the top teams. It seems funny though that when Potter was proposed as Stoke manager the response was that you can't compare success in Swedish football to being a prospective manager in the English second tier.

So how well honestly do you think they would do in the Championship? The Championship is a better standard than the bottom half of most of the European top divisions. That's a pretty fair assessment. There's collateral form every year in the UCL & EL, so you can estimate how well any team in Europe compares to another. The current FS team is around relegation quality in the Championship to top six in L1, which is pretty much the individual level shown by Verlinden to date. It's a good match for both parties.
