Letting him go out on loan was 100% the correct decision. Jones didn't play wingers and the most important thing with young players is making sure that they get regular football. Bringing him back is now the correct decision because the new manager does want to play with wingers. Indeed, it was absolutely pointless keeping him here under Jones with his ludicrous diamond bollocks. He's had a good loan and will come back much better. In agreement with both posts. If we see the return of Verlinden and an opportunity for him to play in the first team I hope supporters remember he’s a young guy still on a massive learning curve. He‘ll show as much inconsistency as he will demonstrate his natural talent. Coming back and playing first team football could light the blue touch paper for his development/career, alternatively if not protected (can’t see MON allowing that) it could set him back It’s a positive fingers crossed for me.

Richard Carter is one bitter snide dickhead isn't he. Surely going to make it hard for him to find a job when he's badmouthing past employers. In the real world yes, In the mental world that is football no probably not.

Brilliant news. Imagine he'll play instead of MacLean on Satdee.

Very high praise indeed.
Could be great to have Campbell & Verlinden in the team. Two young attacking players with a point to prove.
Anybody want Tom Ince on loan?

With Verlinden back, for the time being our winger options are decent. Still need one more I reckon.

Maddison at P'boro would be a maverick signing as winger cover and a number 10 option. What price have they put on his head?

Brilliant news. Imagine he'll play instead of MacLean on Satdee. McClean has been our best and most consistant player since moving from left back and he's put in more effort than most players put togther. Dropping him saturday may look like a kick in the teeth (as it's Verindens's first back) Even though Jimmy probably needs a rest. Also MON hasn't seen him play yet. Having said that I'm glad he's back, and looking forward to seeing him in the side.

Not sure I'd do it first game though. I wouldn't move last games right player either!

I dont know if this has been posted elsewhere so apologies if it has. This guy seems class on and off the pitch. The Bolton fans loved him. It's a complete shambles that we let him out on loan in the first place but things like this really need applauding. He seems a genuine lad, who works hard, appreciates the fans, and that's what our club needs right now.
Welcome home Verlinden!

A front 3 of Verlinden Diouf and Campbell ? Are you on drugs?? Why people keep assuming Diouf should be in the side is baffling. He’s wank and should be the first out the door.

Because the manager says he still has a part to play so it made sense to give him some game time in a match that wasn't important

The only player at Stoke , to take the ball on the half turn , and be half way past his man , with his first touch ( arguably the bare minimum you would expect from a professional footballer , but nevertheless he is the only player at Stoke to do this !)
The biggest black mark against him is probably that he is a bit lightweight and lacking in the physical
But this ( not unfounded) black mark goes out the window if ince is in the starting eleven
Nobody ,but nobody is more lightweight and lacking in the physical than ince

He always seems quite happy to get stuck into his fullback and from the way defenders react also seems to be a bit of a Johnny Walters like windup merchant.

sportmagazine.knack.be/sport/voetbal-internationaal/thibaud-verlinden-volgend-jaar-basisspeler-bij-stoke-en-dan-premier-league/article-normal-1553317.html'I visited with my parents and agent Liverpool and Everton, but I didn't have a good feeling about it. During the tour at Stoke City I immediately felt welcome. The manager Mark Hughes took me aside in his office. "Look, boy, you will get a real chance with me."
"That conversation convinced me to opt for Stoke. Money was not my first motivation. I got a scholarship, a kind of scholarship, and that didn't mean much. At Standard I could earn even more. At Stoke City I was promised that as a 16-year-old I would regularly train with the A-team with men like Xherdan Shaqiri and Marko Arnautovic. Standard could only guarantee me a place at the U17 ... The choice was made quickly. In addition, my dad was offered a job as a goalkeeper coach. "
"The intention is to be the starting player at Stoke next season and then move on to the Premier League. But I also don't want to skip any steps. Players who break through in the Premier League are at least 23 or 24 years old. So I'm not in a hurry. I have my father on the phone every day and he feels the same way. He says: "Take your time, stay calm, no stress, play your matches and see what comes your way." He repeats it often enough because he knows how impatient young people are.
"As a little boy you naturally dream of being a famous footballer in your own country. But I don't mind that Belgium doesn't know me. I can play my matches without pressure and the recognition will follow later. I feel at home here and I would find it strange to return to Belgium right now. I will do everything to make it here. Whether in the Championship or in the Premier League. I would be very pleased if I had Championship on my honours list at the age of 30. Rather second division in England than first division in Belgium, but of course you never know what the future will bring. "
