Of the names banded about,I would have to say Houghton. Would be a real shock if we went abroad for one. who's Houghton? Do you mean Chris hughton?

If Benitez can manage in the championship, If Cocu can, then dont see why not. Just depends on how much more money Coatesy wants to throw at it really doesnt it. Another I would look at is Markus Weinzerl..... I think he was at Stuttgart but could be wrong. Another I would seriously sound out is Gennaro Gattuso. If you want passion and commitment hes your man. Hes Diego Sieone on acid..... but was one hell of a player. He had hishands tied behind his back at A-C Milan somewhat when he was manager there If I was in Coatesys shoes I would ask any of them to name his price. It's a moot point. The current owners will not consider a foreign manager, even less so after the Flores fiasco. Thats fair comment fella and respect that but to me thats Just being stubborn. If Youre in the position to hire the best possible manager for the job and he happens to be German or Yugoslavian or whatever nationality, thats Just being pig headed-shirley?

I’d certainly be reviewing those sort of options then. It’s a shame wagner went to schalke I’d have been all over him.

I've heard various post match interviews and it sounds from some of his comments that something has 'kicked' off behind the scenes in the last week. He was more guarded than usual buoyant self. Anybody else pick up on this?

For all the comments regarding dinosaurs and old managers, Newcastle just played 90 minutes in the Premier League the way we used to. Organised, resolute, fit and took their chance.
Well done Steve Bruce and watching that strengthens my view that if we are going to change, we need one of the old warhorses. You know who they are.....

Has there ever been a woman even on the next football manager betting odds? I mean the odds are higher than Gary Rowett but I’ve never even seen it before!

She's uglier than Clare Balding chewing a wasp. It wasn’t really the point. I suppose it’s only a matter of time before a woman gets a managerial job for a men’s team (although that might be too much for some on here to comprehend) but I’ve just never seen it in the odds before!

If Nathan can be successful in leagues 1&2 then he can be successful in the Championship, it's bullshit to suggest otherwise in my opinion.

It's just not sensible to sack him so early in the season, a couple of wins and everything changes.

No - did you see Sunderland til I die?.. What about this? Coates proposes to Jones TP until the end of the season regardless. TP then goes at the end of the season after making a princely sum. Coates then makes a call on Jones. Remember Boro did something similar to this with Veneables and Southgate. Could be Nath needs some help. Hart was a shite manager anyway. and doesn’t seem much help. TP likely to be next Wales boss. Think this would maintain Championship status and buy some time to see if Nath comes good or find a new manager without panicking. Next cheap option to get the fans on side could be Rory, I think that would be a disaster.

If we can afford to spend 70m on a Championship team, and the average Champs manager is paid less than 500k a year, is it just me that thinks paying for a good manager would be a bargain? There are managers other than Jones and Pulis.
Let's buy one. Get a good manager on 1-2m a year. Hughton/Allardyce/Moyes are the obvious desirables, where the enticement might perhaps have to be a DOF post and Board position (and its still a long shot), but failing that I'd take any of the likes of Alex O'Neill, Garry Monk, Carlos Carvahal (even Darren Moore, Nigel Pearson) etc with good recent records in this league over a guy who is clearly out of his depth by a long shot. Perhaps we even need both.
Come January, Sell Butland for 15m (Allen for 7m fingers crossed), buy a good champs level CDM for 3m, a sturdy experienced goalkeeper who can organise a defence, like Ruddy and bank the 15m+ left.
With that expertise, Im certain we'd be fine and live to fight another day at least.

1. Hang tough with Nath and hope, god willing, results improve. 2. The 3rd coming of Tony Pulis, at least he is a sensible grown up. 3. Try to poach Chis Hougton from under the noses of Huddersfield Town. Any others...? Alex Neil is a shout, whether we could get him or not is another matter.
