Gregory is a low end Championship striker. He’s going to miss chances. That’s not bad luck. This is the point isn’t it - if you sign experienced players who have a track record of doing certain things they are likely to carry on doing them - i.e not scoring many goals. Yup. It’s pretty obvious stuff too. But in Jones we trust....

If Gregory puts away that glorious chance and makes it 2-1 then Jones doesn’t roll the dice by taking Woods off and we’d have probably gone on to win comfortably. Those are the fine margins in football. I’m pleased that we were at least creating chances and that the diamond looked far better than against QPR. Gregory is a low end Championship striker. He’s going to miss chances. That’s not bad luck. Nah Bayern even low end Championship strikers should be putting chances like that away.

Bayern. Have you got a 2nd team to move onto. You bore the shit out of me on here and it’s hard to read a thread without your bollocks on it. Can you at least take a holiday or do something to put some joy into your life

I just fear we are in for another long hard season. With few highlights and a slog to finish any higher than 11th. We are in relegation form. We can’t defend we can’t score. 11th is looking like cloud cuckoo land. It probably is unfortunately. I just hope we go on a mid season spurt that saves us.

It avoids having to spend money AND it passes the bluck on to the new manager as the fall guy. Yes, on those situations, its why you have a list of 10 isn't it? (including loans, heaven forbid)

We've played two of the weaker sides in the division and have conceded the joint most goals in the division. Everything about our start has been fucking horrendous. And next week we play play off finalists I’m looking forward to this drubbing we are gonna give someone! 3 wins in 23! Losing is a way of life for us at the moment

He'll slowly find his best 11 over the next 4 or 5 games and when he does he needs to stick with it, work on the training ground with them and then we all need to keep our fingers crossed.
The main worry for me is I don't see Gregory and Hogan (the best combination) scoring anywhere near enough goals.
If it doesn't work then its a new manager in the new year starting from scratch.

Watching the highlights I see nothing there to be encouraged about to be honest. We are passive, weak, fucking shit in every dept Even NJ saw holes in the performance just by reading his post match comments. "We started on the front foot, hit the post, hit the bar, Tommy Smith has a glorious chance in front of goal, then they score with their first chance. "Then we had another glorious chance just after half-time we didn't take (Lee Gregory) and then it's a suck punch (for 2-1). "People are not having to score good goals against us at the minute. "Last season we were sound defensively, but we're showing creakiness at the minute. "Defensively, we should have been a lot better, especially for the goals. "Then there has to be a clinical edge. Moving the ball, no problem, we are just not taking chances." He declined to point a firm finger at Gregory for missing a near open goal at the start of the second half which could have changed the whole complexion of the day. "It's not just him. He worked his socks off, but if you want to win games you've got to score goals. "We've got to be better in both boxes. In between, no problem. "When you're on top, you've got to take chances and then keep the back door shut. "I've asked them, what is it? The same thing comes back... we've got to be better. "We had enough control of the game, but at the minute are not converting that into points. "I'm learning that we are getting punished for everything we don't do at the minute. "Since I've been here, we haven't won enough games (three in 24), but I am learning and we have got to learn quickly." Asked about fans remaining onside - there was just over 2,000 here at The Valley today - Jones observed: "They only have so much patience because they want to see winning football.

Taking a slightly different view I would have to say that there is potential and flexibility within our newly assembled squad, but for Stoke fans the immediate interest is in the uncertainty.
Back in the Pulis days pundits and commentators were keen on repeating the mantra that "with Stoke you know exactly what you are going to get". This was of course entirely true and the team had a profile and identity. They were big and strong, hard to break down as a unit, and well drilled at set pieces. Now the opposite is true and with Jones we seem to have entered a twilight zone where you should always expect the unexpected. It is getting to a point where we do not know what we will see from the team, from one half to another, never mind from one match to the next.
Actually I like this new element of adventure and unpredictability. I am sure this season will be far from dull. Exciting times!

We couldn't have wished for 2 better opening games Grapey. The manager has banged on about how meticulous his pre season regime is. How it is planned down to the smallest detail to ensure the players are raring to go come the first game. He's admitted every signing has been his. This is his team. He had a few months last season to analyse and assess. Hes said nothing but promotion will do. Things couldn't have gone any worse. I dont see a miraculous turnaround in fortunes. He needs to ditch the diamond for a start, but you just know he won't. It's a sorry state of affairs. The diamond wasn't the problem yesterday, thinking Allen can play DM was our downfall. The same Allen who was one of the best players at Euros a few years back playing that exact same position

There for all to see yesterday. Patience..... it’s going to get exciting I agree. I think in a few months time all those calling for a 4th manager sacking in 21 months and starting inane debates on who the manager should be are going to look stupid. But like both sides of the Brexit debate they will never admit they were wrong.

It's really not that unpredictable when you win 13% of the time, is it? There are only two other outcomes, and the most likely is defeat. I do not take any pleasure in losing, and drawing is not that much fun either.

But like both sides of the Brexit debate they will never admit they were wrong. I will happily hold up my hands and admit I was wrong, if, and it's a big if, Jones starts producing results. In the meantime, based on 50+ years experience of following Stoke and witnessing a run of 3 wins in 24, I'll continue to follow my suspicions that the man is a fake and out of his depth. This won't stop me following Stoke, I was at Charlton, I'll be at Wigan and Preston next week, but I'll be there in hope rather than expectation. Come on Jones, prove me wrong.
