Wonder what has gone with Bauer for Rowett and Jones to have a problem with him.

I spose its more understandable with Rowett but not so much Jones.

His defending wasnt great but I dont think anyone can objectively say Edwards would be better than him in the diamond.

Has got all the attributes Jones talks of but has fell by the way side.

It all seems rather odd, must really be a bad apple I guess

Any itks.. know anything about it?

He keeps trying to go forward and we can't be having any of that!

First few months after he joined he ran around a lot. Last season on the few occasions he was given an opportunity he looked off the pace and frankly like he couldn't give a stuff.

Fact that he was banished to train with u23's for a while under Rowett suggests 'attitude'. Which can mean a number of things - but in this instance probably means not doing what he's told to do or having the temerity to answer back. I'd hazard a guess he's come up against the same with Jones.

That said he did nothing last season to suggest we were missing out on much by his absence.

He started off looking decent under Lambert, then progressively got worse under Rowett then Jones. Either he flattered to deceive in his first season, or there’s a pattern forming. Based on recent form Edwards is a much better all round player.

We know both Lambert and Rowett became frustrated with his positioning. Not sure why Jones has decided he's not worthwhile trying to coach and improve.

It's nearly a moot point as we have Edwards and Smith but does raise the question that many of us asked why we spent 4m on Smith especially when we were burnt with the Martina transfer last year.

Well I for one did not like the amount of time he seemed to spend on social media the pre-season after we were relegated bigging himself up practically that he was our saviour in the Championship.

I remember feeling uneasy about his comments at the time.

There are many conundrums that surround our football club but Bauer has to be the strangest.
Given a lengthy new contract which was applauded by many on here only to become an outcast shunned by both Rowett and Jones.
The main criticism seems to be his positioning and yet on the other side we have McClean who often looks like he is in a daze when defending. Yet Jones believes JM ticks all the boxes and he can turn him into a wing back. Why doesn't the same apply to Bauer? He is supposedly highly intelligent so surely open to learning. Instead he was hardly given a chance.
I would suggest Bauer is more of a natural wing back even with flaws than McClean will ever be. It can only his character that Jones doesn't like. Surprised Jones's super man management skills hasn't tuned him around....or did he even bother?

We do seem to mess up a lot of players. At the moment I am trying to think of one that improved on joining Stoke City. We have always been a moaning negative bunch, rarely happy, so is it our general negativity that infects the players, plus SoT being a bit of a shit hole, cheap tacky stadium, do people sign, look around, hear the incessant whinging and think wtf have I done? I suppose the players are being well paid but it must hard to be upbeat, positive and enthusiastic when all you hear is people moaning. I'm doing it now moaning about people moaning, it is infectious, draining your energy and will.

There isn't anything he's good at apart from running quickly, we need pace but it's a biiiiig sacrafice and with the stupidity of his new contract we need him gone if just for the money, if he was on 5 - 10k a week then we'd probably have stayed with him as a cheap back up.

Like it or not, Arnie improved a lot after joining us. Bojan re-ignited his career here. Walters improved enormously under both his managers. There's plenty more.

If he was an unbeaten international who played for a top team and lived his life like a professional athlete I think we should consider it.

My main point on Bauer is that he is at least as good in his position as anyone else at the club: on recent form the same may well be true of Berahino.
