Macca will get slaughtered at left back, we have to bear in mind that this was a fairly average attacker against him today. I dread to think when some of the more capable teams come to town this year. If we don't get a left back then the manager has to answer some serious questions here. The better teams will absolutely target him. The weaker ones too. |

Didn't think he did too badly.
He's not a left back and their winger was very quick. In the circumstances his performance was okay.
He is a mediocre player, who we paid too much money for and who does not fit a diamond formation. The main problem though will always be that he is 'James McClean' and a significant section of our fanbase will simply hate him for being Irish Catholic regardless of what he does on the pitch.

I honestly couldn't care less about his political views...I can fully understand why he takes the stance he does and personally don't have a problem with it. However, he is an absolutely dreadful footballer at this level. There are players in the Conference who are better than him. |

We spent 6m on this twat 6 fuckin million.....
He was bought to play in a 433 as one of the attackers. Laughable from rowett who has set our club back years..... something a lot of our fan base can't grasp.
Jones goes on about the diamond in which the fullbacks are the focal point. We had a shining light at right back but jones decides to pay our biggest summer budget on his replacement while completely ignoring the left back position and letting our only decent LB leave to Burnley and we swop him for their 34 year old has been. And then tries to put this useless imposter there.
It's absolute fuckin madness.

Edwards has been badly done by, Smith is not an improvement and the crowd won’t take to him if he keeps the homegrown boy out. McLean is not a left back but he always gives 100% and got some decent crosses in today. He will be a scapegoat however well he plays. In an after match interview on Radio 5L Warburton commented on the abuse of Stoke players by the home crowd. Poor though we played, abuse and jeering and booing off at half time in the first home match is hardly going to motivate the team!

Sure, a very small fraction of our fanbase do not like his politics, as is probably similar with every other team he's played for, but I'd say 99% judge based on what they see before them. He's a genuinely awful footballer. He could have 'fuck the queen. I love the IRA' tattooed on his arm and it really would matter very little to me. He's just chronically bad at something he's being paid one hell of a lot of money to do. I have pointed out before on this thread that he once went 18 months without a single goal, and had literally 1 or 2 assists in that time. He's a dreadful winger, and an even worse full back. |

Just my opinion of course but this "agenda" that the overwhelming majority are bored shitless of by the way, has actually protected him from the absolutely disgraceful performances he has put in. When I think about the slaughterings that Cresswell, Walter's, even Delap have had who have given everything for the shirt and then this utter waster has been defended over and over because people feel he is being hard done to by his "views" is getting beyond a joke. His signing saw off Rowett and if NJ continues to persist with this crazy trial at LB it will see him off aswell. He has one piece of quality in his locker and that's getting the ball out of his feet quickly and putting the ball in the box. He needs to be replaced immediately for a specialist left back and seeing as we are no longer playing with wingers that means out of the squad. |

He missed a header that he went for with his foot for some reason, other than that he did well, they targeted him and he coped with it well or are you blaming him for the keeper showing why people wont pay our asking price. |
