The thread a week or so ago saying if we go up it will only be because of luck and a fair few liking it seems to indicate to me that some people have simply set their stall against him and won’t credit him if he achieves anything. Can you show me please? oatcakefanzine.proboards.com/thread/288600/week-return-pl-fading Might be some valid points about the higher powers...but saying if we fail it’s because he’s underqualified but if he succeeds is down to luck is extremely close minded to me.

Bar the pure luck bit he’s spot on isn’t he? It definitely won’t be luck if it works though. He’s got his plan and if it works it’s down to him. I just think it’s a ropey plan so far.

That’s caveating any success though, and if you’d flip it and say if he fails it’s not his fault and he’s unlucky it would look as ridiculous and unfair an opinion.

The rest of it though is spot on.

It's possible. Anything's possible in early July! But he did back it up at Luton (okay they were a relatively big fish there). But only fair to give him a decent chance to see IF he can walk with the walk with his team without going stupidly negative. I wasn't particularly negative towards him when he joined, he wasn't my idea of a proven manager who's got teams out of this division before and thought it was a big gamble. I've got more negative as it's gone on, his team selections and subs were as baffling as Rowett's and performances didn't get any better. The signing of Cousins to play DM and then the signing of Ward to play as his mobile attacking Left Back have erased any positivity I had. As a person he's very difficult not to like but that's not going to get us promoted. I'd still be surprised if Ward was the regular LB. Admittedly it's starting to look like Cousins will be the DM, which is a bit unnerving on paper. He didn't advance his cause much last season, but he did walk into a difficult situation - and through all the oddness and tedium, we had the 3rd best defensive record in the division. Vokes will be much fitter (he already physically looks a lot trimmer), and hopefully Afobe and McClean will be eased out - but last season, did he have much to work with going forward? We looked to have zero goal power on paper and so it proved again and again on grass Powell may be the fulcrum we need to piece it all together?

I'm not so sure Afobe and McClean will be going anywhere unfortunately, he seems to love McClean especially which is worrying. And I'm not so certain there's any more goals in this team as there were in the team last season apart from we should have more creativity with Powell IF we can keep him fit. We definitely need a Gayle to partner Vokes, a decent CDM and a marauding left back. Still too many pieces missing in the jigsaw to pose a serious promotion challenge, it's all very workhorse mid table about it all.
