Good CV MON 50% win rate with pretty much 50/50 the other games. Excellent for Wycombe, Leicester and Celtic and built a good Villa side Also offered us Mike Sheron when at Norwich so he's ok with me. Maybe getting a bit long in the tooth now I agree, his record with Celtic and Villa in particular was very good. However, there were some discipline problems at Leicester. I was in the Algarve with some youngsters on warm weather training when Leicester City were thrown out of La Manga for indiscipline (fire extinguishers were involved I seem to recall). Staying at the centre where I was with my team was C.S.K.A. Moscow. Their discipline was impeccable. Curfew times were observed and their conduct at meal times exemplary. Incidentally their trainer had been #2 to Lev Yashin at the 1966 world cup and knew the likes of Gordon Banks and others of the successful world cup winning team. The contrast with Leicester City's behaviour could not have been starker.

He knew Gordon Banks and most of the 1966 world cup winning team and I had a good conversation with him.

When Forest played us at home under O'Neill, I thought they were bloody awful, Rotherham were like Man City compared to them. We were shocking, but managed to beat them on the day, I remember thinking I would be shit scared to be a forest player having to go into the dressing room to face Roy Keane after that performance. We were given those 3 points without much fight.

MoN had a very successful time at Celtic but he had a huge advantage from his first game in charge - the return of Henrik Larsson after his broken leg.
Larsson's presence and influence masked what was a very basic style of football, one that we are familiar with; pace down the flanks, big man up front, two holding central midfielders, huge defenders. This became more than apparent in his last season in charge which was the season after Larsson went to Barcalona - and it was a painful one. Total hoof ball. Dreadful.

He's been on the decline since he made a dreadful decision to rest players in a Villa UEFA Cup tie in Russia ahead of a Premier League game. This completely halted their momentum in 08/09 when they looked set for a top 4 finish ahead of Arsenal.
The game in question? Aston Villa 2-2 Stoke City.
Villa would go on to win just 2 out of their final 10 games of the season and finished 10 points behind Arsenal in 6th. O'Neill's never been the same since that point.

Roy Keane is certainly relaxed about it, just been in the Honey Bee in Wilmslow having a couple of beers, laughing and joking with my two lads about Stoke, saying he’s watched us more than any other team in the country over the last few years because of all the Irish players we’ve had.... Fucking hell, I actually feel sorry for the bastard in that case.

Thank God we didn't appoint him. Way past his shelf life - and bloody good luck to any club employing 'angry man' Keane as he attempts to restart his own managerial career!! Lucky miss with those two ........
