He needs the crowd behind him, if we start to get on his back his head goes and he will disappear into a game and loose his confidence and interest, he will do the unexpected and try passes that his teammates will fail to read, but we need to keep behind him.

Think if he gets his head on and stays injury free he will be an unbelievable signing. Really excited to see him I know one swallow doesn't make a summer and that, but I thought his set piece deliveries against Tranmere were superb. Corners that actually beat the first man! One swallow makes my summer 😁

Really excited to see him So do I but asking an injury prone player to stay injury free or expecting him too is an unrealistic ask. We need another # 10, a proper one not a pretender like ince and another 'winger' prospect in verlinden. Approaching a season hoping for promotion with your key player known as injury prone.... but going ahead anyway without natural competition/ back up is just daft & naive. I can see it already, 10 games into the season and we're talking on the sunday sports show about getting through to January to try and bring in another #10

They were good. I actually thought he had a below par game, passes didn't come off really. However anyone can see he's a quality player at this level. Plus he's the main man for that role.

How can the crowd get behind someone who he obviously hates? It's our duty to slag him at every opportunity.

Powell doesn't hate Stoke from my knowledge, he isn't a huge football fan in general, lots and lots of talent but not a great passion for playing. Similar to apparently the Bale situation. I dont think he cares enough personally about football to dislike or love a team but is still a great talent

Danny Rose has said similar things. My mate who played for Burnely said that at training, pros are not kicking the ball around like park players do at training they just do what they are given to do. There are clearly different types, Charlie clearly loved football 24/7 but doing it as a job may be more effective, takes the emoition out of it

I think our season could depend on him and the early signs are incredibly positive. I hope he does the business because I feel like he's one of those who needs to be loved. He could be our ticket out of this division.

I think its perfectly believable that he was scouted at a very young age as a very talented footballer who could earn significant money and he doesn't necessarily love the game. He doesn't hate the game either, he doesn't avoid training or slack off in games, he does what most of us do which is turn up, clock in, do our job professionally and then go home?

Powell is my bet for player of the season. He is capable of running the show.
This "hates us" nonsense is just that - he is being paid very well to play for us, and would not sign if he was not prepared to do so to the best of his ability.

There was an ageing pro recently, wish I could remember who it was, who said he couldn’t wait to see the back of it. Assou-Ekoto famously didn’t even knew who Spurs were playing half the time. No idea whether it’s true of Powell but it would hardly be surprising

I wonder what the new fitness regime will do for his overall fitness, injury wise?
He looks like he is another player who has lost a fair bit of weight.

Perhaps he doesn't like to talk about football during his free time which is perfectly understandable. I know one player like that... he doesn't "hate" the game but just sometimes wants take a break from it.

In my youth I was something of a talented swimmer and was swimming at national level with an eye on the commonwealth games and potentially the olympics. I however had lost interest in it a good while before eventually giving it up in 2001. I stayed with it far longer than after when interest had wained but stuck with it because I was good at it despite not enjoying it and my family had invested a lot in it. This of course in a sport that wouldn’t really pay me anything anywhere near what football would do I could imagine Powell having similar thoughts to me. Subsequently I now do a job in IT I’m also quite good at but at times have very little interest in but I do quite well from it.

I still think we will struggle to score sufficient goals this season, yes I see an improvement in our general play, but the set up & personnel thus far doesn't scream 60+ goals...

From what I’ve been told by his mates, he likes an easy life and doesn’t overly like the pressure which comes with football, which is why he enjoyed playing at Wigan so much. But he’s a very good footballer and if he wants to make the most of his career this is probably his last big chance. Let’s just hope he gets his head down, let’s his football do the talking and the fans will love him.
