4 points out of a possible 18, no goals in the last 7 hours and an FA Cup exit at home to Shrewsbury. A bad situation has got much worse, we're in Chris Kamara country. I like the guy even if, or perhaps because, he looks badly unhinged, but his much vaunted 'processes' are going to have to start working very soon or he's yet another gonna. I must admit I like the guy too. However he’s had a nightmare. It’s evident we can’t keep swapping managers. The failure is obviously upstairs. Until this changes, meddling with managerial changes is the definition of madness.

Our midfield is a god damn disaster and there’s no magic formation or tactics Jones can use to fix them Ever since Joe Allen came imho our midfield has been awful. The guy is like a clockwork mouse. Plenty of bluster but no structure. He gives away goals something chronic. A prime example being the appalling marking for the goal conceded against West Brom.

Gayle was standing in an offside position. How is Allen supposed to mark someone who is standing offside? The guy has made more tackles than any other player in the entire division. The idea that he is responsible for us giving goals away is absurd.

Maybe get in touch with Collins dictionaries and suggest they stick the stoke transfer team next to their madness entry. Pathetic they are, pathetic. They must get laughed at mercilessly at the annual "transfer team awards ceremony". We must be on a par with Leeds Utd in the early 2000's in terms of having a total bollox of a transfer plan!! All the gear and no idea is how you describe stoke in a nutshell.

Norwich won one out of their opening 6 this year, I absolutely dread to think what will happen on here if we kick off with that next year. If you’re not in for the long haul, say it because saying you are and then complaining when this clearly inadequate squad can’t suddenly reverse 3 years of decline and apathy within Jones’ first few games kind of undermines your claim.

So Rowwett comes in after doing extremely well with Derby, then comes along Jones who’s doing well albeit in a lower league with Luton but widely known as an up and coming manager and we can’t sort this shower of shit out.
Sorry but there’s a fundamental reason other than management on the playing side.
If rumours are to be believed players are scouted and then offered to the managers, I mean how on earth can we keep buying expensive players who are totally shit only to be then replaced with “shitter” players, hmm perhaps our scouts are told who to watch by a certain fat greasy fat man.
It’s a complete farce and we’re shafted for years to come with this approach, some project this is going to turn out to be Coates

The players are looking fitter.
We now have a set piece routine.
Charlie should be back on Saturday.
Slowly NJ is turning things round.

Let’s be honest it’s not jones fault he inherited the worst set of over payed players I have seen. You could av bought Bernard king in here n he wouldn’t have got a tune out of these shit players. The only thing I can blame jones for in not giving bojan a run of games in over already shit midfield oh and playing a cart horse up front.

To be fair, he wasn't exacrly getting carried away in his post-match interview with Nige. He knows there's a hell of a task ahead.
"Do you feel it's starting to click?"
"I wouldn't quite go as far as that yet. I've been here a month. In terms of performance levels, I think we're seeing a little bit more control. We're getting to grips a bit more with things now and I'm getting an understanding about the players and what they can do and what things we need to move forward. It's all an evaluation thing"

The first three comments in this thread are absolutely diabolical. All three of you need to get to grips with your disappointment. Nathan Jones has come into this club and done very well with the cards he has been dealt. The signing of Batth and Vokes is making a big difference. The glaring problems that we have stem from terrible recruitment. As if we don't have enough problems with Wimmer and others hidden away, we now have Afobe and Woods who are failing to impress. Ince flatters to deceive and McClean will run through a brick wall for you but has very little quality. This is what Jones has to work with! Get Real! That's utter tosh. How has he done well with the cards he's been dealt when performances have generally been as bad as any under Rowett and results have been worse ? Now it's all very well saying in the long term Jones will turn it round....he may,he may not, none of us have crystal balls....but up to now it's clear it's not going as he expected and as we'd hoped As I clearly stated! Come to terms with your disappointment and do your job!

He only started to get anything like a rough ride towards the end, after more than two years of wretched drubbings.

NJ has taken Luton up from the 4th tier of English football and has now landed the Stoke job,a PL club now in the Championship, who have many good players now and wealthy owners who can fund the buying of even more players.
Compare that to John Askey who has taken Macclesfield up from the 5th tier of English football, with one of the lowest budgets, and has landed the managers job at the Vale who are basically skint.
I support Nathan Jones, but some of the comments on here about about how difficult a job he has are way off the mark, look no further than John Askey to see what a really difficult job looks like.
The owners will expect Nathan to take us up next season and I think that's a reasonable target to give to him, in my opinion.

Upstairs have created the toxic atmosphere and the fans are reacting the same way any other set of fans would. Stoke fans should not be made out to be crap because they are getting frustrated as they have a very bloody good reason to be feeling like they do. I personally don't boo but I won't be deriding the guy next to me when he does.

There's zero expectation on Askey to achieve anything at the Vale whereas you've targetted Jones to get promotion a season after taking over. I'd say that makes it a toss up as to which job you should ve considering to be the easiest. I don't think there'll be an expectation on him to get us up, but both the board and supporters will be looking for significant improvement in terms of points, performances, position and every other measure. How much improvement will be dependant on the success of the transfer windows, and then we're back to the thorney question of who bears the responsibility for that.

His record so far is obviously not great, but I think he will get there. Nor was TP's after his first handful of games, we know what happened after. You're a builder with proven work and you get offered a big job to fix up and restore a run down house that's fallen into disrepair, lazy squatters have been in and wrecked it, pipes leaking, it's structurally unsound and draining money. How daft if someone demands why it's not yet totally restored after a few weeks, when you're still trying to clean the trash out and fix the underlying structural issues before the big restoration can be completed. Sack the builder and get another? Or realise these things take more than a couple of weeks. Thank goodness we didn't sack Pulis after his woeful start!

All he did was subject them to three years of his 'style' of football before leaving them where he found them, dropping like a stone and doomed but with less paying supporters.

Yeah despite my deep reservations about the quality of this squad which I've had since day 1, I totally refute that this is the best we could possibly hope for. That all concerned (including Jones) shouldn't be doing a fair bit better. That a minute level of improvement of Wigan should now form some sort of long walk to respectability. It's an absurd view, unless you buy into the view that we are actually as basket case as Sunderland and others.

Football today is about money and Stoke have very rich owners, owners who can easily fund a promotion now from the Championship. In that sense any manager who the club appoints wll be expected to deliver promotion quickly in my opinion.
The current players are capable of delivering a much higher league postion than 17th, the fact that they are not much higher is partly down to Rowett and Jones, in fact had Nathan made a reasonable start we might have had an outside chance of the play offs.
Regarding Askey, he will first have to prevent relegation and then my guess would be that next season the club and fans would expect him to get close to the play offs, without so much as a penny to spend!
