Such sad news absolutely devastated,Gordon was a gentleman of the highest order and a legend for both Stoke City & England,I have many many mereriores of this wonderful gentleman be it watching from the football terraces or at the training ground down at Lilleshall in Clayton and also at the NSRI we both had the same eye consultant and as a young 12yr I looked forward to my visits at the hospital as there was a good chance Gordon would be there too he always came over to have a chat with me which really helped me to get through those visits.
Sincere condolences to all of Gordon's family and loved ones.
Rest in peace Gordon Banks, a gentleman, a legend, my boyhood hero.

Such sad news, I started to watch Stoke in 1955 and feel so so privileged to have regularly watched the greatest goalkeeper the world has ever seen.

My first footballing hero. I met and chatted with him just the once and was amazed at how modest and unassuming he was.

Nobody had a bad experience of Banksy, it seems. Tomorrow is going to be an emotional evening.
If I can divert people's attention to the below. Basically, the idea is an audio 'book of remembrance', with people sharing their personal memories of the great man. Posting in here as I know not everyone's on Twitter and want to get as many people as possible to share their anecdotes, tributes, etc. if they wish to do so.
The one and only time I met him, he was - as has been said so often today - a true gentleman. He recounted stories of '72 with that smile beaming across his face. A giant.

As a kid, I won 2 tickets in a competition from The Sentinel to Banksy's testimonial game v Man Utd.
I had to describe his best moment as a keeper, and of course'that save' was the moment I described.
The great Eusebio played for us, ( and scored too I believe).
I gave one ticket to my kid brother, ( they were for the Butler Street Stand), and I sold the other.
I, of course, had to stand on the Boothen End.
It was a horrible night of torrential rain, and we both got soaked on the way home, but the privilege of being there that night will stay with me for ever.
My hero. R.I.P.

Legend isn`t a big enough word to describe him. I got his autograph at a bonfire party just before his accident when I was 8. I`ve still got it.
A very sad day for us all. My thoughts are with his wife and family RIP.

Today we have lost a great man.
I hope Gordon's family and loved-ones can take some condolence from such an unprecidented outpouring of affection, not only from this forum or Stoke City FC, but from the whole footballing community right across the world.
I was so very blessed to have enjoyed lunch with Gordon just after he had visited Russia for the 2018 World Cup Draw. We were all so very proud that he had worn his Stoke City tie for the event and he had the biggest beaming smile I can ever remember when he realised that we had all noticed it on TV !
His stories of football, fellow players and wonderful anecdotes of his experiences will live with me forever.
Gordon Banks, a hero who could fly....... I'm so grateful to have met my very own hero, a true legend, a true gentleman, Rest-in-Peace Banksy and thanks for the wonderful memories.

Banksy, Jackie Marsh, Smithy, Bluto and Pej with Mike Bernard as DM. That was one hell of a defensive unit. I saw that wonder save Banksy made from Francis Lee at Maine Road. Always thought it was even better than his save from Pelé. A real gentleman and hero. My sincere condolences to all of his family.

Never watched him as he was well before my time. But had the pleasure of meeting him at a charity event a couple of years ago. Talked about playing for Stoke and England with immense pride.
You didn’t need to watch him play, just hearing the man talk was enough to make you love him. He felt the same way about our club as we do, and this was obvious in everything he did.
RIP Gordon, a hero to all.

Another one who was too young to see you play unfortunately, I've watched highlights religiously though. Every single person who speaks of you refers to how much of a gentleman you are. I'm sure I'm not the only who agrees you're one of the reasons I'm so proud to be a Stoke fan, may you rest in peace Sir Gordon Banks.
