It is - but I keep asking myself that if we assume Moyes, Allardyce and Jokanovic ruled themselves out (and I think we've got to), who the hell would have ticked the box we're looking for. Monk maybe? You're straight into Huge Punt territory, aren't you? Martin O'Neill? Monk? Lee Johnson? McInnes? Carvalhal? Potter? Cowley? Pearson? Bould? And from that standpoint, I'm pretty comfortable with it. We probably should have left it until the Summer and gone for one of our A or B choices then. Give it to Delap to tick over until the end of the season. We're not going up or down. It's a nothing season now. Luton fans are saying we need to be patient and give this guy at least 18 months. Does that sound like Stoke fans to you? If it doesn't go well over the first 6 months, he'll be hounded out. Would you not include kenny Jackett on that list?

What was your opinion when Norwich and Huddersfield employed their current bosses? I’ll bet you laughed ( we all did ) at Southampton when they sacked Atkins and employed that Pochettino bloke whose only achievements was relegating Espanyol Give him a chance mate The same people moaning about taking the risk are the same who will be moaning 2 years down the line if he went somewhere else and achieved. The club can't win at times. If he is the man, yes he's a risk. He could come in and we could end up in League One. He could come in and we could end up in the play offs or runaway champions next year playing a great brand of football. Just imagine if he takes us up playing good football? Imagine the pride when we are talked about in a positive light, rather than half compliments laced with accusations of murdering football matches. I have no idea how this will work out, but I'm a very interested 'onlooker' I don't think you can blame people for having reservations really can you. On the one hand it's a bold and an exciting dip into the unknown with a young, ambitious, attacking coach. On the other it's the cheap option with someone who may very well be overwhelmed by the job and will be bullied by our recruitment processes and the internal dick swinging of our discredited executives. Where's your money?

Always strikes me as a troubleshooter to keep teams up apart from his hey day when Bolton were a top 8 side.

The bloke got 8 out of 753 votes on the poll. I doubt anybody had ever heard of him 24 hours ago. We're now up in arms that he's the saviour of our club and the mess we're in at the moment. I'm not sure how all that computes. Must admit I never heard of him myself up until about 12 hours ago. I was told straight that Moyes was the number 1 target so I’d kind of switched off from it and expected a Moyes announcement thursday, however it seems the club have thrown a curveball and we’ve got Jones. Only thing I’ll say is that I was over the moon with Rowett and the staff he brought in and could genuinely see us pissing the league..... that shows exactly what I know. One thing this bloke needs is possibly two windows to sort the squad out and out his stamp on things, I just hope he is given time to do it, but what it needs more is everyone get behind the bloke. He seems passionate, gets his team scoring goals, plays good football and has an edge which I like.

The more I think about this Nathan Jones link, the weirder it seems. Not a 'Diana Ross and Bob Ross duetting Unchained Melody whilst riding a kayak on the Mississippi' kind of weird. But just regular weird, y'know? It is - but I keep asking myself that if we assume Moyes, Allardyce and Jokanovic ruled themselves out (and I think we've got to), who the hell would have ticked the box we're looking for. Monk maybe? You're straight into Huge Punt territory, aren't you? Martin O'Neill? Monk? Lee Johnson? McInnes? Carvalhal? Potter? Cowley? Pearson? Bould? And from that standpoint, I'm pretty comfortable with it. Like you say, every option's a gamble, and I've totally warmed to the idea that he could be our next manager. I think it's 'weird' because of what we (assume to) know about the club. Yes, he's British, but other than that, what other of the usual boxes does he tick? Experienced? No. Pragmatic? No. Dealt with egos? No. Has an air of quiet confidence? No. Older than the hills? No. He's a batshit Welshman who has an attacking philosophy and a 'screw everyone else' attitude. This could be superb or an absolute car crash; at least with some others on that list you kinda know what you're going to get.

The choice is A) Manager with a record of failure at this and higher levels B) Young manager with record of success at lower levels C) Someone who won't accept the job.
Now we have tried options A and C several times without success so option B is the only one.

He’s got a free hit until the end of the season, he’s got a chance to bring in a couple of his own and clear out a bit more deadwood.
His squad at Luton seems to be quite young, which I think is a positive, hopefully he can bring in some lower league gems that can be a huge asset to the squad.
His average age of the squad at Luton was 25.1, another bonus. If we can play some good stuff in the next half of the season and push towards the play offs then it will stand is in a good position for the summer and next season.
We can’t expect play offs this season, and this is no fault of Nathan Jones, let’s get behind him like the Luton fans have and hopefully we will profit from our gamble.

I can’t help but feel this is a mistake and complete misjudgment of the current situations we find ourselves in at the moment. I don’t doubt for one second that Nathan Jones is an excellent manager, the Luton fans absolutely adore him. But the chap hasn’t got no experience at this level. I feel we need a manager with at least 10 years of experience, we need to turn the ship around first, this is a rebuild job. With that, I support the appointment of David Moyes. If Jones does get the job I’ll back him 100%, this could be a make or break decision for the club for he foreseeable future, let’s hope they get it right.

I have a fair few misgivings, and I'm someone who wanted a progressive, football-playing manager in the summer as well. It might just be the jitters of the unknown more than anything, and once I've read up on him for the inevitable fanzine profile I'll feel better. However, this is what's worrying me...
Timing - there's no bedding in time whatsoever. He's never managed at this level before (indeed he's only got five months' experience as a League One manager) and he'll be thrown in at the deep end with no time to survey the scene a bit and assess his squad. The board insist promotion is the aim, so there's not even the sense of a 'project'. The pressure, which ate the last bloke alive pretty much, will be on from the off.
The squad is even more of an unbalanced mess than it was in the summer - there's precious little pace or creativity, we're in dire need of a centre half and some kind of left back cover, we have a new £13m striker who doesn't obviously fit in anywhere and lots of the same kind of central midfielder. There's also the question of coming in and imposing a fairly radically different system and playing style slap bang in the middle of the season.
There seems to be an element still of 'show us yer medals' about this squad, which still contains some of the biggest 'names' in the division irrespective of actual performance. A new bloke will need to have a pretty strong personality and real gravitas to win them over in short order, especially given his lack of experience at this level.
I like a lot of what I've read on him so far (even taking into account that weirdly chippy interview) but it's very soon for him and I just wonder if it's a case of right man, wrong time.
Again, could be just a jittery freak out about the unknown, but...

Thinking about it logically, if any of the bigger names (moyes, Big sam etc) wanted the job they probably could have had it in the summer when we were a much more attractive proposition, so why would they take it now when we're in mid table and way off the play off positions ? it makes sense that the only options left are going to be ones which most fans would see as a side step from Rowett.

From very limited evidence granted, I'd say if certain people at the club think they are getting a patsy that they can push around then they will be in for a bit of a shock. He doesn't strike me as a shrinking violet.

He’s on his way out of League 1 without our help so I don’t see why he’d relegate us No he's not. Portsmouth are going up and Sunderland will move in the 2nd automatic spot when they avoid defeat in their game in hand. He'll have a punchers chance in the play-offs. It's a laughable appointment if we make it. A semi-literate, born again, God botherer from League's 3 and 4, taking on a club who spent the last 10 years in the Premier League. If we do hire him I can't see any happy end to it. What makes him semi-literate exactly? His Welsh accent?

I'd be happy with Jones,Swansea took a risk with Potter, instead of going for the usual merry go round managers, they ain't doing too badly, better than us at the moment anyway. He seems the sort who sends fans home happy, having seen their team attack and try and win games.
After all isn't that the opposite of Rowett and what we Stoke fans were crying out for?

Theres very little pressure on him tbh. Most think we aren't gonna go up that betting shop has sailed so do your work until the end of the season, of we do go on a run then Brill well done NJ. If a big name came in stoke would be massively under the spotlight again as to whether the big name can turn this group around.
I think it may be a blessing to have a lesser known manager than a circus yet again.

If you want a manager with at least 10 years experience he will have either been sacked for failure several times or he will not come to a mid-table championship club, face it Klopp would not leave Liverpool for us.

If we did pursue Moyes and get knocked back, looks like this is the 4th time we've come up short with him in 15 months - and each time we've tried we've been less attractive than the previous time. I think we've got to deduce it isn't going to happen. Same with Big Sam. I'll be surprised if he ever works in the Champo again. If he works again, it'll be Prem. If not, he'll retire. And Jokanovic obviously wants something sexier/more southern. We're into the type of managers that aren't going to please everyone now. This is probably just what a Championship managerial appointment looks like. I feel more positive about this than the crazy Lambert appointment.

No allegedly about it Dave. I posted it up this afternoon. Jones was there between 2000 and 2005 and Cartwright was there 00-01. Jones also signed Harry Isted at Luton, an ex Stoke youth goalkeeper. I'm even more convinced that this will end in complete disaster than I was previously on that basis. The man who has no say in player acquisitions now has the key influence in our choice of manager. You couldn't make it up I think that I would give some credit to people who have the acumen to acquire great wealth. Surely, they tend to have some capability when it comes to make the final decision as to whether or not a meal could be suspect or unacceptable, when served up by the chef.

Where's your money? Yeah there’s risk, no doubt about it, but the club has played it safe for far to long, gone for the steady eddy, tried and tested approach, the merry go round manager. We have been the antithesis of bold and innovative and in the end been overtaken by clubs like Watford, Bournemouth ad even Brighton (for the moment at least). Being bold is long overdue as long as the risks are understood, Jones would have to spectacularly fail to take us down this season so perhaps it the right time to gamble. We certainly can’t keep on stagnating. Whatever we do it’s a risk.
