A man who had already taken a much smaller club than us to the Championship playoffs where they lost narrowly to Man City. Pulis had done nothing more than Jones has before he joined Stoke. Maybe a few more court cases... He'd turned us down for Bristol City as well. And been on the dole for over a year.

Totally unbiased of course he's only his mate, he didn't give a definite answer to the question either. Danny mills said Jack shit. Your constant negativity is boring. Well take a run and jump because I've had to listen from game 1 of this season to Whinge moan & crying stokies in self pitty. I can assure you that was pretty boring. Well you all have your wish now. No patience at all.. I just hope This jones is all he is cracked up to be... Even the Roy of the rovers doesn't write this kind of appointment

No he's not. Portsmouth are going up and Sunderland will move in the 2nd automatic spot when they avoid defeat in their game in hand. He'll have a punchers chance in the play-offs. It's a laughable appointment if we make it. A semi-literate, born again, God botherer from League's 3 and 4, taking on a club who spent the last 10 years in the Premier League. If we do hire him I can't see any happy end to it. I'm all for hating god, but even I don't think being religious affects your football management skills. It makes me think he is some sort of nutter!

Does Cartwright have some sort of Rasputinesque hold over our board?

One thing Jones has going for him - he doesn't have a tough act to follow! Just being vaguely likeable, getting his team to play in a vaguely attacking style and not dissing half of the squad and most of the fanbase would be a huge improvement!

No allegedly about it Dave. I posted it up this afternoon. Jones was there between 2000 and 2005 and Cartwright was there 00-01. Jones also signed Harry Isted at Luton, an ex Stoke youth goalkeeper. Win win then. Jones does well, we're all happy. Messes it up, it's open season on Carto! With the recent rumours of him leaving Dave, coupled with how businessmen work, I wouldn't be surprised if this is last chance saloon for Cartwright and he is being encouraged quite fiercely to make it work, especially given the fractious relationship with a manager that one would assume wasn't his choice.

Every man and his dog said 100% Bojan and Shaquiri would never join Stoke in a million years so it's all cloak and dagger stuff but if Jokanovic says he wants a return to football, loves the English game and is ready but turned us down is worrying.

Other than that I am all for this fresh start and full of optimism.

Someone who claims to be in the know suggests that if Jones arrives, the man with the biggest influence in bringing him here will be Cartwright. Allegedly together at Brighton and big mates. New man buys into chain of command and processes at club. Now there's a surprise! No allegedly about it Dave. I posted it up this afternoon. Jones was there between 2000 and 2005 and Cartwright was there 00-01. Jones also signed Harry Isted at Luton, an ex Stoke youth goalkeeper. I'm even more convinced that this will end in complete disaster than I was previously on that basis. The man who has no say in player acquisitions now has the key influence in our choice of manager. You couldn't make it up

Last year we were a premiership club, sorry but it's a tin pot appointment whether we have had it rough or not for the past 3 years with dire football. A club of our stature should have the likes of jokanovic banging the door down. He turned us down it seems. If you ask someone if he is interested in a job and he says he's not ready to come back into football management - is that construed as 'Turning us down'? The club may not have got past the first question? The previous poster on about a 'club of our stature' - delusions of grandeur methinks to have managers banging doors down!

Exactly, if we appoint nathan Jones and God forbid it's a clanger of an appointment the board will get both barrels from the fans. If Jones is a better personality than rowett and it cant be that hard I dont think the criticism will be aimed at him this time as we will say it's a job too big for him. The blame will lie at the door of the board, free hit for him. Rowett's downfall was turning on the fans and chucking his players under the bus, if he was a people person I think we would have put up with his football for longer than 8 months.
