Seems odd timing with Cartwright going mid season Sounds like Scholes has thrown him under the bus to deflect from himself Not outrageous for them to work side by side is it?

Jones will have no time - the pressure is on. The first day of training has the potential to be like the scene in the Damned United where Cloughie turns up at Leeds for his first training session. He won't need a very big bin if he asks our lot to chuck their medals in it!

An ode to our current season
The season began and our hopes were high But as it progressed they started to die The Board said promotion was the main aim But we watched as it faded game after game
Every week we witnessed the same old story As Stoke messed up their chance of glory Game after game we watched them fade And the fans rightly voiced a tirade
Rowett just stood there not knowing what to do And it soon became clear he hadn't got a clue The fans sang "Gary Rowett your football is sh*t" But he didn't seem bothered, not even one bit
Against Bolton, Brum and Bristol, he showed not the slightest toss But he arrogantly persisted with his mind numbing dross The chanting increased and became extremely loud And it was clear it was coming from all of the crowd
The fans wanted him gone it was very, very clear The Chairman finally woke up and said "What's that I hear" ? Jon just sat there with his head in his hands And Scholes just tried to hide at the back of the stands
The decision was made, and Rowett was to be sacked And Jon had to tell him "Get your bags packed" Rowett left very quietly amidst all the commotion And the fans just wanted somebody who could get them promotion
The search was started, but who would it be Allardyce, Moyes, Jokanavic to name just three The media were throwing lots of names in the hat But the Board made ther decision after a lengthy chat
A left field appointment, Nathan Jones was his name Who had got Luton Town playing a great game Attacking football (remember that ?) and plenty of goals Which just left the deal down to Tony Scholes
"Don't mess this up" Peter Coates said Or the fans really will be after your head "No worries boss, you can leave it to me" As Scholesy tucked into a large pizza for tea
The deal was finally done, Nathan Jones was the man Which left only one other to carry the can He'd hidden, he'd ducked, but in the end it was alright As the axe finally fell on Mark Cartwright
So Nathan's arrived, and he's saying all the right things And we're all keen to see what the future now brings Hopefully lots of goals and wins and plenty of smiles That will see Stoke City fans follow them for miles
Promotion this season might just be out of our reach but Nathan is confident that the tactics he'll teach will make our team attractive and they'll soon thrive and our return to the Premier will shortly arrive !

It's interesting timing re. Carto.
'My sources' saw Cartwright heavily involved last night at CW with John Coates and Scholes, till quite late.
If he was on the verge of leaving, I doubt he would be there and in the thick of it.

Yep, all those trophies we've won. All that criticism we've received off him in the national press. It's positively identical.

Could this new fella simply be a Chief Scout? I assume Cruickshank left when Hughes did and Rowett's taken his with him as well.

You’ve written some bullshit on this message board over the years March, but that’s pretty special even by your standards. I really hope for your own sake that this is more of your trolling. As for anyone who actually agrees with you...

I’m prepared to be more lenient with Jones than Rowett. Rowett has been in this division for years and had arguably at the start of the season the best squad and best budget in the league, and systematically cocked it right up whilst also having a dig at the fans and ostracising popular players for no apparent reason. Jones is inheriting a shitshow and I’m hoping he can see what we all see and steadily drain the unwanted silage out of the exit door. It’s about time we took a risk on an up and coming manager. Very very big of you.

Certain posters can't wait for him to fail. It's so sad,you know who you are Certainly not true of me.. who wouldn't take successful attacking football? .. There are genuine question marks though, lots of them. however i think it's fair to say people were waiting for Rowett to fall flat on his face though from day 1

Well, I'll hold my hands up and say I know very little about Nathan Jones. I've obviously, like our players, been cocooned in my Premiership bubble for too long! I was of the opinion that we needed some big character with a reputation to sort this all out.I don't know why though, I feel warmer to Jones than I ever did to Rowett, who, again without having really paid too much attention to his career thus gave me that feeling that it wouldn't work out and that he wasn't the man for the job. I still fear that we may have some amongst our squad who would only respond to somebody they'd at least vaguely heard of Still, as I said, call it a feeling in me waters, if Jones is our man I feel we may just be on to something. Patience will be required though by us all.We all really need to get behind the team now. Rowett, it seems, just never even warmed to us or us to him. Wrong fit? We'll see. Let's hope we don't screw anything up in trying to get 'our man'!

Extremely interesting article from the Times here, unfortunately you'll need a Times subscription to read it but if you've got one (or want to pay the £3) it's certainly worth a read. Jones comes from a working class background and his self belief cannot be questioned. I won't copy and paste the whole thing or Dave will kill me but here's a little piece from it. www.thetimes.co.uk/article/something-has-got-to-be-guiding-you-in-a-7-0-win-for-me-it-is-god-8n3923q9v?shareToken=ab6fe9df17b021294e5fb843b031ccee"We’ve worked tirelessly,” Jones, 44, says. “We don’t just do five-a-sides and hope things happen. This has been a year and a half in the making, evaluating the club, improving every transfer window.” He “wouldn’t want to say that we’re the Barcelona of League Two”, but there is a philosophy of “quick, fast, attacking football. Winning football.” "I've said I want to be the best manager in the world and to a certain extent it’s tongue-in-cheek, but it also isn’t,” he says. “It sets the bar so you never stop working. I would like to manage Barcelona, to do what Terry Venables and Sir Bobby Robson did. And, if you set the mark that high, then until you do it, you’ll strive to get there. “In all probability, I may never be the best, but I’ll work at it until every opportunity is exhausted. That’s what I mean. But I believe we leave no stone unturned. We feel the work we do is top-end. And I genuinely want to manage Barcelona. If I can’t do that, then I want the top team in the Premier League. If I can’t do that, what’s next?”

As with any new appointment of a manager, Jones is certainly a gamble, non of us saw this coming, this message board was full of Moyes and Big Sam. However, Jones looks to be here now and the biggest thing we can do to give the club a much needed boost, is to get behind him and the team. Only time will tell if this was the right choice.
