You can't expect him to come to a new club in a division he doesn't know, part way through a transfer window, identify the problems, the possible remedies and the players needed and start the process all before the end of the month I don't expect instant success, far from it, but many of our fans clearly do expect this. I'd have given Rowett until the end of the season as an absolute minimum, preferably a minimum of 2 years. I wasn't impressed with him but felt it was far too early to judge. The same goes for Jones, my point is he absolutely needs to be given time, he'll get an extra 6 months to prepare that Rowett never had, but come this time next year - if we're not looking good for promotion then people (top 6 - and not miles away from the top 2) then people will inevitably be on his back. I think, based on results and performances, he would have had until the end of the season, but the relationship he created with the fans did for him early.

If it is this chap coming in, he has a massive job on his hands with the squad he inherits. There are still a few who need moving on, and a few not good enough IMHO. Good luck to him though! Yep, we need to write this season off and regardless of results get behind him and get behind the team. Let the players know it was the manager we wanted gone. Let's hope they rise to the challenge and we see an upturn!!

You'd suspect the new bloke meant to be coming in is Steve Rowley as others have suggested. Domino's Pizza postpone staff cuts!

Weird thing is with Rowett we started off pretty attacking and he shit himself, while it was frustrating, if he carried on with that style of football and gradually tightening up the defence he may have had more time.

Whilst it is a nice idea, I'm not sure what people are getting at with this 'give him time' notion. Frankly, it's nothing to do with us as fans.
As with any business or corporation, the board will give the manager a set goal. The expectation will be set from the board and progress against this target will be measured at intervals. As much as we think the fans falling out with Rowett was a factor in his demise, the board were probably onto too aware how poor results were against the £40m spent and the promotion expectation. They have acted accordingly.
With respect of Hughes - the target was probably 'more of the same please, Mark.' With no expectation against him, they made the error of not acting.
Of course, the board may well take a new approach with Jones and give him more time against their longer term objectives but this needs to made clear to the fans.

From Wikipedia:- 'Jones is a devout Christian who credits his faith with getting him through bad times. "It keeps you grounded. There's a lot of temptations, a lot of pitfalls nowadays, especially for a sportsman – and I think through God's guidance I've been able to steer clear of them. Through the hard times I've always had the stability of the Lord in my life and my family background has kept me on the straight and narrow." ' His faith will be sorely tested here 😉

Very good manager and has certainly impressed in league one. Luton have some quality players too for league one who could make the step up to the championship, so you should sign them. Can you do it quick though? We’re playing Luton on Saturday. Cheers! Is it right you had 17'000 last night? Any crowd trouble? Yeah, including nearly 3,000 Newcastle fans. Minimal trouble, a few arrests but not a lot.

I've written it further up, but this guy is going to need 18 months to get us playing as a cohesive team.
After listening to interviews etc, it sounds like he's very heavy on making sure he has the right characters in the squad.
It's going to take time for him to get the team to where he wants it, playing how he wants, with the right characters he wants.
We may sign players we're initially underwhelmed with but they fit his ethos, but we have to back this guy unwaveringly - and believe in his vision. Given the chance, I think we can build a team rather than a set of individuals as we look now.
The board have to back this guy, they've shown huge balls IMO to offer Jones the job, a relative unknown - they now need to allow him to build and fulfil his vision.
But please Stokies, for the love of god - lets get behind this guy LONG TERM!!

This is the turning point for me, this has to be the right appointment and we have taken a massive gamble. In 5 years time we'll look back at this appointment as pivotal which ever way it goes

Jones will have no time - the pressure is on.
The first day of training has the potential to be like the scene in the Damned United where Cloughie turns up at Leeds for his first training session.

Does that mean we'll sign shit defenders Seeing as how Rowley was with Arsene for the first ten years of his managership, then he seems to have been a success given the players Arsenal had during that time. Some of those defenders have legend status even outside Arsenal. Maybe we need someone of that calibre to understand how we have been shortchanged over the years in the scouting department?

Jones will have no time - the pressure is on. The first day of training has the potential to be like the scene in the Damned United where Cloughie turns up at Leeds for his first training session. Apart from the fact Leeds were the most successful team at that point and players and fans adored Don Revie and then Cloughie came in and basically told them all there hard work previously was false. Nothing similar whatsoever.

We have to give him time, and if fans can see a genuine attempt to play football- and it looks like there is actually a plan going forward then i'm sure he will get it.
One thing is for certain- We NEED a new centre half or two. It is literally impossible to play attacking football from the back with Shawcross and Williams

All this talk of giving him time is just crazy. We don't have time. We're going to lose parachute payments soon. My heart tells me there’s still a chance of promotion this season, my head says differently. It will be interesting if Jones comes in (a) who his backroom staff will be and (b) will there be a significant reorganisation behind the scenes to support him. Theres no doubt this will be a significant period for the club. Possibly a robust assault on the Championship next season is the best we can hope for......unless the owners have a different view and are more impatient

I’m prepared to be more lenient with Jones than Rowett.
Rowett has been in this division for years and had arguably at the start of the season the best squad and best budget in the league, and systematically cocked it right up whilst also having a dig at the fans and ostracising popular players for no apparent reason.
Jones is inheriting a shitshow and I’m hoping he can see what we all see and steadily drain the unwanted silage out of the exit door.
It’s about time we took a risk on an up and coming manager.
